EL-KOMY, Samia Mobarez","doi":"10.21608/avmj.2025.358556.1574","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.21608/avmj.2025.358556.1574","url":null,"abstract":"The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of adding varying amounts of lycopene (100, 200 and 400) mg/kg to broiler's diets contaminated with aflatoxin B1 (300 µg/kg) on growth and physiological performance. In a completely randomized design, three hundred unsexed, one-day-old Ross chicks were split into five treatments, each with six replicates (10 chicks per duplicate). All diets were created to meet the according to Ross Guide. Broilers were given unlimited access to feed and water. The results showed that adding lycopene to diets tainted with aflatoxin B1 significantly improved growth and cellular blood parameters, without negatively affecting the birds' health. Additionally, the results showed that lycopene supplementation decreased serum levels of low-density lipoproteins, triglycerides, cholesterol, and uric acid or creatinine in birds fed mycotoxin-contaminated diets. Moreover, increased high-density lipoprotein levels, which are thought to be a reliable predictor of blood lipid readings. The addition of lycopene enhanced the functions of the liver enzymes ALT and AST, as well as the concentrations of glucose, total protein, globulin, albumin, and antioxidant activities. The aflatoxin B1 residue in the liver and meat tissues of broiler chickens was also decreased. Therefore, this study was designed to investigate Yucca shidigera (YS) extract nanoemulsion efficacy in the prevention and treatment of coccidiosis in broilers. YS extract 5% was formulated as nanoemulsion (YSN) and then characterized by using zeta sizer and zeta potential. Six groups of 35 chicks/group, one-day-old each, were categorized as negative control, positive control, 2 treatment groups of YS and YSN, and 2 prophylaxis groups of YS and YSN. The treatment groups were administered YS and YSN at day 6 post-infection, while the prophylaxis groups received YS and YSN 5 days before infection. The YS and YSN doses were 100 mg/L in water. All groups except the control negative were orally infected with about 25 × 103 Eimeria tenella sporulated oocysts per chick at day 23 of the chicks' age. Both treatment and prophylaxis groups revealed a significant decrease in oocyst count, rapid recovery from the disease, and better body weight gain than the infected untreated group. The blood chemistry and hemograms in the treatment and prophylaxis groups showed no significant difference from the control infected untreated group. The pathological pictures showed a lower number of parasitic stages in the cecal tissue in the treated groups, compared to the control-infected untreated chicks. In conclusion, YS and YSN mitigate the pathogenicity of E. tenella through a reduction in the oocyst count and improve body weight gain. Despite the acknowledgment of religious factors in food-related policies, limited research has explored their specific influence on food expenditure and security. Using longitudinal data from the Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS) covering 2007 and 2014, this study analyzes food expenditure and food security levels among Muslim households, employing the Propensity Score Matching (PSM) model. The analysis includes variables such as age, education, marital status, employment, and gender. Findings reveal that religiosity negatively influences food expenditure, both in total and per capita, suggesting that religious households tend to spend less on food. Moreover, Muslim households demonstrate higher levels of food security, often reporting moderate or adequate food security, compared to non-religious households. This indicates a potential protective effect of religiosity on food stability. The study recommends integrating financial education programs that emphasize frugality and mindful consumption.
