In many sectors, interoperability of new technologies has helped in solving much bigger problems on a large scale and has eventually led to widespread automation, but this automation wouldn't have been possible without openness in communication protocols. These standard protocols have evolved over time to cater to industry needs, from partial to fully automated manufacturing processes. The overall system obtained by the integration of these technologies for automated process control and management is commonly referred to as Industry 4.0. This paper discusses the protocols and technologies used in precision farming analogous to Industry 4.0. This paper also addresses the gaps to fill by exploring the technologies and standards and by proposing a unified architecture. It is hoped that addressing these gaps will help to create a solution for fully automated process control in an Agriculture 4.0 perspective and race towards more advanced Agriculture 5.0.","PeriodicalId":312808,"journal":{"name":"2019 30th Irish Signals and Systems Conference (ISSC)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133541571","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Dietary management in the areas of fat and cholesterol is seen as a dominant risk reduction strategy. It is estimated that 80% of CVD may be preventable. Cutting down on dietary fat reduces the risk of CVD. This work focuses on exploring the extent to which the fat content of different foodstuffs can be determined using a low-cost Near-Infrared (NIR) Spectrometer. Preprocessing algorithms to manipulate data have been developed, classification models of materials' chemical makeup have been constructed using a Random Forest algorithm, and vegetable fat spreads which vary in levels of fat and cholesterol have been distinguished with an accuracy of over 99%.","PeriodicalId":312808,"journal":{"name":"2019 30th Irish Signals and Systems Conference (ISSC)","volume":"112 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114444912","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Vector of Locally Aggregated Descriptors (VLAD) is one of the local features that can be used for image place recognition. VLAD describes an image by the difference of its local feature descriptors from an already computed codebook. Generally, a visual codebook is generated from k-means clustering of the descriptors. However, the dimensionality of visual features is not trivial and the computational load of sample distances in a large image dataset is challenging. In order to design an accurate image retrieval method with affordable computation expenses, we propose to use the mini-batch k-means clustering to compute VLAD descriptor(MB-VLAD). The proposed MB-VLAD technique shows advantage in retrieval accuracy in comparison with the state of the art techniques.","PeriodicalId":312808,"journal":{"name":"2019 30th Irish Signals and Systems Conference (ISSC)","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129941212","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The controllers based on the state space present good behavior and efficiency, even when the dynamics of the process are non-linear. One of the processes with non-linear dynamics and in which not all the states are observable is the case of parabolic trough solar plants. In this work an observer is presented, based on a fuzzy inference system, for the estimation of the temperature profiles of the loops that make up the solar field. This is a English translation of an earlier work presented in the XXXIX Spanish workshop in Automatic Control [15].","PeriodicalId":312808,"journal":{"name":"2019 30th Irish Signals and Systems Conference (ISSC)","volume":"151 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123399598","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These mechanisms, using blood pressure measurements from the baroreceptors, work in unison to maintain blood pressure at an acceptable value. However, it is less well known that the neural baroreflex is affected by the pulsatile nature of blood flow, which also modulates the blood pressure signal. Furthermore, the presence, or absence, of low-frequency (circa 0.1 Hz in humans) oscillations in blood pressure may be predicated on the pulsatility, or lack of pulsatility. The absence of pulsatility may be found in patients with artificial (turbine type) hearts, or with left ventricular assist devices (LVADs). This paper shows the effect of pulsatility on the neural baroreflex, and consequently on the generation of low-frequency oscillations, via simulation results.","PeriodicalId":312808,"journal":{"name":"2019 30th Irish Signals and Systems Conference (ISSC)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124487141","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Listening to audio in an acoustically treated room is the closest we can get to a perfect listening experience. Since this research concentrates on headphones, the room factor will not be influencing the listening experience. Therefore, it could be a useful tool for professionals, to have the headphones sound as linear as they can be and to find out analytically, if they are preferred with the implemented filter sets over their default response. This study will also look to move in the direction of establishing a standard that can be used as reference for measuring headphone performance.","PeriodicalId":312808,"journal":{"name":"2019 30th Irish Signals and Systems Conference (ISSC)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126408686","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The nematic liquid crystal is used to obtain the frequency shift of microwave band by changing its permittivity at room temperature (20°C-2S∘C). The permittivity is controlled by the bias voltage. The simulation results show that 890 MHz offset is achieved. The proposed filter has many advantages, such as continuously electrically tunability, miniaturization, low tuning voltage, etc. Therefore, a great potential of such a filter has been shown for use in modern microwave communication applications.","PeriodicalId":312808,"journal":{"name":"2019 30th Irish Signals and Systems Conference (ISSC)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134494920","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

When existing first-order CANFs are used in this way the adaptation is biased due to the presence of multiple tones at the filter's input; some algorithms are also un-normalised, which is unsatisfactory when the interfering tones may have a wide range of amplitudes. This paper describes a normalised algorithm for first order adaptive filters which is computationally simple and offers significantly reduced bias when used in a multi-notch cascade.","PeriodicalId":312808,"journal":{"name":"2019 30th Irish Signals and Systems Conference (ISSC)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131276658","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Here Wi-Fi probe request bursts transmitted by a user device, e.g. a mobile phone, were sorted by the device's static MAC address and linked across location and time, therefore giving a detailed location and movement profile of the device's user. To combat this, device manufacturers introduced MAC address randomization in 2014, whereby a device changes its MAC address to a random value between transmissions of probe requests. Devices also switched to a more passive form of scanning for known networks, in which they wait for a beacon frame from a saved network rather than broadcasting the SSID of the network and awaiting a response. While both mechanisms reduce the attack surface and make it harder to track users, it does not fully solve the problem. This paper presents an access point honeypot system that works around both enhancements, therefore allowing tracking and profiling of the public with little effort or expense.","PeriodicalId":312808,"journal":{"name":"2019 30th Irish Signals and Systems Conference (ISSC)","volume":"256 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114466825","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Health care services are striving to produce a high quality of patient care and also drive down the costs of providing their services. Approaches taken by service providers to achieve this can be defined as, long term (strategic) mid-term (planning) and short term (scheduling). Scheduling in hospitals in the area of the operating theatre primarily involves resource allocation and theatre room utilization. If executed efficiently, this can generate financial and reputational gains. Inefficient theatre scheduling creates longer waiting times for patients, dissatisfaction in the workforce, decreases the quality of care and reduces revenue. This paper explores the approaches taken to address the operating theatre scheduling paradigm, using optimisation techniques. Additionally the problem space is defined and the core factors that make up an optimisation model and different approaches to scheduling are presented.","PeriodicalId":312808,"journal":{"name":"2019 30th Irish Signals and Systems Conference (ISSC)","volume":"89 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123331314","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
