Pinnaduwa","doi":"10.55156/jjsem.dec2124","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.55156/jjsem.dec2124","url":null,"abstract":"– This article aims at analysing the difficulties in teaching Japanese passive voice to Sri Lankan learners in secondary schools and private institutes in two districts of Sri Lanka. It also shows the difficulties in teaching the Passive Voice of Japanese and better methods to reduce the difficulties. Based on this, a questionnaire was provided, and an interview was held among 20 Japanese language teachers as convenience sampling to collect data and find out their difficulties in teaching the Passive Voice and find suitable methods to reduce their difficulties. Once the data was collected, it was analysed using a cross-sectional analysis. The results show that some factors can strongly affect passive voice teachings, such as cultural differences, lack of practice, the complexity of Japanese passive voice, and L1 interference in L2 acquisition. Then the researcher concludes that to gain better results in teaching Japanese Passive voice, teachers need to give the learners a good knowledge of Japan's language and culture.
