L*, a*, and b* values in samples treated with low pressure were significantly different compared to the control. It was observed that the process had an improving effect on the textural properties of the fish. While the aw value decreased to 0.822, the pH value decreased to 6.47. While TBARS values of the samples ranged between 0.014 and 0.031 mg MA / kg, TVB-N values ranged between 7.69 and 24.06 mg / 100 g. Total aerobic mesophilic bacteria, yeast/mold, total coliform group bacteria, and total aerobic psychrophilic bacteria counts of all samples exposed to low-pressure treatment were lower than the control during storage. As a result, the treatment positively affected the quality of pikeperch meat during the storage period.","PeriodicalId":31031,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Limnology and Freshwater Fisheries Research","volume":"44 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139262499","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In context, the infestation levels of E. lizae in relation to fish sexes, fish sizes and season were evaluated statistically. The research was conducted seasonally between May 2008 to April 2009, and the gills belonging to 103 fish samples were examined. The overall infection prevalence and mean values were 60.2% and 15.95, respectively. A total of 998 parasites were counted during the study period. The prevalence and mean intensity of E. lizae for thicklip grey mullet male and sexually unidentified fish samples (92%, 16.78; 55%, 21) were higher than that for females (48.3%, 13.61) respectively. E. lizae accumulated on host male and unidentified individuals than that female. The number of parasites found in a single host male and unidentified individual were counted as almost twice the number of parasites found in females. Prevalence and mean intensity were determined the highest in size class I with 69.6% and 26.3, and almost the same values in size groups II and III. E. lizae on host fish was observed in every season. The highest prevalence and mean intensity of E. lizae was recorded in spring with 100%, 24.88. About 60% of the total number of parasites counted were recorded in the spring. The lowest prevalence of E. lizae was recorded in summer at 12% and the lowest mean intensity of E. lizae was in the summer and the winter respectively with 9, 8.67 respectively. The infestation level of E. lizae was statistically significant with host sex and season, but there was no effect on fish size groups.","PeriodicalId":31031,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Limnology and Freshwater Fisheries Research","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47918883","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Yaklaşık 1800’lü yıllardan beridir özellikle Avrupalı araştırıcılar tarafından cinse ait birçok taksondan söz edilmektedir. Ancak son yıllarda yapılan moleküler çalışmalarla esas olarak üç taksonun varlığı belirlenmiştir Dreissena caputlacus (SCHÜTT 1993)’ un, Ege ve Akdeniz, Güneydoğu Anadolu’nun özellikle lentik sistemlerinde; D. polymorpha anatolica (LOCARD 1893)’nın özellikle Göller Bölgesi ve Ege Bölgesi’nde ve D. polymorpha gallandi (LOCARD 1893)’nın Marmara ve Batı Karadeniz bölgelerinde yayılış gösterdiği bildirilmektedir. Bu sonuçlar doğrultusundan 2000 yıllarından beridir ve günümüzde topladığımız örnekler yeniden değerlendirilerek genel bir listeye ulaşılmıştır. Bu çalışmada, son bulgular doğrultusunda Marmara, Ege, Akdeniz, Karadeniz, Güneydoğu ve Doğu Anadolu bölgelerden toplanan Dreissena örnekleriyle, cinsin yayılışı kısmen ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır. These fish, which show anadromous behavior, prefer the parts of the rivers close to the source for reproduction and the Black Sea for feeding. The first cultural study of this species, which has high consumer preference and economic value, was initiated by SUMAE in 1998. After 24 years of work, the F7 generation broodstock was created. Private sector was supported with broodstock in order to expand the farming of the species. In this study, the farming process of the Black Sea salmon was examined and the introduction of the species was aimed. Today, 25 private sector enterprises have production licenses and many enterprises carry out commercial production of a total of 1603 tons in the pilot scale. Commercial production is concentrated in the Eastern Black Sea Region, which is the natural distribution area of the species. Enterprises that produce portion sizes in ponds on land and have restaurants prefer the red-spotted stream ecotype for production, while enterprises that produce large fish in dams and seas prefer the marine ecotype, which reaches late sexual maturity and shows better growth performance than other ecotypes. Since the Black Sea salmon is the only endemic trout species showing typical salmon character in Türkiye, its adaptation to natural environmental conditions is quite good for marine net cage farming and freshwater aquaculture.","PeriodicalId":31031,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Limnology and Freshwater Fisheries Research","volume":"104 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139351004","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Sampling was done using a hand modified Eckman grab for