The existing coverage measuring method cannot verify if SW safely works, and has a difficulty with a different level of understanding between a test case author and an administrator. It also provides the base to measure the outcome of the executed test. Using the suggested coverage measuring method, the test condition can be meaningfully quantified, and the effective and efficient test strategies can be established.","PeriodicalId":312017,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Software Testing, Verification and Validation Workshops (ICSTW)","volume":"139 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133105892","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To help practitioners reduce the needed effort, researchers have proposed many automated fault localization techniques over recent years. Spectrum-based fault localization techniques utilize the coverage data of test cases to localize faults. Although evaluations of these techniques show promising results, they are not being applied in practice yet. With this paper, we would like to stimulate discussions on challenges of operationalizing these techniques from a data-centric point of view. We describe the challenges we have encountered in our collaboration with industry. We also describe future plans.","PeriodicalId":312017,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Software Testing, Verification and Validation Workshops (ICSTW)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124241988","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As mutation analysis has been shown to be effective at designing tests for traditional software, we previously proposed web mutation testing. However, applying mutation analysis can be computationally expensive due to an extensive number of test requirements. This paper introduces, evaluates, and refines web mutation operators with the goal of reducing the number of test requirements. This paper evaluates redundancy among web mutation operators by analyzing the types of mutants that can be killed by tests generated specifically to kill other types of mutants and the types of mutants (and the operators that generate them) that can be excluded from testing while maintaining the same level of fault detection. An experimental study was conducted on 12 subject web applications using 15 web mutation operators. The redundancy in web mutation operators is computed as the percentage of the mutants of each operator that are killed by tests designed specifically to kill mutants of other operators. Tests designed specifically to kill mutants of some operators can also kill mutants generated from other operators. Three overlapping web mutation operators (WFUR, WHID, and WLUD) are redundant and can be excluded from mutation testing with minimal loss in fault detection capability.","PeriodicalId":312017,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Software Testing, Verification and Validation Workshops (ICSTW)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124361266","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Moreover, we build upon these theoretical observations to formulate a procedure on how, from the input space model of a composed SUT and t-way test suites for its components, to create a larger and unified t-way test suite. The proposed modelling methodologies for a composed SUT involve a hierarchy between the different input models of the components of the SUT, which is nested in such a way that it can be linked to certain combinatorial constructions for covering arrays. As a proof of concept of our modelling methodology, that arises from such combinatorial constructions, we apply it to a sample of composed SUTs to validate our approach in practice.","PeriodicalId":312017,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Software Testing, Verification and Validation Workshops (ICSTW)","volume":" 12","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120832567","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Towards Decentralized Conformance Checking in Model-Based Testing of Distributed Systems","authors":"B. Lima, J. Faria","doi":"10.1109/ICSTW.2017.64","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ICSTW.2017.64","url":null,"abstract":"In a growing number of domains, the provisioning of end-to-end services to the users depends on the proper interoperation of multiple products, forming a new distributed system. To ensure interoperability and the integrity of this new distributed system, it is important to conduct integration tests that verify not only the interactions with the environment but also the interactions between the system components. Integration test scenarios for that purpose may be conveniently specified by means of UML sequence diagrams, possibly allowing multiple execution paths. The automation of such integration tests requires that test components are also distributed, with a local tester deployed close to each system component, and a central tester coordinating the local testers. In such a test architecture, it is important to minimize the communication overhead during test execution. Hence, in this paper we investigate conditions upon which conformance errors can be detected locally (local observability) and test inputs can be decided locally (local controllability) by the local testers, without the need for exchanging coordination messages between the test components during test execution. The conditions are specified in a formal specification language that allows executing and validating the specification. Examples of test scenarios are also presented, illustrating local observability and controllability problems associated with optional messages without corresponding acknowledgment messages, races and non-local choices.","PeriodicalId":312017,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Software Testing, Verification and Validation Workshops (ICSTW)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131410667","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mutation Patterns for Temporal Requirements of Reactive Systems 反应系统时间需求的突变模式

The novelty of the approach is that the suggested mutations are semantic-based and applied to natural language description of requirements. This allows to focus only on plausible potential faults and to avoid generation of mutants that are irrelevant to the intended meaning of requirements. In many cases the effect of semantic-based mutations just can't be reached by usual syntax-based mutation of LTL (Linear Temporal Logic) formulas associated with requirements. To make this approach feasible, it is applied to various types of requirements patterns presented in [1], so that mutants are themselves patterns. Formalization of patterns and their mutants in LTL enables their use for test generation, for test adequacy evaluation, and for synthesis of monitors used in run-time verification.","PeriodicalId":312017,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Software Testing, Verification and Validation Workshops (ICSTW)","volume":"35 6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132351360","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As the usage of standardized quality assurance methods, metrics and tools can ease the work of any CV developer and quickly improve the overall process, we report here on the introduction of code coverage analysis in the field. Our initial motivations were both to understand the available test coverage tools and to compare them in order to answer the questions of which test coverage tool to prefer in the area of CV software and whether we can introduce some specific evaluation criteria for identifying the right tool to be used within a CV project. The readers may use this study to help choose the right coverage testing tools for their needs and environment. This article is also valuable to those who are new to the practice and the art of software coverage testing, as it is generally the case for CV people.","PeriodicalId":312017,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Software Testing, Verification and Validation Workshops (ICSTW)","volume":"90 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134588833","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to improve the traditional record-replay approach and reduce the effort that the testers spending on writing test scripts, we propose an approach that generates the Android application test scripts based on accessibility service without connecting to a computer. This approach simulates user input actions and replays them correctly even at the different conditions such as the internet connection is unstable when the device under test, the different resolutions on Android devices. In this paper, we describe how to generate test scripts automatically and make a comparison with existing tools for Android such as Robotium, Appium, UIAutomator, and MonkeyTalk.","PeriodicalId":312017,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Software Testing, Verification and Validation Workshops (ICSTW)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114981293","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nica","doi":"10.1109/ICSTW.2017.36","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ICSTW.2017.36","url":null,"abstract":"In this paper we assess and evaluate the quality of t-way combinatorial test-suites using three different test-suite quality assessment methods. As t-way combinatorial test-suites reduce the input space of a program under test, we investigate how an increasing t affects the quality of the test-suite. There are some limitations of existing test-suite quality assessment methods e.g. the number of mutants is limited by execution time and code coverage measurement might be intrusive due to changes of the behavior of the program under test when instrumenting the code. Here we generate t-way combinatorial test-suites for Java programs of different size. We compute mutation score and code coverage for the generated test-suites, and apply additionally a new model inference based approach, that does not require to execute the program under test, to compare the generated test-suites with each other and assign a quality valuation to the test-suites. Our results show that an increasing t generally raises test-suite quality in terms of mutation score, coverage, and model inference. However, the model inference approach is only applicable, if the outcomes of the programs under test are discrete values, and if the number of discrete values is less than the test-suite size.","PeriodicalId":312017,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Software Testing, Verification and Validation Workshops (ICSTW)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128418643","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
