In the present paper we address a different concept: multiple finite-length packets are to be transmitted over a noisy block-fading channel, and the goal is to maximize the number of correctly decoded packets. Specifically, we consider the case of transmission of two messages over a block-fading erasure channel to gain fundamental insights. We consider three different coding strategies and derive analytically the probabilities of error for constructions based on random codes and maximum distance separable (MDS) codes.","PeriodicalId":320391,"journal":{"name":"2012 Australian Communications Theory Workshop (AusCTW)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-03-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121109101","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore the active speakers in each speech segment are unknown. However, identifying the voice activity (VA) of the speakers of interest is required for adaptive beamforming techniques such as minimum variance distortionless response beamforming and the adaptive blocking beamforming (AB). Considering two speakers, this paper addresses a voice activity classification (VAC) problem that focuses on identifying the active speaker(s) in each speech segment. The proposed method is based on a new concept, the beamformer-output-ratio (BOR). This value is calculated from the outputs of two different beamformers steering at two speakers. The first part of the paper introduces the definition of BOR, the VAC method using BOR and simulation results. The simulations are based on real recordings and show a high classification accuracy. In the second part of the paper, the theoretical results of the BOR of the delay-and-sum (DS) beamforming are presented, including BOR formula derived in different environments and its behaviour in relation to parameter errors.","PeriodicalId":320391,"journal":{"name":"2012 Australian Communications Theory Workshop (AusCTW)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-03-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125014941","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The original crypto-system is designed to achieve perfect secrecy under PU'. The resulting system also achieves perfect secrecy regardless of the source distribution. Finally the mismatch in the system resources are calculated when the actual source distribution is known. The number of channel uses remains unchanged at the value for which the system is designed. Upper and lower bounds for the expected key consumption are derived.","PeriodicalId":320391,"journal":{"name":"2012 Australian Communications Theory Workshop (AusCTW)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-03-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116118967","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most existing RF fingerprinting techniques require high sampling rates. This paper introduces a novel technique, which is effective at low sampling rates. This make RF fingerprinting more practical for resource constrained devices such as mobile transceivers. The technique is demonstrated with Bluetooth transceivers. A data acquisition system is designed to capture the Bluetooth signals in the 2.4GHz ISM band. A Spectrogram utilizing the Short Time Fourier Transform is used to obtain the energy envelope of the instantaneous transient signal and unique features are extracted from the envelope. The technique adopted for identification of the Bluetooth transmitters has shown promising results as compared to the reported techniques in the literature and have accurately classified the Bluetooth transmitters at low sampling rates.","PeriodicalId":320391,"journal":{"name":"2012 Australian Communications Theory Workshop (AusCTW)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-03-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129170788","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, we investigate the impact of CQ on the bit error rates of the Golden code and the Silver code with M-QAM constellations. We assume infinite-precision operations at the receiver. Towards generating the matrix codewords, we find the minimum number of bits needed to represent and perform the arithmetic operations such that the finite-precision versions of these codes provide BER close to their infinite-precision counterparts. We show that the Golden code and the Silver code suffer very slight degradation in the BER performance so long as at least 7-bits and 6-bits are used for 4-QAM constellations, respectively. Also, both codes are shown to need a minimum of 8-bits for 16-QAM constellation. Finally, we propose an example of a full-rate, full-diversity STBC which can be encoded with as low as 3-bits for 4-QAM constellation. The advantages of the proposed code are also discussed.","PeriodicalId":320391,"journal":{"name":"2012 Australian Communications Theory Workshop (AusCTW)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-03-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133860153","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we extend the original tractable model for downlink heterogeneous cellular network to the scenario with directional antennas, from which the coverage probability (or equivalently outage probability) for a randomly located mobile user in this network can be derived. By using this tractable model, the impact of implementing directional antenna for certain heterogeneous tiers can be demonstrated and utilized as a deployment guideline.","PeriodicalId":320391,"journal":{"name":"2012 Australian Communications Theory Workshop (AusCTW)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-03-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133902218","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although DS-SS inherently can cope with low power narrowband and wideband obstacles by its near 43-dB processing gain, it cannot cope with high power obstacles. The approaches of system performances that can be further enhanced by preprocessing to reject the intentional or unintentional jamming will be investigated in this paper. A recurrent neural network (RNN) predictor for the GPS anti-jamming applications will be proposed. The adaptive RNN predictor is utilized to accurately predict the narrowband waveform based on an unscented Kalman filter (UKF)-based algorithm. The UKF is adopted to achieve better performance in terms of convergence rate and quality of solution. Two types of narrowband interference, i.e. continuous wave interference (CWI) and auto regressive interference (ARI), are considered to emulate realistic circumstances. The signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is varied from -20 to -5 dB. The anti-jamming performances are evaluated via extensive simulation by computing mean squared prediction error (MSPE) and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) improvements.","PeriodicalId":320391,"journal":{"name":"2012 Australian Communications Theory Workshop (AusCTW)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-03-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129840778","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this scheme, relay selection is performed in a similar fashion to switch-and-examine combining (SEC) considering the source-relay channel signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) in conjunction with threshold-based relaying. In particular, the same relay remain selected as long as its SNR is above a predefined threshold; should this condition be violated, the remaining relays are tested against the threshold in a predefined order. This testing process is repeated until either an acceptable relay is found or no relay is left to be examined. In the latter case none of the relay is chosen for communication. On the other hand, if an acceptable relay is identified, the switch-and-examine process is interrupted and the identified relay assists the source-destination communication working as an amplify-and-forward (AF) relay. Lower bounds for the outage probability and symbol error rate (SER) are derived assuming Rayleigh multi-path fading channels. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed DSEC-T scheme achieves the same diversity order as the partial relay selection (PRS) where the best relay is selected based on source-relay SNR for earch transmission.","PeriodicalId":320391,"journal":{"name":"2012 Australian Communications Theory Workshop (AusCTW)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-03-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123923932","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It maps the network topology to a trellis diagram of a convolutional code. In the trellis, the branch metric is the inverse of the instantaneous SNR of the corresponding channel. Consequently, the path metric, which is the accumulated branch metrics along the path, is equal to the inverse of the equivalent SNR of the path. Information on the most recent w (window size) hops of the network is stored and a relay is selected on the first hop within the window. Simulation results confirm that the proposed routing algorithm can achieve near optimal outage performance with a large enough truncation window size. The proposed routing algorithm has a polynomial complexity and low communication overhead. Therefore, it is very efficient for relay networks with a large number of hops.","PeriodicalId":320391,"journal":{"name":"2012 Australian Communications Theory Workshop (AusCTW)","volume":"79 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-03-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124495401","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
