Therefore we can use Sn(wn) as an approximation to f. However, the choice of {w makes quite a difference. For one thing, if one is looking for, say, a rational approximant, then this limits the choice for {wn. But often one just wants fast convergence to f. In this chapter we suggest a number of ideas for how to choose wn to this aim.","PeriodicalId":311524,"journal":{"name":"Mathematical Surveys and Monographs","volume":"08 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134191695","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We first describe the isometric action of the CREMONA group on an infinite dimension hyperbolic space. Then we mention the classification of the algebraic subgroups but also mentioned the closed normal subgroups and the regularisation of rational group actions. We thus give some properties of the whole group: in particular we recall the old and new presentations of the CREMONA group, the facts that it is perfect, hopfian, does not decompose as a non-trivial amalgam and has no faithful linear representation in characteristic zero. The finite subgroups of the 2-dimensional CREMONA group are described. The opposite situation, i.e. the uncountable subgroups, is also treated: the uncountable maximal abelian subgroups, nilpotent subgroups, centralisers etc. We then give many consequences of the isometric action of the CREMONA group previously described: for instance the facts that the CREMONA group satisfies TITS alternative and the BURNSIDE problem, is not simple, but also the description of its subgroups of elliptic elements and its solvable subgroups. Finally the construction of big subgroups of automorphisms of positive entropy is considered.","PeriodicalId":311524,"journal":{"name":"Mathematical Surveys and Monographs","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123393648","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
