In 2004, the village suffered significant damage due to an earthquake and ensuing tsunami, resulting in loss of life and damage to infrastructure. Despite the inherent disaster risk, Kajhu Village possesses great potential, including the scenic beauty of its coastline and the abundance of mangrove ecosystems. These natural resources can be harnessed to develop environmental and disaster-based tourism opportunities. In recognition of this potential, the Fasilitator Tangguh Bencana (FASTANA) - Tsunami and Disaster Mitigation Research Center at Universitas Syiah Kuala (TDMRC USK), an organization dedicated to community service and disaster mitigation, launched a disaster risk reduction program aimed at empowering the community and reducing the risk of disaster in Kajhu Village. Data collection involved observation and interviews with local residents. Community service activities focused on education and empowerment, including disaster preparedness education for the community and schools, promotion of the importance of protecting coastal ecosystems, and training and empowering the creative economy. Additionally, disaster literacy corners were established in schools within Kajhu Village. Through these programs, the goal was to create a community that is resilient to disaster and economically self-sufficient. By providing support and empowerment to the community, it is hoped that a new mindset can be fostered, resulting in greater independence and resilience. The disaster education provided aims to help individuals and families understand and implement effective disaster prevention strategies. The implications of the community service program in Kajhu Village are increasing community resilience and preparedness in dealing with natural disasters and developing the potential of coastal ecosystems to become sustainable ecotourism attractions, providing inspiration for communities in other areas to adopt a participatory and structured approach in an effort to increase resilience and disaster preparedness and developing the potential of coastal ecosystems.","PeriodicalId":31596,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat Indonesian Journal of Community Engagement","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46562748","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This issue is also faced by former inmates from the Sleman Class IIB Penitentiary, Yogyakarta Special Region, so several coaching in self-reliance and skills, e.g., animal husbandry, were provided in \"Kampung Asimilasi\" for inmates. However, there are problems with the animal husbandry of laying hens due to the lack of knowledge about proper management practices among correctional officers as facilitators. To address this, the \"Ayam Bahagia\" program was developed to provide correctional officers and inmates with the knowledge and practical skills they need to effectively and properly manage the raising of laying hens. The program covered the preparation, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation through a blended delivery: offline and online methods. Six correctional officers and eight inmates followed this program. A pre-test and post-test measured the increase in knowledge and practical skills. Data were analyzed using t-test. This program has resulted in a significant increase (P>0.005) in knowledge and skills related to animal husbandry. Correctional officers have been able to become facilitators for inmates with adequate ability, and inmates have been able to raise laying hens independently.","PeriodicalId":31596,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat Indonesian Journal of Community Engagement","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44207213","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In fact, there are still a significant number of residents who throw trash carelessly. Jurangjero village, a village in Klaten Regency, Central Java, is an example of a village that does not adequately manage its waste. In addition, the village has agricultural waste issues that require optimal utilization, including rice straw. This community service program aims to increase public awareness of organic and inorganic domestic waste management and agricultural waste management so that they can be applied appropriately to the concept of the green village. The program’s methods included field observations, waste management outreach, and training. The training included the creation of organic fertilizers, eco-bricks, plastic waste containers, and straw paper. Farmer groups and farmer women’s groups have gained an understanding of the management of domestic organic waste into organic fertilizer and compost as a result of the outreach and training activities. Karangtaruna has also gained an understanding of inorganic waste management by applying the recycling concept, which entails transforming plastic refuse into plastic pots and ecobricks. They have also grasped the production of economically valuable art paper from rice stalks. The descriptive analysis revealed that the average pre-test and posttest scores were 55.58 and 76.67, respectively. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that this community service program has increased residents’ knowledge of managing domestic and agricultural waste to create valuable products. The support of the village administration is required for sustainable waste management and the continuation of empowerment initiatives.","PeriodicalId":31596,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat Indonesian Journal of Community Engagement","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49571622","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This happens in all education units, including the Community Learning Centre (CLC). Community learning centre, as nonformal education unit, has flexible characteristics. Nevertheless, it still has the competitiveness to provide learning according to the needs of students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Community activities are voluntary-based, where technology uses are still partial and not optimal. For this reason, community service activities through the training aim to provide knowledge about how information, communication, and technology are used in data management and learning. This community service program approach was carried out qualitatively by conducting in-depth interviews with community samples in each district of Yogyakarta. The offline activity was attended by 20 participants from CLC in Yogyakarta City.
