Two methods of estimation, namely, maximum likelihood estimation and maximum product spacing estimation have been discussed. The simulation study has been presented to know the consistency of the estimator of parameters given by the two methods of estimation. Confidence intervals of the parameters are given. The goodness of fit of the distribution has been demonstrated with two real lifetime datasets and the goodness of fit shows that weighted Amarendra distribution provides better fit over weighted Pratibha distribution, weighted Komal distribution, weighted Lindley distribution, weighted Garima distribution, weighted Sujatha distribution, weighted Akash distribution and Gamma distribution.","PeriodicalId":306651,"journal":{"name":"Biometrics & Biostatistics International Journal","volume":" 42","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141832770","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Throughout the lockdown and unlock periods, pollutants in the atmosphere were significantly reduced; a significant reduction was observed in Hyderabad with higher traffic levels with a maximum reduction of PM2.5 and PM10 levels (60.3% and 53.4%, respectively) compared to pre-lockdown levels. The number of COVID-19 cases relative to most of the air pollutants was negatively correlated, which may be a mere coincidence as a result of the lockdown. The correlation test reveals a positive association between the ambient temperature and COVID-19 confirmed cases (r = 0.99, 0.07) during the lockdown phase and throughout the study period, suggests that the warm, tropical weather in the area of the study region is successful in preventing the spread of COVID-19. The findings of this study can help us comprehend how environmental variables play a part in the spread of COVID-19 in tropical and subtropical nations. The results of this study also suggest that temporary lockdowns useful tool for managing environmental imbalances.","PeriodicalId":306651,"journal":{"name":"Biometrics & Biostatistics International Journal","volume":"77 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141011059","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The model consists of three stages: a time-domain cochlear model that generates instantaneous rates of auditory nerve fibers, coincidence detection cells that amplify neural activity synchronously with speech presence, and an optimal spectro-temporal speech presence estimator. A comparative analysis between speech estimation based on the firing rates of auditory nerve fibers and those of coincidence detection cells indicates that the neural representation of coincidence cells significantly reduces noise components, resulting in a more distinguishable representation of speech in noise. The proposed framework demonstrates the potential of brainstem nuclei processing in enhancing auditory skills. Moreover, this approach can be further tested in other sensory systems in general and within the auditory system in particular.","PeriodicalId":306651,"journal":{"name":"Biometrics & Biostatistics International Journal","volume":"108 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131358725","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thomas, Hua Ling","doi":"10.15406/bbij.2023.12.00390","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.15406/bbij.2023.12.00390","url":null,"abstract":"Background: Neutropenic fever remains a serious complication of chemotherapy due to the myelosuppressive effects of most antineoplastic regimens. Granulocyte colony-stimulating factors (G-CSFs) have been effective in reducing the risk of developing febrile neutropenia and decreasing its duration. However, most patients with a low risk of FN who use GCSFs may incur unnecessary costs, possible adverse effects, and may have fewer benefits than those seen in intermediate and high-risk patients. Objective: The purpose of this study is to determine if G-CSF medications are being utilized in accordance with the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines for primary or secondary prevention of febrile and non-febrile neutropenia due to chemotherapy within the network of physicians groups and infusion centers. Study design and methods: This is a multi-center, retrospective, chart review over a 3-month period. The data was collected from patients seen at any of the Northwest Georgia Oncology Centers (NGOC), Wellstar Medical Group, and LaGrange infusion center locations from June 1, 2020 to August 31, 2020. Patients aged 18 and older with a cancer diagnosis who received either pegfilgrastim, filgrastim, or a biosimilar were included in the analysis. The patient charts were reviewed for the presence of chemotherapy regimens and the subsequent G-CSF use in addition to any patient specific risk factors for febrile neutropenia. Results: A total of 283 patients met the inclusion criteria and were evaluated. The average age was 61 years old, and the patient population was 75.3% female. Of the patients evaluated, 268 out of 283 patients (95%) utilized either pegfilgrastim, filgrastim, or a biosimilar in accordance with the NCCN guidelines for prevention or treatment of neutropenia or febrile neutropenia due to chemotherapy. Conclusion: We found that over the three-month study period, the majority of G-CSF medication administrations were used in accordance with the NCCN guidelines in the setting of oncology patients within the healthcare management group.","PeriodicalId":306651,"journal":{"name":"Biometrics & Biostatistics International Journal","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132499912","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We analyzed the maximum length, intercondylar breadth, vertical diameter, and transverse diameter of the left and right humeri, measured in millimetres (mm), from a sample of 86 humeri (46males and 40females) in Sri Lankan adults. To identify significant mean differences between male and female humeral dimensions, we employed paired sample t-tests and Wilcoxon signed-rank tests. Additionally, we explored linear and quadratic discriminant functions for each dimension and for combinations of dimensions to determine sex. It was found that all four humeral dimensions were significantly larger in males compared to females. The results indicate that the univariate quadratic linear discriminant function outperforms the linear discriminant function in estimating sex with higher accuracy. Both the left and right transverse diameters provide 99% accuracy in sex determination when using univariate quadratic discriminant functions, while the maximum length of the humerus showed the lowest accuracy. The multivariate discriminant process yielded lower accuracy compared to the univariate quadratic discriminant function. Based on these findings, we conclude that a univariate quadratic discriminant function utilizing either the left or right transverse diameter of the humerus is the most effective approach for predicting sex in the contemporary Sri Lankan population. This study is groundbreaking in providing insights into sex determination based on humeral measurements in the Sri Lankan population. The findings contribute to various fields such as forensic investigations, bio-archaeology, and medical research, where the accurate determination of sex is crucial.","PeriodicalId":306651,"journal":{"name":"Biometrics & Biostatistics International Journal","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123136254","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
