Naturally burnt areas allowed better viewing of small sandstone caves. This paper discusses some of the processes operating within the quartz sandstone, leading to the attractive and unusual shapes, and how extreme weather led to the mobilisation and redeposition of iron minerals.","PeriodicalId":30719,"journal":{"name":"Landform Analysis","volume":"52 8","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140739301","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Surface runoff, initiated by rainfall, plays a key role in this process. This article addresses the effects of rainfall intensity and soil moisture on soil erosion through a series of rainfall simulations of different intensity and duration. The implementation of measurements at a research station located in the Różany Stream catchment in Poznań made it possible to study the entire water balance within the slope, including precipitation, evaporation, surface runoff and infiltration. The study included various rainfall intensities, with a focus on extreme events reflecting ongoing climate change and increasing anthropopressure. Rainfall simulations were conducted on both dry and wet ground. The results showed that increasing rainfall intensity led to greater surface runoff and soil loss. Moreover, soil moisture was identified as a critical factor affecting soil erosion, with wetter conditions reducing soil loss while increasing surface runoff.","PeriodicalId":30719,"journal":{"name":"Landform Analysis","volume":"249 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139220614","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Z uwagi na przewidywany wzrost ryzyka powodzi poszukiwanie nowych sposobów zarządzania ryzykiem powodziowym jest istotnym wyzwaniem krajowej gospodarki wodnej. Jednym z rozwiązań mogących służyć ograniczaniu ryzyka powodziowego, przy jednoczesnej możliwości utrzymania produkcji rolnej oraz ochronie istniejących ekosystemów i krajobrazu są poldery. Mimo potencjalnych korzyści związanych z wykorzystaniem polderów, ich potencjał jest jednak niewykorzystany z uwagi na liczne bariery dla ich efektywnego wdrażania i zarządzania nimi. Artykuł ma na celu rozpoznanie gospodarki polderowej w Polsce wraz z ustaleniem zdolności retencyjnych na podstawie parametrów morfometrycznych polderów, określeniem ich funkcjonalności oraz możliwości w zakresie ochrony poszczególnych komponentów środowiska. Na podstawie opracowanej charakterystyki zdefiniowano również bariery ograniczające efektywne wykorzystanie polderów, a także podjęto próbę sformułowania rozwiązań problemów związanych z wdrażaniem i zarządzaniem polderami. Rezultatem przeprowadzonych badań jest propozycja definicji polderu oraz rekomendacje w zakresie możliwości usystematyzowania zagadnień związanych z gospodarką polderową w Polsce.","PeriodicalId":30719,"journal":{"name":"Landform Analysis","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46077471","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The basic parameters of point clouds obtained in the process of airborne laser scanning (ALS), terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) and digital processing of photos obtained with UAV (Structure from Motion – UAV-SfM) were analysed. The obtained results allowed to state that the models with the highest resolution and accuracy can be obtained using the TLS and UAV-SfM methods. These two techniques provide the greatest possibilities in detailed relief analyses and estimation of the sediment budget in small research sites. Images of ALS are less accurate, but for studies carried out in larger areas they seem to be the most optimal solution.","PeriodicalId":30719,"journal":{"name":"Landform Analysis","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41573199","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is because the Norwegian Channel ice stream did not reach this area. Recently a few specimens of rocks representing Oslo region have been found at the Owczary site (north-western Poland), what raised questions regarding the relative age of the deposits, as well as the depositional history of the erratics. The questions were addressed using lithofacies analysis, as well as structural and textural analyses, combined with clast petrography (medium and coarse gravel). Clast petrography analysis revealed that the deposits containing rocks of the Oslo region are of the late Saalian age (Warthe), though some evidence suggest the early Saalian age (Drenthe).","PeriodicalId":30719,"journal":{"name":"Landform Analysis","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66211562","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data were gathered at two water gauging sites representative of areas formed of crystalline rock (i.e. Goryczkowy Stream) and areas formed of sedimentary rock characterized by extensive karst systems (Bystra Stream). The main process responsible for changes in water chemistry in both catchments over the study period was dilution of groundwater with snowmelt and precipitation water. This was manifested via a decrease in the concentration of most ions in the studied streams at high water stages. The water chemistry of Bystra Stream draining sedimentary rocks was affected in part also by the influx of water from karst systems. In the Goryczkowy Potok Stream the changes were modified by flushing of ions from the soil by throughflow.","PeriodicalId":30719,"journal":{"name":"Landform Analysis","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46833277","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Attention has been paid to the different altitudes and courses of the orographic ridges as well as their location relative to the prevailing directions of influx of moist air masses. The cases analysed included torrential rains with monsoon circulation from the S–SW direction at the 2–3 km high edge of the Himalayas, with special consideration to the distance from the margin of the mountains and the exposure of the slopes. They generate frequent flood waves, landslides, debris flows and upbuilding of the alluvial cones in the foreland of the mountain barriers. The impact of the orographic barrier is significantly less marked in the Polish Carpathians. In the western part, the compact edge of the Western Beskids with an altitude of 0.5–1 km and the WSW–NEE course, exposed to moist air masses inflowing from the northern sector, is fragmented eastward into smaller mountain groups, which facilitates the penetration of moist masses of air with occurrence of prolonged precipitation into the mountains. At times, the storm cloud moves along the mountain edge (the margin of the Western Bieszczady Mts.). The marginal scarp of the Foothills has a northern exposure and a height of 150–200 m, and promotes frequent convective precipitation causing local flash floods in small streams. The cases of downpours and high discharges selected for the analysis were those for which there was available a dense network of measuring stations. An insufficient number of stations in constructing precipitation maps based on interpolation would lead to distorting the spatial image. If this were the case, then the role of slope exposure, which has an essential impact on the distribution of precipitation in mountainous regions, would be completely neglected","PeriodicalId":30719,"journal":{"name":"Landform Analysis","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43559681","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
