TCP being touted as the “protocol that saved the internet” due to its widely acclaimed congestion control algorithm, has started choking with the advent of challenges faced in the decentralized Multi-hop Ad Hoc Networks. Most notably, the burstiness of this congestion control mechanism has often lead to heavy link layer contentions over ad hoc networks. Such intense contentions pave way to misinterpreted route failures, frequent timeouts and unnecessary retransmissions which dramatically reduces the throughput. In this paper, we propose a cross layer transport protocol (CLTSP) to minimize the intra flow contention and also to improve the spatial reuse. CLTSP performs rate controlled transmission to prevent self-contention among data packets by spacing them out at an appropriate interval. The time interval between the deliveries of successive data packets is dynamically measured based on four hop propagation delay and an appropriate correction factor that are collected from intermediate nodes. We evaluate the performance of our protocol with TCP New Reno and show significant improvement in terms of throughput, end to end delay, Link layer collisions and control overheads.","PeriodicalId":316751,"journal":{"name":"2013 7th IEEE GCC Conference and Exhibition (GCC)","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123652151","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The antenna comprises an asymmetric T-shaped monopole as a coupling feed and a radiator as well, and a coupled-fed loop strip shorted to the ground plane. The antenna generates a wide lower band to cover (824-960 MHz) for GSM850/900 operation and a very wide upper band of larger than 1 GHz to cover the GPS/GSM1800/1900/UMTS/LTE2300/2500 operation (1565-2690 MHz). The proposed antenna provides wideband operation and exhibits great flexible behavior. The antenna is capable of providing eight-band operation for nine different sizes of PCBs, and enhance impedance matching only by varying a single element length, L. Details of proposed antenna, parameters and performance are presented and discussed in this paper.","PeriodicalId":316751,"journal":{"name":"2013 7th IEEE GCC Conference and Exhibition (GCC)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125254307","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, for a square wave inverter, the harmonics problem becomes more severe specifically, at the lower frequencies below the base speed, where the harmonics current is increased which significantly decreases the machine efficiency. Another problem with the square wave inverter at low frequency is that if volt per hertz speed control is used, it becomes difficult to control the voltage level for maintaining a constant flux operation below the base speed. Therefore, this paper designs a speed controller with a hybrid approach in which a Sine Triangle Pulse Width Modulated (SPWM) inverter is used below the base speed and a square wave inverter is employed above the base speed. The transition between the SPWM and square wave is realized in a unique way, which is by simply setting the frequency of the carrier signal equal to zero. Thus, the proposed method in a way uses only SPWM and the transition from the SPWM to square wave is accomplished in a seem-less manner. Therefore, the torque discontinuity problem which normally appears in the traditional method where there is a switching between SPWM and square wave does not occur in this proposed strategy. Computer simulation results for a V/f drive system are presented to validate the performance of the proposed algorithm.","PeriodicalId":316751,"journal":{"name":"2013 7th IEEE GCC Conference and Exhibition (GCC)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127908735","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Critical to this research process are the legibility of the documents in image form, and access to live texts. Several state-of-the-art methods and approaches have been proposed and developed to address the challenges associated with processing these manuscripts. However, there is a huge amount of data involved, and also the high cost and scarcity of human expert feedback and reference data call for the development of fundamental approaches that encompass all these aspects in an objective and tractable manner. In this paper, we propose one such approach, which is a novel framework for the computational pattern analysis of ancient manuscripts that is data-driven, multilevel, self-sustaining, and learning-based, and takes advantage of the large quantities of unprocessed data available. Unlike many approaches, which fast-forward to the processing and analysis of feature vectors, our innovative framework represents a new perspective on the task, which starts from ground zero of the problem, which is the definition of objects. In addition, it leverages the data-driven mining of relations among objects to discover hidden but persistent links between them. The problem is addressed at three main levels. At the lowest level, that of images, it tackles automatic, data-driven enhancement and restoration of document images using spatial, spectral, sparse, and graph-based representations of visual objects. At the second level, which is transliteration, directed graphical models, HMMs, Undirected Random Fields, and spatial relations models are used to extract the live text of manuscript images, which reduces dependency on human experts. Finally, at the highest level, that of network analysis of the relations among objects (from patches and words to manuscripts and writers) involves the search for `social networks' linking manuscripts. Considering this approach under the umbrella of Visual Language Processing (VLP), we hope that it will be further enriched by the research community, in the form of new insights and approaches contributed at the various levels.","PeriodicalId":316751,"journal":{"name":"2013 7th IEEE GCC Conference and Exhibition (GCC)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126884986","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The design is capable of charging small power consumption sensors by capturing ambient radio frequency (RF) waves. The technique comprises the use of high-profile monopole antenna array with a reflector in order to maximize the RF energy received by the antenna system. Furthermore, a prototype of the proposed RF energy harvesting system was built, and tested in laboratory. The proposed design is compared with a reference case that uses only a single monopole antenna element at both transmitter and receiver sides. The achieved results show better performance in terms of captured output direct current (DC) voltage in comparison to that captured energy by the reference prototype with a single antenna element. The designed system is useful in many wireless applications and can easily be integrated with other high-gain antenna systems to further maximize the harvested energy.","PeriodicalId":316751,"journal":{"name":"2013 7th IEEE GCC Conference and Exhibition (GCC)","volume":"174 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115421615","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The two systems are interconnected through the existing 220 kV double circuit transmission line between Oman and Abu Dhabi leading to a rather longitudinal structure power system. The objective of the paper is to assess the inter-area oscillation damping of this interconnected system during small amplitude disturbances by using eigenvalue analysis. A detailed model of the interconnected system is obtained including representation of generators, prime movers, speed governors, exciters, automatic voltage regulators, transmission lines, transformers, compensators and loads. The system eigenvalues are calculated at various operating scenarios, including peak and minimum loading conditions with zero and maximum power exchanges in both directions and also during N and N-1 conditions. The results have shown that both systems have adequate damping before being interconnected. After interconnection, the eigenvalues profile indicates that the system will remain stable and satisfactorily damped for the considered power exchanges.","PeriodicalId":316751,"journal":{"name":"2013 7th IEEE GCC Conference and Exhibition (GCC)","volume":"84 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125048211","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They need to be transported to feed the energy to remote cities and towns. For efficient use of energy, variable frequency drives (VFD) are used in domestic and industrial appliances. In Industrial applications such as the gas industry, capacity of driven compressors is extraordinary large and rated up to 100MW. Then, different VFD technology is required from those for general machines. This paper introduces advanced Megawatt inverter technology for extra-large compressor drive use. The description includes performance evaluation, quality control and field experiences of the extra-large inverters.
