The social ties and relationships resulting from the implementation of religious activities, such as the holy month of Ramadan, Hajj, and participation in Friday Prayers, facilitate the control and reduction of depression and anxiety. Spirituality allows for the promotion of psychological capacity and ability to cope with stress and problems, thereby improving mental health (1). Religious experiences, especially mystical ones, have a significant role in psychotherapy. In fact, spiritual experiences are a kind of 'awareness of the spiritual world', 'mysticism', 'culmination', and 'religious and spiritual experiences'. The phenomenon of spirituality is a multidimensional structure, which consists of several parts. These components include spiritual or supra-spiritual dimension, meaning and purpose in life, having a mission and a sense of duty and commitment in life, sanctity of life, neglecting materialistic values, altruism, idealism, awareness of the tragedy of pain, disaster, and death, as well as the fruits of spirituality (2). The family is one of the most important educational environments in the transfer and education of religious values (3). Therefore, given the fundamental and decisive role of parents in the lives of children, the present study aimed to investigate whether the loss or absence of a father has a detrimental effect on the religious values of the offspring. Moreover, the emphasis on community-based healthcare and addressing patients’ beliefs for treatment necessitates the provision of health services in accordance with the values of individuals (8). This type of anxiety represents a constant, abnormal fear of death, namely, thanatophobia (3). An unusual and great fear of death is characterized by the overwhelming expression of the horror of death or of anxiety when thinking about the process of dying or what happens after death (4). Based on the results of Aghajani et al. (5), there was a significant difference in the average of death anxiety between nurses in intensive and general wards, and the mean death anxiety was associated with certain variables such as marital status, organizational position, and the ward where they were currently working. The results of the study also showed that there was a significant difference in death anxiety among female nurses in different wards of the hospital, while the emergency department nurses had less death anxiety than the nurses of the other wards, and operating room nurses had the highest level of death anxiety (6). Humans in the ups and downs of history have always suffered from many pains and social traumas, and they have been seeking out measures and motives to find ways and means to get rid of them; the set of such knowledge and experiences expanded certain grounds for human beings’ spirituality and religiosity. Therefore, marital intimacy has always been a major concern of counselors and psychologists. In fact, marital intimacy is the main motive for the formation of marital relationship, and involves a degree of a sense of closeness and care that each of the couples feels to have and expresses toward each other (1). Family experts emphasize the importance of intimate relationship in the relationships between couples and consider it to be reliable and necessary to develop family identity. Intimate relationship plays a prominent role in the quality of life of couples and is the key to successful marriage and marital satisfaction (2). Couples' interactions comprise the basis of family functioning, are a very important platform for the formation of family health, and play a unique role in comparison with other factors involved (3). The existence of intimacy in this area affects the sustainability of marriage and the various dimensions of couples’ health. Couples who show more marital intimacy have higher levels of physical, psychological, and social health (4), feel better about their lives (5), and have better self-care and preventive behaviors in their lifestyles (6); in the long term, they are less likely to suffer from chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease (7), have a better ability to deal with different life issues, and have a longer lifespan (8). In religious culture, family is a monotheistic unit, which is related to the divine monotheism (1). Despite the importance of family, the high divorce rate and its impact on health in Iran are astounding (2). The actual cause of many divorces is sexual incompatibilities between the husband and wife, which reduce their inclination toward each other, resulting in divorce due to various trivial issues (3). In all societies and religions, sexuality is a taboo and women do not express their sexual problems due to timidity and modesty. However, these problems emerge in the form of physical discomforts, depression and dissatisfaction with marital life (4). In general, women’s health is the foundation of family and society’s health (5). In addition, as one of the aspects of health, sexual health is one of the essential components of sustainable marriage. According to the definition by the World Health Organization, sexual health is integrity and harmony between mind, feelings and body in sexual relationships, directing social and intellectual aspects of human beings toward the promotion of character and creating communication and love (6,7). Several studies have been conducted on the relationship between religion and various aspects of sexual health. Epilepsy is the most common chronic disorder of the nervous system, which occurs due to abnormal electrical discharge in a group of brain neurons, and causes frequent seizures (1, 2). The annual incidence of epilepsy is estimated to be 2-4 per 100,000 population in adults and 17-23 per 100,000 population in children (3). Epilepsy may occur at any age, but about 75% of cases occur before the age of 20 years (4). Typically, the onset of a disease, especially chronic disease, in children, causes a family crisis, because in this situation, the child's parents are often responsible for his/her illness and feel anxious, guilty, helpless, and ineffective, and as a result, their function and ultimately the function of the whole family is affected (5). In this regard, mothers are more and more deeply affected by the crisis, but fathers are comparatively more stable and gradually recover (6). Psychological disorders, especially stress and anxiety, are some of the problems that parents of children with epilepsy deal with. Therefore, the family members, as with the patient, may need to adapt to stressors in order to maintain their internal balance (7).
