Among them, wind resources are more important because of the progress in the technology of its facilities to convert wind to electricity. Wind turbines manufacturer companies improve the efficiency of their facilities during the last decade. On the other hand, the wind generator firms and investors intend to select a suitable wind turbine generators (WTGs) based on the wind distribution in a specific region. In this study, Output power (MW) of four different types of WTGs has been compared. The wind speed data has been collected for 10 years from 2000 to 2009 from Canada Swift Current region. Then, the model of wind speed has been predicted with ARMA time series. In the next stage, the output power of each WTG has been determined with probability method. Finally, the suitable WTG is recommended according to the output power produced.","PeriodicalId":311233,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Conference on Sustainable Utilization and Development in Engineering and Technology (CSUDET)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131065130","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper we design and implement a smart security system for restricted area where access is limited to people whose faces are available in the training database. First we are going to detect the face by detecting the human motion. Then face recognition is performed to determine the authority of the person to enter the sensitive area. At the same time, we track the coordinate of detected motion. Failing to recognize the face finally passes the estimated coordinate to anesthetic gun for targeting the intruder automatically. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of proposed security system in order to restrict the unauthorized access and enhanced reliability by use of face recognition.","PeriodicalId":311233,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Conference on Sustainable Utilization and Development in Engineering and Technology (CSUDET)","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114649454","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hence, besides increasing the energy usage efficiency of the vehicle, harvesting regenerative energy from braking or shock absorbing may help to prolong the driving range of the EV. This paper describes the reason for the uprising of Electric Vehicle and some of the existing energy regenerative suspension system while proposed a new hybrid damper. The concept, design and idea of the new damper are briefly introduced and a simulation is mainly done on the eddy current damper component. This multimode design provides energy harvesting system with a promising regenerative source for an EV.","PeriodicalId":311233,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Conference on Sustainable Utilization and Development in Engineering and Technology (CSUDET)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130976009","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Robustness against time varying channel is on the bases of Kalman gain. The modified algorithm also uses a measurement noise covariance that leads to fast convergence with respect to Signal to Noise (SNR) ratio. Simulation results show that the modified iterative algorithm presents robustness as well as minimum mean square error and less error probability when compared to Recursive Least Square (RLS) algorithm and Kalman channel equalizer.","PeriodicalId":311233,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Conference on Sustainable Utilization and Development in Engineering and Technology (CSUDET)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129469049","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Furthermore, many service provider companies lack proper fleet management system which causes low efficiency of services and reduced profit as the company could not monitor transportation operations. A real-time remote vehicle tracking system is one of the possible solutions to overcome these issues. This paper presents the development of the remote vehicle tracking system which integrates the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) Modem and Google Map. The GSM modem at the control center will receive the coordinates through Short Message Service (SMS) and updates the main database. The information then will be accessed by the website and the position of the vehicle will be displayed through the Google Maps application. A website has been developed to aid the user to track and view the vehicles' location and can be access anytime and anywhere as long as Internet connection is available. The three working functions are the latest tracked vehicle location, route history and route planner. The developed remote vehicle tracking system demonstrates the feasibility of real-time tracking of vehicles, which can be used for many applications including vehicle security and fleet management.","PeriodicalId":311233,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Conference on Sustainable Utilization and Development in Engineering and Technology (CSUDET)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125309875","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Street lights need more energy in winter than in summer due to longer winter nights. However, for a solar powered system, less energy is available in winter with less intense sunlight and shorter days. The mounting angle of panels has a great impact on the cumulative energy output of the panels. Our investigation shows that while a mounting angle of 23.1° yields maximum energy collection in summer and minimum energy collection in winter, a mounting angle of 46.5° increases the energy collection in winter and yields more or less uniform energy collection throughout the year. Assuming a panel efficiency of 16%, an average cumulative energy output of 950 Wh/m2/day with about 5-8% variation throughout the year has been found with a mounting angle of 46.5°. This results in about 9% reduction in the panel size than that required with a mounting angle of 231°. Moreover, installing a traffic sensor in the lighting system will allow detection of traffic density, thereby operating the lamps at different intensity levels as per requirements. This will save energy wastage in time of low or no traffic and will further relax the requirement on system size.","PeriodicalId":311233,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Conference on Sustainable Utilization and Development in Engineering and Technology (CSUDET)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131518048","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hourly sun position during day was estimated using a mathematical model that has been developed to calculate the cosine efficiency distribution for heliostat field layout design. The final layout of the heliostat field is designed by varying the tower height and the ground distance of the concerned heliostats and then evaluating the cosine efficiency of the heliostat field in terms of feasibility and workability due to land, material, and cost limitations. The total incident solar power to a fixed target on the tower was simulated for an entire year using TRNSYS software. The simulation outputs indicate that the heliostat field delivers 7.58 kW as peak value in December 28th where the total reflective area is 9 m2. The design specifications shall be used to build a solar power tower testing facility and the simulation results are required to approximate the power input to the receiver system for sizing purpose in the future.","PeriodicalId":311233,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Conference on Sustainable Utilization and Development in Engineering and Technology (CSUDET)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125867217","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
