The measurement of residual tensile force of ground anchor has been conventionally carried out by lift-off testing, however the development of a simple alternative tension measuring method is required in terms of cost and time. In this study, we have been continuously developing the application of a digital hammering technology using an acoustic emission sensor, which has been practically used as an anchor bolt inspection in nuclear power plants, etc. to the estimation of the tensile force of ground anchors. This paper shows our approach to evaluate and verify the applicability of the technology and to find out remaining tasks based on laboratory testing, finite element method (FEM) analyses and field inspection results in order to try to estimate the tensile force of ground anchor with the screw type anchorage device.","PeriodicalId":326143,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Japan Society of Civil Engineers, Ser. Tateyama","doi":"10.2208/jscejge.75.454","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.2208/jscejge.75.454","url":null,"abstract":"The authors have proposed a new fracture grouting method, which can increase densities of liquefiable ground and increase liquefaction resistance by injecting leaf vein shape grout. Since this method can im-prove liquefiable ground effectively with low grouting ratio (approximately 10% in volume ratio), widely spreading liquefiable ground can be improved economically within a short period. This paper describes results of experimental studies following brief explanation about a concept of the propose method. At first, 4 cases of trial grouting tests were conducted to validate feasibility of the proposed grouting method using a large-scale soil stratum pit. As a results, it was confirmed that leaf vein shape grout could be injected in loose saturated sand ground by a dynamic grouting method, of which specifications were adequately set. Furthermore, increase in density of the improved ground could be evaluated by some soil investigations conducted before and after grouting, such as the standard penetration test, the in-situ seepage test, the PS logging and so on. Finally, a series of shaking table tests were conducted to confirm effect of the proposed method against soil liquefaction during earthquakes. The test results clarified that the loose liquefiable sand ground could be effectively improved by the proposed method and could show almost the same liquefaction resistance with that of the dense sand ground, which was ideally compacted to have the same density as-sumed in the improved ground.","PeriodicalId":326143,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Japan Society of Civil Engineers, Ser. That is, the safe construction of an embankment can be achieved by combining a vacuum consolidation method and embankment loading. The stabilizing effect of vacuum consolidation methods has been verified through many construction examples, and it has been reported that measuring or pre-dicting the pore pressure through on-site numerical analyses and experiments is important to evaluating the stabilization of the ground. In this study, centrifuge model experiments and numerical analyses focusing on the mechanical behavior around the drain in a soft ground were conducted to investigate the effect of both the period preceding vacuum consolidation before the embankment construction and the embankment speed on the pore water pressure. As a result, the relationship between the preliminary period of vacuum consolidation and the embankment speed, which can suppress the increase in pore water pressure due to embankment loading and has a stabilizing effect on the ground, was clarified.
