Radioactive sources are used to obtain ionization of the air surrounding the tip of the air terminals. Ionization due to field amplification by the geometrical shape is included. All the tests are performed on a comparison basis in which an enhanced air terminal is compared directly with a nonenhanced air terminal of the same geometry, or against a standard rod (Franklin air terminal). The test results indicate a substantial, superiority for the enhanced air terminal. Zone of protection is also defined, and is based on an electrogeometric model, including enhanced flexible dynamic length.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":327874,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record Industrial and Commercial Power Systems Technical Conference 1993","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-05-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114600090","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The new standard has distortion limits for power producers. The table has been expanded to list three entries for maximum individual harmonic voltage distortion based on the bus voltage at the point of common coupling. Current distortion limits are given. The table lists twenty-five entries for maximum individual current distortion and five entries for total demand distortion. These distortion limits are based on the short circuit current at the point of common coupling and the maximum demand load current. An analysis of a power system evaluated using the 1981 standard is made based on the proposed standard.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":327874,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record Industrial and Commercial Power Systems Technical Conference 1993","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-05-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129985499","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on a suitable normalization, the dominant parameters determine that the current harmonics are the line and DC side reactances, respectively, and the DC voltage. This forms the basis for a systematic comparison of the accuracy of analytical formulas, describing the commutation or the DC ripple effect only. Using these results, the validity ranges of different approximation formulas can be estimated and the most important question answered concerning the proof of the conventional assumption of a 'sufficiently' smoothed DC current. In order to predetermine line current harmonics as easily as possible, the most effective formula can be obtained from corresponding decision areas. The allowable error is restricted to 2% of the fundamental, confirmed by comparing the results of digital simulation studies.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":327874,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record Industrial and Commercial Power Systems Technical Conference 1993","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-05-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122134197","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The 'characteristic' current method, by replacing the impedance of each equipment with the corresponding value of the 'characteristic' current, permits the application of the impedance properties to the inverse of the current values, either in meshed or nonmeshed networks. In order to achieve the correct design, rating and protection coordination of the whole power system, it is necessary to know and calculate step by step the values of short circuit current for each system component, from the utility or local generating connection point until the branch-circuits and the utilization equipments. The proposed approach assumes the above mentioned short-circuit current directly as calculation and comparison parameters. With the 'characteristic' currents as parameters the short-circuit analysis of substantial radial systems is made easier and a better matching of power system design requirements is permitted.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":327874,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record Industrial and Commercial Power Systems Technical Conference 1993","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-05-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130241979","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This method is applicable to any type of load considered as a harmonic source. A system involving a hardware interface, a PC, and advanced software to measure, analyze, and report the condition of harmonics on the power system is described. This system is used to generate all the necessary harmonic currents for compensation. Digital simulation and experimental results from single- and three-phase AC/DC converters are shown to verify the effectiveness of this technique.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":327874,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record Industrial and Commercial Power Systems Technical Conference 1993","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-05-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117105141","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An analysis of indiscriminate bonding of metal objects to the lightning protection system produced a new section on treatment of metal bodies. The use of a ground loop interconnecting all ground media has been added as a requirement for structures over 60 ft. in height. These changes help greatly in application of lightning protection systems to modern structures.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":327874,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record Industrial and Commercial Power Systems Technical Conference 1993","volume":"104 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-05-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117184988","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Adopting the criteria of loss of load probability (LOLP), the sizes of PV peak power and energy storage of the system are calculated in two steps. An initial provisional calculation is made, followed by a simulation of the most critical conditions, as a sequence of days with a minimum level of irradiation calculated probabilistically.