sand and silt, the kick sampling technique and floatation method. They were sorted and identified using identification keys. A total of 2466 individuals were recorded in 66 taxa species belonging to thirteen (13) groups. Crustacean was the dominant group (36.29%) closely followed by gastropoda (35.60%) and diptera (21.04%). Significant similarity in fauna composition was observed. Station 3 had the highest population density with a relative abundance of 58.19% followed by station 2 (32.03%) and station 1 (9.77%). Diptera had the highest species diversity while nematode and lepidoptera had the least amongst the groups. Station 1 had the highest species richness (d) followed by station 3 and least in station 2. Species diversity showed no significant difference between the stations. Values for pollution tolerance index ranged between 13 and 15 at the stations. The highest value for pollution tolerance (PTI) was recorded in station 2 and the least in station 1. Positive significant correlations existed between most benthic organisms. The water quality is described as “fair”.","PeriodicalId":31031,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Limnology and Freshwater Fisheries Research","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46844128","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aimed at assessing the effect of different manure sources; inorganic fertilizer (a combination of DAP and Urea), and organic sources (chicken manure and cow dung manure) on the proximate composition, amino acid and fatty acid profile of L. minor under culture conditions. Results indicated that L. minor cultured with chicken manure had significantly higher crude protein level (36.8%) (P < 0.05) and lower crude fat content (8.10%) compared to the ones cultured with inorganic fertilizer and cow dung manure. Essential amino acids proportion was 50% in L. minor cultured with inorganic fertilizer, 45.4% in chicken manure and 44.8% in cow dung manure with lysine and phenylalanine being the most abundant amino acids. The total polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) were significantly higher (P < 0.05) in L. minor cultured using inorganic fertilizer (43.05 mg/100 g) with linoleic acid being the most dominant PUFA. The presence of high levels of amino acids and PUFA in the L. minor cultured with organic and inorganic fertilizer respectively indicates that it can provide quality protein and PUFA required for fish growth and well-being.","PeriodicalId":31031,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Limnology and Freshwater Fisheries Research","volume":"33 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139361099","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The freshwater mud turtle Emys orbicularis and Balkan turtle Mauremys rivulata, as well as the leech Placobdella costata, are distributed; however the relations between these organisms are not well-known in Turkish wetlands. In this study, the parasitism of Glossiphonid leech P. costata on freshwater turtles, E. orbicularis, and M. rivulata was assessed for the first time through field observations and laboratory examinations in Turkish wetlands. The infection prevalence in turtles was found to be 76%, with an intensity of 5.00 and an abundance of 3.82, all of which were higher in females. Although the infection prevalence was similar for both E. orbicularis and M. rivulata, infection intensity and abundance were higher in M. rivulata. Leeches were mostly sampled from the plastron and least from the head. The condition of the parasitic leech was found to be high, and P. costata preferred to feed on and parasitize predominantly female individuals of both turtle species.","PeriodicalId":31031,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Limnology and Freshwater Fisheries Research","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46723706","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To best of our knowledge, the current study is the first research that used this species as a source of collagen. Both ASC-S and ASC-B from mangar skin and bone contained glycine as the major amino acid and high amounts of proline, hydroxyproline, alanine, and glutamic acid. On the basis of dry weight, yields of ASC-S and ASC-B were 9.38 and 3.71%, respectively. Furthermore, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy proved that both collagens were integrated and native. Additionally, the results of XRD demonstrated that both of the collagens reserved their helical structures. The screened collagens had prominent absorptions at 230 nm by UV-Vis spectra. Additionally, the SEM studies have shown that both ACS-S and ASC-B have porous and fibrous nature. According to the UV–Vis and FTIR results, extracted collagens were characterized as type I collagen based on their amino acid composition. According to the obtained results, the collagen isolated from mangar can potentially be an alternative source of vertebrate collagens for use in the diet and other industries such as medical and pharmaceutical industries.","PeriodicalId":31031,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Limnology and Freshwater Fisheries Research","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42855756","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
