This research develops a method for predicting driver's drowsiness. In order to measure the heart rate of driver non-invasively, we used capacity coupled electrodes and proposed a method to predicting drowsiness based on variations in the heart rate. This paper describes a structure and a principle of the system and experiments. The experiment conducted by using a driving simulator. The proposed system achieves detecting drowsiness of driver before a critical situation occurs.","PeriodicalId":309023,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE/SICE International Symposium on System Integration (SII)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132726664","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To investigate an area, robots are required to climb straight or spiral staircases because equipment components are installed on different-level floors, which are connected by stairs. Installed stairs are narrow and steep because the location of equipment components is given priority in the environment inside plants. It is considerably difficult for a tracked vehicle, which has high mobility on stairs or rough terrain, to climb spiral staircases. We propose a method for a tracked vehicle to climb spiral staircases. A characteristic of the method is that the tracked vehicle uses the reaction force from a safety wall, which is installed to prevent objects from dropping down and damaging the equipment in plants. It is shown that the climbing motion is easy to perform using the wall without complicated control, as compared to when the wall is not used. The climbing motion of a robot on a spiral staircase using a wall is analyzed by employing a dynamic model. Experimental results show that it is possible to climb without slippage and at a high speed by maintaining contact along the wall. These results show that a tracked vehicle can access areas that could not be reached earlier through contact with the environment. Furthermore, it is considered that the climbing motion using contact with the environment can be applied to an autonomous mobile robot for automating inspection because complicated control is not required.","PeriodicalId":309023,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE/SICE International Symposium on System Integration (SII)","volume":"418 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117334648","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Each EH device is removable, like a pin badge, by using a special connector consisting of a tack and a clutch, without one-to-one wiring. In a conventional EH system, each device, such as a sensor node, has its own individual EH element. Power aggregation systems using a wide variety of EH devices can supply more power than conventional EH systems, to a power-intensive device. The aggregation efficiency with respect to the number of connected devices and the variation in the output of each device are demonstrated by circuit simulation. The experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of power aggregation circuits.","PeriodicalId":309023,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE/SICE International Symposium on System Integration (SII)","volume":"88 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122021592","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The merchandises are sometimes not re-filled nor displayed properly and therefore the store losses the chance for selling the items. To solve the problem, we propose the autonomous merchandise stocking and disposal robotic shelf. In order to manipulate merchandises by robotic hand, the recognition of the kind of merchandise with its position and orientation are inevitable. As the first step to realize the autonomous shelf, in this paper, we propose the store merchandise recognition system using image processing with RFID tag information. We implemented prototype of the autonomous shelf equipped with RFID tag reader, CCD camera, and distance measuring sensor. We have developed a method to detect and track the players, to determine whether the players are moving and to actually play the game. A problem is that the system often lost or misdetect the players because the players' posture during a play is different from that when a person is walking. Therefore we propose two improvement methods. The first one is to improve the segmentation of objects using an LRF that works even when a player's arms overlap with the body. The second one is to detect the object that is the most probable as a human body. We conducted an experiment to confirm the effect of the proposed two new methods, and the result proved the improvement by the proposed method. In addition, we conducted an experiment to actually play the game by the robot and humans, confirming that the robot could actually play the game without big problems.","PeriodicalId":309023,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE/SICE International Symposium on System Integration (SII)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131066410","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the hurdling, hurdlers carry out asymmetrical motions. Therefore, hurdlers may have obtained asymmetrical muscle size through their training. In addition, if muscles of hurdlers have hypertrophied, hurdlers are likely to show specific muscle strength together with the morphological characteristics. The purpose of this study was to investigate the asymmetrical characteristics of hip flexor and extensor muscle size and strength in 110 m hurdlers. To investigate this issue, three independent experiments were conducted in this study. In the first experiment, we determined the size of the psoas major muscle, hamstrings and gluteal muscles. In the second experiment, we determined the isometric hip joint flexion and extension torque. In the third experiment, we determined the hip joint flexion and extension moment of the lead leg in the hurdling phase and investigated whether the cross sectional area (CSA) of the psoas major muscle and hamstrings of the lead leg significantly influence hip joint flexion and extension moment of the lead leg. The CSA of the psoas major muscle of the lead leg and the gluteal muscles of the trail leg were significantly greater than that of the other leg except for the hamstrings (p < 0.05, 0.01 respectively). Isometric hip joint flexion and extension torque of the lead leg was significantly greater that of the trail leg (p < 0.05, respectively). There were no significant correlations between the hip joint flexion moment during hurdling phase and the CSA of the psoas major muscle at any levels. Hip joint extension moment of hurdling phase was significantly correlated with the CSA of the hamstrings at the level of 30% distal thigh length (p < 0.01). These results suggest that hurdlers had obtained competition-specific morphological and muscle strength characteristics through the training unique to hurdling.","PeriodicalId":309023,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE/SICE International Symposium on System Integration (SII)","volume":"115 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124815090","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A single camera configured as eye-in-hand device at the end of the mobile manipulator is used to detect and track the position and orientation of a fiducial marker which is fixed at the bottom of the UAV. By employing visual information in a specified workspace, the position of the UAV is controlled in a predefined 3D coordinate system that allows the UAV to hover in a stationary position with respect to the mobile robot base. At the same time, the end effector is programmed to continuously follow the movements of the UAV in order to prevent the loss of sight. The final contact between the UAV and manipulator is made possible with the approach of the end effector in a controlled manner, while maintaining visual contact with the UAV during the docking process. A special magnetic connection is designed that allows coupling of the two parts that are located at the end effector and at the bottom of the UAV, respectively. The effectiveness of the proposed system is tested through simulations and the results are verified.","PeriodicalId":309023,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE/SICE International Symposium on System Integration (SII)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125889378","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
