The Malaysian pre-university students mentioned that they were confused by the formulas they needed to remember. The technique required them to build a card that contained the four (4) formulas of the mole concept using their creativity. Consequently, the students performed better post-intervention than in the pre-intervention phase. The paired sample t-test analysis revealed that the mean difference (24.44) between the students’ post-intervention mean (82.78; SD = 10.46) and pre-intervention mean (58.33; SD = 7.48) is significant with p < 0.001. Moreover, the target students’ post-intervention performance was significantly better than the minimum distinction mark – the difference between the post-intervention (82.78) and minimum distinction mark (70) is 12.78 with p < 0.001. The MY MAMOVONO technique positively impacted the students’ level of understanding.","PeriodicalId":314686,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Contemporary Education","volume":"21 4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114039856","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Results of composite scores, factor loadings, item-total correlations, and values of square root of Average Variance Extracted (AVE) confirmed strong reliability and validity of the scale. A Multi-Group Confirmatory Factor Analysis (MGCFA) revealed that measurement was equivalent at the level of scalar invariance across gender groups. Among three subcomponents of PASIS, latent mean score of teacher factor turned out to be higher than peer and parent factors regarding math achievement for female and male adolescents from both countries. Findings indicate that the PASIS is a reliable and valid measure to assess the perceptions of academic social influence for math learning, which can be utilized in different cultural contexts.","PeriodicalId":314686,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Contemporary Education","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123041819","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To address this gap, this study investigates 51 pre-service high school mathematics teachers. Results showed that: 1. The cognitive scope of them about intuitive imagination literacy is not extensive, more than half of the content of intuitive imagination literacy is not recognized; 2. The cognition of many pre-service teachers is not deep or comprehensive and concentrates at a lower level; 3. The cognition of many pre-service teachers for many aspects of intuitive imagination literacy is not very clear. It is suggested that: 1. experts and teachers who are responsible for educating teachers should pay more attention to intuitive imagination literacy and add relevant courses; 2. pre-service high school mathematics teachers should understand the content of intuitive imagination literacy comprehensively and deeply, and clarify relevant statements.","PeriodicalId":314686,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Contemporary Education","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123784693","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The sample for the study was made up of third-year prospective teachers studying at the Department of Science Education and Department of Elementary Mathematics Education in the 2020-2021 school year. Embedded mixed design, which is a type of mixed method, was used in the method of the study while the quantitative part of the mixed design was comprised of a one-group pretest-posttest design and the qualitative part was the case study. The implementation was carried out creating lesson plans aimed at STEM activities and process designs, and obtaining products throughout the course of one semester. Looking at the findings of this study, there were significant differences in favour of the posttest scores in all scales. Therefore, the conclusion was reached that the trainee teachers in both groups were observed to have experienced higher self-efficacy in terms of STEM practices, and that, in view of the meaningful rise in the sub-dimensions of the scales, the implementation was found to support the material design process and creativity. Examination of the qualitative data showed the codes support the changes that occurred in the quantitative data. Also, difficulties faced the trainee teachers were examined.","PeriodicalId":314686,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Contemporary Education","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129648652","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For these students, writing a composition has been a task they would prefer to avoid doing. One of many reasons is the inability to first generate and organize their ideas for writing tasks. Besides, they faced difficulty in expressing themselves fluently or being able to write sentences that are grammatically correct in the target language. Realizing the importance of writing skills among undergraduates in the tertiary education, a study was carried out on 200 undergraduates who attended a day Malaysian University English Test (MUET) workshop to examine students? writing ability through a proposed model of Transferring, Restructuring, Engaging, Negotiating and Documenting (T.R.E.N.D.). The findings had shown significant improvement in learners? writing in term of coherency and the development of ideas after the workshop. As a whole, the use of T.R.E.N.D. Model had helped to improve students? writing ability in terms of not only language proficiency, but also their level of confidence.","PeriodicalId":314686,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Contemporary Education","volume":"294 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129280784","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
