In order to evaluate the efficiency of the approach compared to traditional methods based on bilateral conventions for the trading transactions, economic and technical performance indicators are presented. The developed approach is applied to a model of the Central Western European region. The results show that the flow-based method can improve the network efficiency leading to lower generation cost and higher economic welfare in the regarded region. The necessary simplifications of the load flow equations cause inevitable deviations of the estimated flows but the general behavior is uncritical. Apart from that, single situations require a sensitive monitoring by the involved parties.","PeriodicalId":310310,"journal":{"name":"2010 7th International Conference on the European Energy Market","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129849501","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Policy activitites do not control this sector to the same extent as before - corporate strategies and activities have also become important to understand. During 2002 the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences engaged more than one hundred experts from industry, government and academia to analyze energy within the project “Energy Foresight - Sweden in Europe”. One part of the project, the structure foresight panel, sketched out four different scenarios that each describes a possible European setting for the energy industries - meaning: corporate action was in the center. In this article the aim is to evaluate the result from that scenario project in hindsight and to compare it with other similar scenario projects in this field.","PeriodicalId":310310,"journal":{"name":"2010 7th International Conference on the European Energy Market","volume":"245 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123027001","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The problem is formalized as an optimal control problem where the amount of load to be postponed at successive time instants is set with respect to constraints representing the balance between generation and demand at successive time instants. The paper presents three market designs, namely minimization of the system operators' cost over the peak period, successive independent merit orders, and successive predictive merit orders considering payback effect. It shows that actual practices such as successive independent merit orders may lead to significant extra costs, which can be strongly reduced by including mid-term implications in the decision-making.","PeriodicalId":310310,"journal":{"name":"2010 7th International Conference on the European Energy Market","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117011493","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are seven ERI launched by ERGEG, covering also the regional markets established before. This paper brings the focus to the 8th REM covering the SEE countries launched by the European Commission. Dealing with congestion management and capacity allocation in particular, is used as an example in this paper to show that the progress made in the development of the SEE REM is great despite the short time of its existence, and even sometimes higher than the progress in some of the other ERI. A compromise between the congestion revenue and the investment cost is used to determine the optimal expansion scheme, considering the outage rates of transmission lines. Both the level of congestion and the price deviation in the network are used as the driving indicators for the need of network expansion. The uncertainty in wind power generation introduces the probabilistic locational marginal prices (LMPs) and the estimated congestion revenue for a specific system configuration. The proposed TEP approach is applied on Garver's six bus system and the planning schemes results are assessed.","PeriodicalId":310310,"journal":{"name":"2010 7th International Conference on the European Energy Market","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116470445","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Firstly, the optimal expansion of the Spanish electricity generation capacity from 2020 to 2050 is determined for four different storylines. Then, for each one of these storylines, a detailed analysis of the power system operation is performed for the years of 2020 and 2050. Two electricity models are used for that purpose: i) a long term generation expansion model, and ii) a medium-term system operational model. The results obtained showed that a high amount of RES generation could be integrated into the future Spanish power system but this should be accompanied with flexible generation and storage units for ensuring a secure system operation.","PeriodicalId":310310,"journal":{"name":"2010 7th International Conference on the European Energy Market","volume":"94 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115379681","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
