In particular, this work focuses in the optimization of the TDMA region. By taking into account both the cyclostationary noise and the cyclic variations of the channel response, the optimal time slot duration in a multi-user scenario is determined for various amounts of overhead required by the PHY layer. This method has been recently proposed by the authors and illustrated over a channel model. Since there are today several incompatible technologies in the market and no available standard, it is expected that these different technologies will continue to be deployed for some time thus giving rise to the necessity of adopting coexistence mechanisms, i.e. mechanisms allowing non-interoperable devices to efficiently share channel resources. This problem has seldom been addressed in the literature and the goal of this contribution is to fill this gap. A simple coexistence mechanism is here presented and its performances assessed via simulations. We investigate how different decoding algorithms, which are applied on LDPC codes, affect the system's performance. Therefore, an iterative belief propagation decoding algorithm as well as a proposed variation of the original bit flipping algorithm are exploited. In addition, a hybrid technique combining these two algorithms is proposed. Irregular LDPC codes of various code rates are studied. Specifically, the cases of 1/2, 1/3, 2/3, 3/4 and 4/5 code rates are investigated. Regarding the irregular LDPC codes, they are constructed in a Quasi-Cyclic form. The system's performance is expressed in terms of the resultant Bit Error Rate (BER) versus the Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR). In order to design the power line communications channel, Middleton's class A noise model is used to account for the system's background and impulsive noise, while Zimmermann's channel model is also used. The OFDM transmission technique is taken into account. In this paper, a centralized Quality of Service architecture for PLC access networks based on a QoS Broker is proposed. This architecture will allow for better managing of the QoS in the PLC domain and it should facilitate the interoperability with other technology domains. Many studies show that, compared to the single carrier modulation scheme, the OFDM not only fights against the channel time dispersion, but also helps to mitigate the noxious effects of such kind of noise. The OFDM/OQAM is an alternative multicarrier scheme that exhibits a higher theoretical spectral efficiency than OFDM with cyclic prefix (CP-OFDM) and may furthermore, be well-localized in time and frequency. In this paper, an investigation of the OFDM/OQAM performance in impulsive environment is done. The influence of the prototype filter and the number of carriers on the bit error rate (BER) performance is analyzed. The results are compared to those obtained with the OFDM scheme. Application of a cyclic prefix in it enables efficient and simple equalization in a multipath fading environment. However, the OFDM has also poor spectral characteristic which can decrease its performance in the impulsive noise scenario. As a remedy for this a Discrete Wavelet Multitone (DWMT), known also as Wavelet-OFDM, has been proposed as a promising alternative for many applications. Unfortunately, difficulties with equalization have been a significant problem limiting its usage in telecommunication systems. Therefore, in this paper, we evaluate a performance of a Circular Discrete Wavelet Multitone (CDWMT), which is a circular version of the standard DWMT modulation, in indoor Power Line Communications (PLC) scenario.
