Rate adaptive optimization is investigated with minimum rate requirement and in presence of co-channel interference. A low-complexity subcarrier allocation scheme is proposed. A particular procedure provides limitation of co-channel interference by dynamically adapting the subcarrier reuse factor. A rate requirement violation (RRV) threshold is introduced to decide whether or not the interference limitation procedure is to be used. The performance is evaluated for variant user's rate requirement. The evaluation includes comparison of the cell global rate and the outage probability with existing heuristics","PeriodicalId":325797,"journal":{"name":"2006 IEEE 17th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"101 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115545006","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

When this technique is applied to ad hoc networks, it is a key issue to design distributed and power-efficient relay selection strategies. In this paper, we propose the power-aware relay selection (PARS) strategies to maximize the network lifetime. The PARS strategies are composed of the optimal power allocation(OPA) and three power-aware selection criteria. The OPA aims at minimizing the overall transmit power, while the three criteria select the relay that best help extend the network lifetime, based on both the OPA results and the residual power levels of the nodes. We combine our strategies with the opportunistic relay model, which is based on a 802.11b-like media access control (MRC) protocol, so the selection process can be done in a totally distributed way. Simulation results show that the proposed strategies have great improvement in both network lifetime and power efficiency","PeriodicalId":325797,"journal":{"name":"2006 IEEE 17th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115762562","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Conflicting requirements between simplicity of implementation and accuracy in reproducing the radio channel are presented, and the resulting modeling choices are discussed. The channel models have been derived by combining a spatial channel model with several different antenna arrangements that are envisioned to be typical for the systems in question. These antenna arrangements include both spatial separation of elements and polarization. The channel models are supplied as tapped delay lines with correlation parameters for simulating full MIMO channels of size up to 4times4","PeriodicalId":325797,"journal":{"name":"2006 IEEE 17th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124288659","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The imposed variational optimization framework provides an interesting link between the a posteriori probability (APP) based demodulators and the linear SISO equalizers, enabling us to gain new insight into the optimality of these equalizers in the context of turbo processing. Outage probability is a system-level metric that lacks key information with regards to outage performance within the lifetime of a particular session. Analysis based on the satisfied-user criteria has been recently recommended by Universal Mobile Telecommunication Systems (UMTS) where the outage percentage for each individual session is computed for a more genuine estimate of system capacity. In this paper, the session outage performance is modeled as an alternating renewal process with exponential holding times (ARP/E). Estimation of satisfied-user probability resolves to derivation of the total downtime (bad-time) percentage of an ARP/E. An exact formula for the satisfied-user probability is derived for speech services. The ARP/E analysis developed for speech is also employed as an approximation for the satisfied-user probability of WWW browsing users","PeriodicalId":325797,"journal":{"name":"2006 IEEE 17th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"288 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117291257","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
