Till date, no attention has been given on the effect of draft tube on GWVT. A model of GWVT along with a conical basin is developed on CATIA v5, and then subjected to a series of computational studies on ANSYS 2020R2. A similar setup is constructed in which a straight divergent draft tube is installed at the exit of the conical basin. The numerical approach suggested that maximum efficiency of the setup in the former case was 72.0% at 53 RPM whereas the efficiency in the latter case was 79.0% at 65 RPM. The increase in the efficiency was calculated to be 9.72%. This conclusion was validated through experimental verification conducted at Himalaya College of Engineering, Chyasal on a pre-fabricated test-rig of capacity 480 L, where the maximum efficiency of 69.4% and 64.5% were obtained with and without the installation of the draft tube respectively. Consequently, an increase of 7.59% in the efficiency of GWVT as an effect of draft tube was observed experimentally. It can be concluded that draft tube plays a vital role in the efficiency of the Gravitational Water Vortex Turbine.","PeriodicalId":306432,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced College of Engineering and Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124995426","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

But the seismic performance of the RC structure is affected by various factors among which site soil condition is vital. The sub-soil condition affects the time period of the structure which eventually impacts the earthquake force in the structure, thus making variations in seismic loadings. Although several studies have been performed and design elastic spectra have been defined as per soil types in the design codes, there are no studies quantifying the effect of design demand in the buildings due to variation of soil type in the context of Nepal and NBC 105:2020. Therefore, this study aims to present the variation in design demand for moderately high-rise RC buildings in different soil types. A representative sample building has been taken and analyzed in the Finite Element platform SAP 2000. Numerical analysis is performed using linear static and response spectrum methods. Based on the study, variation in the base shear, story displacement, inter-story drift, and section size to meet the limit state of strength are compared for soil types A, B, C, and D.","PeriodicalId":306432,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced College of Engineering and Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116544598","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents a proposed system that leverages machine learning algorithms, specifically Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Support Vector Machine (SVM), to accurately detect the drowsy state of drivers by analyzing the diameter of their eyes and comparing the level of dilation or constriction. Drowsy driving poses a significant problem on roadways, as indicated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's data, which reports approximately 100,000 police-reported collisions each year involving drowsy driving, leading to over 1,550 fatalities and 71,000 injuries. The proposed system demonstrates the potential to reduce accidents associated with drowsy driving. We conducted an evaluation and comparison of the effectiveness of CNN and SVM algorithms with the objective of identifying the optimal algorithm for drowsiness detection. Our algorithms were trained on a comprehensive dataset comprising images of drowsy and alert drivers, enabling real-time and accurate identification of the driver's state. Employing advanced image processing techniques, the proposed system analyzes changes in eye diameter associated with drowsiness. Its purpose is to promptly alert drivers, thus mitigating accidents caused by drowsy driving. We anticipate that this system will provide a reliable and cost-effective solution to the problem of drowsy driving, with potential benefits for both drivers and passengers. Further research and development efforts could facilitate its widespread adoption in the automotive industry. This paper underscores the significance of addressing drowsy driving and introduces a promising solution through the application of machine learning algorithms.  ","PeriodicalId":306432,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced College of Engineering and Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130469106","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The rotor will be exposed to large stresses which result in surface cracking, overheating of brake fluid, seals and other components during the braking process. Thus, one of the main tasks for the design of braking system is to reduce the stress, deformation and surface temperature of the brake rotor. This can be achieved by choosing the right material which will undergo the least thermal stresses. In this research a detailed study of structural and thermal analysis is carried out for disc brake rotor of DHC-6 Twin Otter with different materials. The objective of this research is to provide an efficient material for disc brake rotor which can dissipate heat generated during braking at faster rate and also being structurally safe. The materials chosen for the study are Mild Steel, Grey cast iron, Stainless steel, Cabon-carbon composite and Aluminum silicon carbide MMC. From the structural and thermal analysis it was found that the aluminum silicon carbide MMC disc brake rotor exhibits the superior performance against other materials with a  mass of 2.37 Kg, deformation of 0.043617 mm, maximum stress of 167.91 MPa, maximum temperature