Japan has taken a valid control over the Senkaku Islands since 1895. Yet, in the light of historical records, China claims the islands as a part of its ancient territory. This article aims to analyze Japan’s motives in taking repetitive peaceful measure in handling the Senkaku/Diaoyu Islands dispute. Most of existing academic writing about China-Japan discord put emphasize on the findings related to mutual aid and regime, strategy and policy, power projection and threat perception, and interaction of complex relationship. Few, if any, scrutinize Japan’s concern to take non-violent way to face China in the Senkaku/Dioayu dispute. By applying harmony-concept-invoked-approach of conflict management, this article goes for cultural philosophy and national interests as motives behind Japan’s repetitive peaceful measure in the Senkaku/Diaoyu dispute. This article shows that the Japan’s non-violent measure is induced by her value of traditional culture along with economy factor and national security.","PeriodicalId":32472,"journal":{"name":"Global Jurnal Politik Internasional","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49160863","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Some of existing studies on the topic illustrate from the point of view of securitization, that illegal immigrant issues has been securitized and requires the intervention of the Australian army through Operations Sovereign Borders. However, in the context of the 2013 Australian Federal Elections, these earlier studies have not explained the objectives of securitization resulting in an assertive policy in the handling of illegal immigrants. By employing the strands of securitization concept, this paper explains what objectives the securitizing actor wants to achieve from the securitization of illegal immigrant issues in Australia. The findings of this paper indicate that the securitization was aimed at raising the issue of illegal immigrants on the national security agenda due to the emergence of this issue and to gain legitimacy of extraordinary measures to eliminate the threat possesed by illegal immigrants.","PeriodicalId":32472,"journal":{"name":"Global Jurnal Politik Internasional","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43472090","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the years immediately following the handover, it was generally thought that this was working quite well. In recent years, however, tensions have arisen within the “One Country, Two Systems” model, most notably including the 2014 Umbrella Movement, the imprisonment of student protesters and various notable incidents like the disappearance of five book publishers. This article aims to uncover how consistent the EU is in promoting democratic norms in its relations with the HKSAR. Using discourse analysis of relevant EU documents, the article explores two things. Firstly, to investigate whether these tensions lead to potential (in)consistencies between what the EU says and how it in fact acts regarding disputes between Hong Kong and China. Secondly, since a large part of EU discourse stresses the promotion of values and norms such as democracy, this article analyses the consistency of this discourse.","PeriodicalId":32472,"journal":{"name":"Global Jurnal Politik Internasional","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42316274","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Kedua negara sama-sama menonjol dalam produk budaya populernya, termasuk dalam hal industri hiburan. Dengan semakin terlibatnya aktor-aktor non-negara dalam Hubungan Internasional, para aktor dalam industri hiburan Jepang dan Korea Selatan mendapatkan peran tersendiri sebagai pelaku diplomasi publik yang bertujuan untuk mengubah perspektif publik dari masyarakat yang menjadi negara tujuannya. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa ketenaran industri hiburan kedua negara berhasil memunculkan kelompok-kelompok penggemar yang memiliki pandangan positif terhadap masing-masing negara sebagai hasil dari konsumsi produk industri hiburan yang telah mengglobal. Akan tetapi, globalisasi industri hiburan yang dilakukan oleh kedua negara tidak selalu memunculkan reaksi yang positif dari publik negara lawannya. Sebaliknya, globalisasi industri hiburan beserta aktor-aktor non-negara yang terlibat didalamnya terkadang seakan menjadi alat untuk meningkatkan ketegangan politik serta persaingan kedua negara hingga meningkatkan sentimen negatif yang telah ada di kalangan masyarakat.","PeriodicalId":32472,"journal":{"name":"Global Jurnal Politik Internasional","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46904199","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article explores the development of the concept of territory in International Relations. By seeing the development of the concept of territory in International Relations, I could see the main arguments regarding territory. For example, I could understand the argument behind the jargon of “borderless world” or “return of geography”. In order to fully explain the development of the concept of territory in International Relations, I divide my research into five parts. First, I would describe the beginning of territory itself; how a neutral geographical space turned into political geographical space. Second, I would talk about the implication of politicization of the geographical space itself, geopolitics. Third, I would describe the critics of the concept of territory and also geopolitics. This will be joined by the fourth part about the respond the critics of the concept of territory and geopolitics. Lastly, I would talk about the non-territorial political community as alternative to traditional territorial-based state. This article then concludes that the definition of territory itself needs to be broadened, as non-spatial space is now a territory, such as the Great Firewall of China. Ultimately, I hope to show the