Objectives: To investigate potentials of variable doses of Neurokinin B on histomorphology of testicular tissue and serum testosterone levels in adult rabbits. Material and Methods: This Laboratory based experimental study was conducted at Gomal Centre of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Gomal University, Dera Ismail Khan, Pakistan from June-2019 to June-2020. Adult male New Zealand white rabbits (n=18) with an average weight of 1.52kg were randomly assigned to three groups. Study animals were administered subcutaneously with Neurokinin B in two variable doses: 1 µg and 1 çg. Control rabbits were injected with distilled water. After 12 days of continuous peptide treatment, animals (n=06) in each group were sacrificed. Testicular tissues were dissected and processed for light microscopy. Blood collection was performed directly from left ventricle, serum was separated and assayed for testosterone by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay.Results: Neurokinin B did not alter the body weight of experimental rabbits as compared to control. No significant change on testicular weight, testicular volume and gonadosomatic index was observed at any dose of Neurokinin B. Seminiferous tubular diameter (µm) increased non-significantly while seminiferous epithelial height (µm) increased significantly in high dose group as compared to control group. Serum testosterone concentration increased significantly (P?0.01) at both low (1çg) and high (1µg) doses of Neurokinin B as compared to control.Conclusion: Continuous administration of Neurokinin B effect positively on serum testosterone and testicular morphology.Keywords: Histomorphology, Neurokinin B, Tachykinins, Testes, Testosterone","PeriodicalId":326561,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Saidu Medical College, Swat","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140257512","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Looking back through this period, i grade it a pleasant experience. When I joined the team of JSMC, the journal was passing through its childhood to adulthood period. The hard work of registering it with Provincial Information Department and having the International Standard Serial Number (ISSN) number, already done as well as provisional recognition with Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC) was also accomplished. Yet a lot was still ahead and required as is usual with the scientific journals. I would like to appreciate the hard work of the pioneers and the struggle and commitment of the present team members, whose commitment has nurtured this young sibling to a fruitful tree. This journal is now indexed and registered with different national agencies like, Higher Education Commission, Pakistan category 'Y', College of Physician & Surgeon of Pakistan, Pakistan Scientific & Technological Information Centre, PakMediNet.com, and also has gained recognition at international level like; Member of Crossref to assign Digital Object Identifier (DOI) to each article, Following Creative Commons license for international acceptability, giving internationally recognized reviewer credits via Reviewer Credits.com, member of Eastern Mediterranean Association of Medical Editors (EMAME) and Index Medicus Eastern Mediterranean Region (IMEMR).","PeriodicalId":326561,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Saidu Medical College, Swat","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140257084","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Identifying the factors affecting birth outcome in eclamptic patients allows for targeted interventions to enhance maternal and fetal well-being.Objectives: To identify the risk factors that adversely affect birth outcomes among women with eclampsia.Material and Methods: This Cross-Sectional Descriptive study was conducted at Gynae Unit in Mardan Medical Complex, Mardan, from 1st January to 31st Dec 2018. A total of 157 antenatal patients who presented with eclampsia and live fetuses were enrolled for the study through non probability sampling technique. The data on their demographic variables, gestational age at presentation, mode of delivery, and birth outcome were recorded.The logistic regression model was used to investigate the dependence of birth outcome on maternal age, gestational age, mode of delivery, Parity and Booking Status. Results: Our analyses indicate that maternal age, mode of delivery, and parity significantly affect the birth outcome in women suffering from eclampsia. These three factors had a significantly negative impact on the birth outcome as their estimates are less than 1 at 5% level of significance indicating the probability of live birth decreases for the Normal Vaginal Delivery, Parity (multigravida), and advanced maternal age.Conclusion: Increased maternal age, normal vaginal delivery and multiparity increased the probability of still births in patients with eclampsia. Knowledge of genotypes prevalent in any region is important in effective measles surveillance; by mapping distribution of prevalent MV genotypes at different points of time, in a region, gives an idea about the success of measles control through vaccination programs, by documenting the interruption of transmission of the endemic viral genotype. Objectives: To detect genotypes of wild type measles virus isolated from the samples collected of measles patients in Peshawar valley of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province, Pakistan.Material and Methods: This was a cross-sectional descriptive study. Nasopharyngeal and/or throat swab samples were collected during a measles outbreak, from February to March 2014, from clinically diagnosed measles patients (cases who met the clinical case definition of WHO). Collection and processing were done according to the standard protocols. RNA (Ribo-Nucleic Acid) was extracted directly from samples; cDNA (Complimentary Deoxy-Ribonucleic Acid) was synthesized, amplification and sequencing of 528bp of carboxy-terminal of N gene was carried out. Sequences were analyzed and data were compared with the standard reference strains of measles virus.Results: A total of nine sequences obtained were of good quality and enough in length to meet WHO criteria for genotype assignment. It was found that all the nine strains of measles virus belonged to clade B, genotype B3 and cluster B3.1. The rest of the 13 sequences which were shorter in length for genotype assignment also showed close resemblance to Genotype B3.Conclusion: Wild type measles virus strains, isolated from the samples of measles patients, in Peshawar valley of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan were found to be genotype B3.
