African American women have higher mortality rates from cervical cancer compared to non-Hispanic white women [2]. There have been several interventions and prevention strategies implemented to educate women about cervical cancer. In previous studies, theater use has been used to address health disparities, increase knowledge, and has found significant increases in pro-social related health behaviors i.e., screening, treatment, vaccines [3]. The current study sought to evaluate the use of theater and a health educate panel as an intervention to increase knowledge, awareness, and pro-social health behaviors related to cervical cancer among participants in the surrounding communities. A standard pre/post-test design identified 101 participants in the ethno-drama experience about cervical cancer. The results of the data indicated that the ethno-drama intervention was effective in increasing cervical cancer health related behaviors.","PeriodicalId":326171,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Cervical Cancer Research","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132498390","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In 2012, the global incidence rate exceeded 500,000, and the worldwide mortality rate was estimated to be 266,000. It affects women at younger ages compared to other types of tumors and thus has a tragic impact on their lives. The burden of the disease is higher in developing countries, particularly in Africa, where the prevalence rate is the highest. The mortality rate is also higher in developing countries compared to developed countries. The geographical variation that is depicted in the prevalence of cervical cancer is associated with differences in the provision of health services, in particular, screening services, which are important for early detection. In addition, the prevalence of the human papillomavirus (HPV), which is the most common cause of cervical cancer, and the utilization of the HPV vaccine differ between regions, and thus contribute further to the variation.","PeriodicalId":326171,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Cervical Cancer Research","volume":"94 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131705294","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
