In so doing, I extensively draw on writing from the Anglo-American context which somewhat complicates the matter. Barnett (1998) implied that the \"cultural turn\" is not a \"coherent and singular process\" (379) which will emerge from my reflections as well. But even though the disciplines have undergone different ways of becoming, Dutch geographies are, formally, valued and assessed by procedures that have developed alongside, if not as a part of, the cultural turn(s) in the United Kingdom. In the Netherlands, different Departments have been a part of (or apart from) the cultural turn in different ways. In this article, I draw on some of the similarities and differences but will focus to a large extent on my own institutional context at the University of Groningen.","PeriodicalId":309229,"journal":{"name":"Social Geography Discussions","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-08-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123355791","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Insbesondere in den empirischen Phasen der praktischen Forschungsarbeit sind wir auf vielfaltige sprachliche Vermittlungen angewiesen. Der Beitrag widmet sich daher vor allem dem Aspekt des interkulturellen Forschens und beleuchtet vor dem Hintergrund aktuellerer Ansatze aus den Translationswissenschaften Ubersetzungsvorgange, wie sie auf unterschiedlichen Ebenen unserer Forschungsarbeit eine Rolle spielen. Dabei nehmen wir Bezug auf unterschiedliche Dimensionen des Begriffs der Ubersetzung und analysieren u.a. die Erfahrungen unserer Zusammenarbeit mit Projektpartnern vor Ort sowie die Interaktionen zwischen den Akteuren, die im Mittelpunkt unserer Arbeit stehen (grenzuberschreitende KleinhandlerInnen und UnternehmerInnen auf der einen Seite, Zoll- und Grenzschutzbeamte auf der anderen Seite). Interessanterweise bietet der Begriff der Ubersetzung auch die Moglichkeit, einen neuen Blick auf das gesamte Forschungsprojekt sowie auf Prozesse der Grenzuberschreitung im Allgemeinen zu gewinnen. Anhand der Beispiele versuchen wir abschliesend Bilanz hinsichtlich der Nutzlichkeit einiger Aspekte der Ubersetzungstheorien fur unsere sozialgeographische Grenzforschung zu ziehen.","PeriodicalId":309229,"journal":{"name":"Social Geography Discussions","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124891820","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