of 250.85 oC and heat flux of 5.2043 W/mm2. The mass, stress, deformation and temperature developed in the aluminum silicon carbide MMC rotor is less than the original stainless steel rotor by 61.3%, 3.66%, 6.9% and 35.6% respectively. Similarly, the aluminum silicon carbide MMC rotor provides better heat dissipation as compared to original rotor due to an increment in heat flux by 15.26%.","PeriodicalId":306432,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced College of Engineering and Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129597991","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this very reason, the structures are in need of being upgraded or replaced. Retrofitting using near-surface mounted (NSM) fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) rods has now emerged as a promising technique for strengthening the reinforced concrete members by increasing their flexural strength. This study aims to numerically investigate the efficiency of the NSM technique for flexural strengthening of RC beams by using finite element (FE) software, ABAQUS, and also evaluate the impact of variables such as concrete strength, embedded length of FRP rods, filler material used for the FRP rods, and the number of FRP rods provided. Validation of the finite element model was confirmed by first making a comparison with the experimental study presented in the literature for an un-strengthened beam. Thereafter, the validated model was used to simulate reinforced concrete beams strengthened with the NSM technique. The numerical results of the cracking moment, steel yielding moment, ultimate bending moment, and deflection at failure were reported and the impact of the variables was evaluated. The FE analysis results indicated that for the RC beams strengthened with NSM FRP rods, the flexural capacity significantly increased compared to the control beam, while the mid-span deflections of strengthened beams at failure decreased compared to the control beam.","PeriodicalId":306432,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced College of Engineering and Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132705043","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Because of this, there is a need for these models to be updated to better reflect the measured data. This paper introduces computational intelligence techniques to update finite element models. The model updating is formulated as a constrained optimization problem and solved using a recently developed meta-heuristic algorithm called Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) algorithm. A MATLAB code is developed using the model-updating formulations presented in this paper. Numerical simulation studies are carried out by solving for the proposed model updating technique by using pseudo-experimental data of an 8storey framed structure and also the experimental data of ASCE three storey benchmark structure. Studies presented in this paper clearly indicate the effectiveness of the proposed computational intelligence-based model updating technique.","PeriodicalId":306432,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced College of Engineering and Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130916316","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To predict the option value during the contract of the option is a big problem. Several studies have been shown that the option price value can be determined by applying different methods. In this paper, we have discussed three finite difference methods: Explicit, Implicit and Crank-Nicolson for solving Black-Scholes equation for European call option and compared the obtained results with the exact value. It is found that the Crank-Nicolson method is more accurate and cost effective in comparison with explicit and implicit methods.","PeriodicalId":306432,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced College of Engineering and Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129841323","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Sand and coarse aggregate were partially replaced by crumb rubber and EPS in different percentages like 0%, 10%, 20% and 30% for Grade M20 and M15 concrete samples. The sample of size (240 × 115× 57) mm for M15 and M20 grade of concrete were prepared for the test. Various properties like Compressive strength, Bulk density and water absorption of the concrete brick prepared were determined. The normal consistency, initial and final setting time and compressive strength of cement used for the experiment were determined as 27%, 120 minutes, 290 minutes and 40.34 N/mm2 respectively before carrying out the experiment. The nominal maximum size of sand, coarse aggregate, crumb rubber and EPS used for the preparation of concrete brick sample were found as 2.36 mm, 12.5mm, 2.36 mm and 4.75 mm respectively from the sieve analysis. Impact value of coarse aggregate obtained was 17.06 %. \u0000The experimental results showed that water absorption of prepared M15 and M20 concrete brick samples increased whereas compressive strength and bulk density decreased with increase in percentage replacement of sand by crumb rubber and coarse aggregate by EPS. The results obtained from the experiment showed that concrete brick made with partial replacement of sand and coarse aggregate y crumb rubber and EPS respectively had sufficient compressive strength compared to common brick.","PeriodicalId":306432,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced College of Engineering and Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127336369","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
