We demonstrate that the frame completion ratio (CR) does not represent well the QoP of an MPEG video. The transmission media between the data concentrator and its associated home energy controllers (HEC) are based on either a power line carrier (PLC) or a low power wireless channel for improved reliability. To install such a system, we propose a channel reliability estimation method for selecting the appropriate transmission channel. Lens distortion coefficient is estimated via simplified camera calibration, after which image warping with inverse spatial mapping adapted for a DSP architecture is applied. However, any data loss in the JPEG 2000 bitstream affects the consequent bitplanes and even possibly destroys the whole picture. We propose a new algorithm to recover the damaged bitplane data according to the interested directional pattern in the subband. For a large reduction in the time needed to access the desired video shots, a new system for retrieving the specific shots has been built utilizing on-line motion detection with DSP. Specific video shots can be retrieved at a reduced processing time by using DSP because a series of Y signal image frames and motion vectors are generated on-line by newly utilizing the DSP applications.