current discussion of territory in international relations study and what could be discussed more in this rarely talked concept in international relations.","PeriodicalId":32472,"journal":{"name":"Global Jurnal Politik Internasional","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46308130","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In general, the effort to eradicate human trafficking in Indonesia has been focusing too much on enforcing criminal law and restricting immigration instead of protecting and preventing the victim of trafficking. In order to explain why it happened, this paper will use Amitav Acharya’s theory on norm localization which provides a framework to assume that the norm of human trafficking eradication in Indonesia has been appropriated by certain contradicting value. By using the theory, this paper finds that the norm of human trafficking eradication promoted by Palermo Protocol is directly against patriarchal culture, thus the culture has an interest to localize the norm. This paper concludes that the localization of human trafficking eradication norm by patriarchal culture in Indonesia has removed the value of human security in favor of state security.","PeriodicalId":32472,"journal":{"name":"Global Jurnal Politik Internasional","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47283987","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hamas menembakkan sejumlah roket dan mortir ke wilayah-wilayah strategis di Israel yang kemudian disambut oleh Israel dengan peluncuran Operation Protective Edge sebagai manifestasi serangan balasan terhadap Hamas. Penggunaan kekuatan militer oleh kedua pihak menyebabkan kerusakan kolateral yang sangat besar, khususnya di Jalur Gaza. Operation Protective Edge dianggap banyak kalangan melanggar Hukum Humaniter Internasional dan tidak mengindahkan prinsip-prinisip dalam Just War. Dengan melandaskan analisis pada pemeriksaan yang menyeluruh terhadap prinsip Just War, tulisan ini akan menjelaskan mengapa Israel dapat menjustifikasi pelanggaran terhadap Hukum Humaniter Internasional dalam Operation Protective Edge. Tulisan ini berargumen bahwa faktor-faktor berikut memperkuat justifikasi Israel: 1. Kekuatan argumen hak atas self-defense; 2. Penggambaran Operation Protective Edge sebagai operasi militer yang proporsional; 3. Pandangan bahwasanya perang yang terjadi antara Israel-Hamas merupakan konflik asimetris; 4. One of his most prominent thesis is the existence of international anarchy, in which he calls the third image, makes a perpetual state if war in the inter-state relations. This essay does not examine whether his thesis is valid, instead it tries to problematize the use of Jean--Jacques Rousseau’s texts as the foundation in creating the third image perspective. I argue that Waltz misinterpretation on some of Rousseau’s texts makes his thesis on international anarchy and constant state of war do not align with Rousseau’s philosophical thoughts, despite the utilization of Rousseau’s text as the foundation of the thesis. I use the Hermeneutics methods to provide an alternative interpretation of Rousseau’s works and criticize Waltz’s interpretation of them.","PeriodicalId":32472,"journal":{"name":"Global Jurnal Politik Internasional","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47767469","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using a feminist lens in International Relations, this paper attempts to unpack the seemingly neutral character of forced migration governance. Supported by examples from the Asia Pacific region, this paper finds that the nature offorced migration governance is highly gendered. This can be seen from how states portray andtake actions towards refugees within ASEAN and the Bali Process, as these are the two maininstitutions governing forced migration in the region. This governance is gendered through: (1) the feminization of refugee portrayal by states’ security-focused approach, and (2) the reinforcement of states’ perceptions as the masculinist protectors translated into the securitization of migration. While this understanding seems to add more complexity to the issue, it further suggests that this state- and security-centric paradigm can be reconstructed by a rapprochement between feminist and International Relations scholars.","PeriodicalId":32472,"journal":{"name":"Global Jurnal Politik Internasional","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44649906","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, International Relations is in the process of reconceptualising its approaches and moving away from state-centrism so that it may better address the challenges of a transnationalising world. Examining the concept of multiple citizenship provides an opportunity to expand IR research agendas and transnationalise IR theory. Employing a multidisciplinary literature review, this article identifies the possible ways through which investigating multiple citizenship can contribute in advancing the discipline’s theorisations. Firstly, it contends that an analytical focus on multiple citizenship enriches IR theory by re-examining concepts which have not been adequately questioned in traditional IR and enabling deterritorialisation of the sovereign nation-state, de-conflation of the nation from the state, and reconsideration of the relationship between citizens and nation-states. Secondly, multiple citizenship can serve a base for considerations about globalisation and the future of the nation-state; it can also be used to obtain glimpses into issues, which may affect larger portions of the global population in the future. This article concludes by arguing for more serious probe to the concept of multiple citizenship in IR.","PeriodicalId":32472,"journal":{"name":"Global Jurnal Politik Internasional","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46946066","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
