On the other hand, the computational complexity of the optimum multiuser detector grows exponentially with the number of users. There has been a lot of interest in suboptimal multiuser detectors with less complexity and reasonable performance. In this paper we apply the classic and new modified genetic algorithms for multiuser detection of DS/CDMA signals. It is shown that the classic genetic algorithm (GA) reaches an error floor at high signal to noise ratios while the proposed method has higher performance than the classic one and is comparable to the optimum single user detector with much less complexity than the optimum multiuser detector.","PeriodicalId":318292,"journal":{"name":"12th IEEE International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications. We propose and evaluate the performance of a new interference adaptive DCA (IA-DCA) algorithm that is suitably designed for a network implementing FH. The results we show in the paper have been achieved by means of a simulation tool which takes propagation, mobility, interference, traffic and channel allocation into account. Moreover, the advantages of using FH are accounted for by using suitable analytical models that give the frame error rate as a function of the carrier-to-interference ratio and the number of hopping frequencies. We compare the performance of our proposal to that of fixed channel allocation (FCA) with and without FH, and the well known IA-DCA schemes investigated in the literature in the absence of FH. The performance results show that interesting synergic effects can be obtained in terms of forced termination and user satisfaction probability by using both DCA and FH in a F-TDMA based mobile radio network.","PeriodicalId":318292,"journal":{"name":"12th IEEE International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications. Different from previous work, we explicitly consider the multipath effect. Therefore multiple constraints are incorporated into the optimization problem to mitigate multipath distortions. The algorithm will work well if constraint parameters are properly pre-selected. However, the detector's performance highly depends on the constraints. Thus we jointly update the detector and the constraint vector by minimizing the Godard's cost function with respect to both the detector and the constraint vector. It is shown that under certain conditions in the absence of noise, the algorithm guarantees global convergence. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the results.","PeriodicalId":318292,"journal":{"name":"12th IEEE International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications. The residues are mapped into a set of orthogonal sequences and are transmitted in parallel. To increase the data rate further, a modified residue representation scheme is used with significantly lesser number of orthogonal sequences. A multicarrier modulation scheme is used for both transmission and reception of residue channels. The issues involved in the design of an enhanced RNS based MC-CDMA architecture is discussed and the performance of the system is evaluated in a frequency selective Rayleigh fading channel via extensive simulations.","PeriodicalId":318292,"journal":{"name":"12th IEEE International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications. Little attention was paid to the performance of the end-to-end TCP connection. We study the route breakages caused by mobility and their effects on the performance in different TCP implementations (e.g. Tahoe, Reno, NewReno and Sack). Our performance simulation shows that current TCP implementations can not guarantee a stable performance because they are impossible to distinguish a packet loss caused by congestion or by route breakage. A new metric, weighted route length is introduced in the comparison of TCP performance in the mobile ad hoc network. We demonstrate that TCP Sack generally performs better than Reno, NewReno and Tahoe. The effects of interactions among routing, MAC and TCP protocol are also discussed. This paper presents the simulation results of four TCP implementations and provides comparisons based on some important performance metrics (throughput, goodput, transfer time) and multimedia QoS measurement (average packet delay).","PeriodicalId":318292,"journal":{"name":"12th IEEE International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications. To enhance OFDM's performance, many architectures utilize channel coding. The addition of coding, adds both redundancy and frequency diversity, but comes at a cost of reduced overall throughput (typically by a factor of 2). This paper introduces a novel carrier interferometry phase coding to enhance the performance in OFDM systems without bandwidth expansion or decreased throughput. It is shown that at a bit error rate of 10/sup 3/, this method gains 14 dB over OFDM, equaling the performance of COFDM. A system is now available demonstrating the benefits of coded OFDM, which maintains the throughput of OFDM. The cost is one of increased receiver complexity.","PeriodicalId":318292,"journal":{"name":"12th IEEE International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications. PIMRC 2001. To this extent, two different multiple access protocols are proposed for such an environment, based on the ISMA and DSA++ approaches, and they are complemented by a polling mechanism that allows a reduction in the access time. A scheduling algorithm is also considered in order to prioritise transmissions to guarantee the specific QoS requirements for the different services.","PeriodicalId":318292,"journal":{"name":"12th IEEE International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications.
