A closed-form expression for the signal-to-noise ratio is derived and the asymptotic limit of the performance is calculated. The results show that by choosing a suitable value of the frequency offset, the N-FOM system can have an acceptable performance in the presence of single-tone interference, particularly in comparison with modulated interference. However, due to the self-correlation operation of the N-FOM receiver, many interference cross-terms are produced. This increases the overall noise which can restrict N-FOM communication in a high-interference regime.","PeriodicalId":306855,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 21st Symposium on Communications and Vehicular Technology in the Benelux (SCVT)","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122128657","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a scheme combining turbo coding and cooperative relay techniques, comprising one source, one destination and a single relay is proposed and studied. The aim of this study is to investigate the bit error rate (BER) performance in cooperative turbo coded systems equipped with an omni-directional antenna element at the transmission and the reception in the presence of channel estimation errors. Herein, the Amplify-and-Forward (AF) cooperation protocol is adopted at the relay level. Furthermore, a single hop scenario is considered, and the imperfect channel state information (CSI) is assumed to be present at the source-destination link. Two turbo codes, are generated at the source using the same polynomial, with overall rates of 1/2 and 1/3, respectively, the 1/2-rated one being generated from the latter using puncturing. Before iterative decoding, the destination performs a maximum ratio combing (MRC) of the signals emanating from the source and the relay transmitters. According to the authors 'knowledge, the investigation of the effect of channel estimation errors on the performance of such systems has not yet been reported.","PeriodicalId":306855,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 21st Symposium on Communications and Vehicular Technology in the Benelux (SCVT)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127675260","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The communications between nodes are multihop, and provided in a decentralized way without preexisting infrastructure. These characteristics make MANETs vulnerable to many types of Denial of Service (DoS) attacks, this including, Wormhole, Blackhole and Grayhole attack. This latter targets some reactive routing protocols in the aim of disrupting the forwarding process in the network. Grayhole attack occurs during the route discovery phase when a malicious node drops some of received packets. The watchdog is a well-known intrusion detection mechanism and usually used to detect this kind of attack. However, watchdogs are characterized by a relatively high rate of false alerts. In this paper, we propose a novel approach of watchdog based on two Bayesian filters: Bernoulli and Multinomial. We use these two models in a complementary manner to successfully detect the packet dropping attacks in mobile ad hoc networks. Based on simulation results, our filters prove that these attacks can be detected with a high rate of accuracy.","PeriodicalId":306855,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 21st Symposium on Communications and Vehicular Technology in the Benelux (SCVT)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134269086","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is confirmed by the tremendous success of media streaming services such as Spotify and Netflix, as well as the content and file-distribution systems such as BitTorrent. A recurring problem in these type of network services is about keeping the protocol overhead as low as possible while maximizing the efficiency of such systems in terms of network delay to customers. In this paper we propose the use of a routing system-inferred coordinate system to improve: i) content server selection upon receiving content requests, and ii) the mapping of content to servers/caches. We describe the required protocol mechanisms, and evaluate potential gains using coordinates of Geometric Tree Routing and compare it to pure IP-based mechanisms or measurement-based content systems relying on coordinates. The proposed approach can be further extended in order to include alternate geometric systems for example supporting hyperbolic geometries.","PeriodicalId":306855,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 21st Symposium on Communications and Vehicular Technology in the Benelux (SCVT)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126577636","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we consider a cooperative spectrum sensing scenario in which the decisions from the secondary users are combined for better sensing accuracy. Each secondary user sends its decision or data to a central node which combines all individual data or decisions. A DFT filter bank based architecture is used by each secondary user for efficient detection of a primary user signal in a desired time-frequency slot. The prototype filters underlying the DFT filter banks are optimized to provide maximum time-frequency resolution. The optimization is done using the concepts of time-frequency analysis and convex optimization. We formulate an objective function to represent the time-frequency distribution of signal energy and use numerical methods to obtain optimized prototypes. The simulation results show that the use of optimized DFT filter banks and cooperation between the sensing nodes give us better performance as compared to other sensing techniques.","PeriodicalId":306855,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 21st Symposium on Communications and Vehicular Technology in the Benelux (SCVT)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128157850","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

VANET applications are inherently broadcast-oriented and require the underlying communication protocols to be reliable and scalable. On the other hand, the conventional broadcast mechanism may lead to the so called broadcast storm problem, a scenario in which there is a high level of contention and an excessive number of broadcast packets suffer from collision. In this paper, we propose direction oriented and stochastic controlled repletion techniques in an IEEE802.11e-based VANET to overcome the broadcast storm problem in a two dimensional highway. The adequacy of the proposed techniques has been evaluated by a simulation. The results of this simulation show that the performance of VANET improves by setting proper parameters and controlling the number of repetition per priority class. Further, controlling the storm problem by direction oriented technique can highly improve the performance of VANET for broadcasting of safety messages.","PeriodicalId":306855,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 21st Symposium on Communications and Vehicular Technology in the Benelux (SCVT)","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133122460","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To do this, we model the problem of connecting the houses with FttH in a novel way: we know already where the fibre segments have to be, but how to connect them to create a coherent network? This can be modelled as a Minimal Steiner Tree problem. Next we present a heuristic approach to solve this node and edge weighted Minimum Steiner Tree problem and introduce a method to incorporate smart co-laying opportunities in this approach, which are called the the timing benefits.","PeriodicalId":306855,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 21st Symposium on Communications and Vehicular Technology in the Benelux (SCVT)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129521313","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Besides the radio frequency DSRC, the usage of visible light communication is discussed as well. It was found out that the two are complementary technologies, each of them being suitable in the scenario in which the other one is vulnerable.
