For these quality processes to remain effective, a continuous improvement model is required and implemented from time to time. Some of these models include Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control (DMAIC); Plan, Do, Check, and Act (PDCA); Identify, Measure, Problem Analysis, Remedy, Operationalize, Validate, and Evaluate (IMPROVE); and Theory of Constraint (TOC). Furthermore, continuous improvement tools need to remain effective through the use of optimization techniques to produce the best possible outcomes. This article discusses some of the current utilization of these tools and proposes different optimizing techniques and variations to make robust quality implementation tools.","PeriodicalId":305774,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Applied Industrial Engineering","volume":"129 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128433601","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

CAs are defined as new decision tools that can provide people with high quality recommendations and help them make data-driven decisions to understand the environment around them. Trust is defined as the belief of people that CAs will help them reach a desired decision. An extensive review on trust in psychology, sociology, economics and policy making, organizational science, automation, and robotics was conducted to determine the factors that influence people's trust in CAs. On the basis of this review, a framework of trust determinants in people's interactions with CAs was developed where reliability, attractiveness, and emotional attachments positively influence people's trust in CAs. The framework also shows that relative advantages of innovativeness positively affect the intention to use CAs. Future research directions are suggested for developing and validating more concrete scales in measuring trust determinants in the interactions between people and CAs.","PeriodicalId":305774,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Applied Industrial Engineering","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130276657","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Model structures investigated were either capacity limited or of variable delay time, implemented in discrete and continuous transform algebras. Results indicate the absence of chaos for a continuous time model but gave limited evidence for chaos in both unrestricted discrete models and those with a positive orders only limit. The responses where interaction with the capacity limit occurred did not confirm chaotic behaviour at odds with published results. Using the Liapunov exponent as a measure of chaotic behaviour, the results indicated, where the delay varies in proportion to order rate, a larger fixed delay reduced the Liapunov exponent as did increasing the dependence of delay on order rate. The effect of the model structures showed that the IOBPCS model, produced the largest Liapunov exponent. Reducing the discrete model update time reduced the Liapunov exponent.","PeriodicalId":305774,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Applied Industrial Engineering","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123835611","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The diagnoses of breast cancer include mammograms, breast ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ductogram and biopsy. Biopsy is best and only way to know if the breast tumor is cancerous. Report says that positive detection of breast cancer through biopsy can reach as low as 10%. So many statistical techniques and cognitive science approaches like artificial intelligence are used to detect the type of breast cancer in a patient for getting more accuracy. This article presents the breast cancer classification using feed foreword neural network trained by grey wolf optimization algorithm. The superiority of the GWO-FFNN is shown by experimenting Wisconsin Hospital data set (Breast Cancer Wisconsin) and comparing recently reported results. The evaluations show that the proposed approach is very robust, effective and gives better correct classification as compared to other classifiers.","PeriodicalId":305774,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Applied Industrial Engineering","volume":"107 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114585036","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As there is a demand from both sides of the government system, i.e. citizenry and the government resulted in an increase of these projects at a rapid pace. On one hand, the government is increasing the investment but the time has come to show the justification of these investments. On the other hand, available literature is limited and hardly any concrete steps have been taken to investigate the justification and return on investment of these projects, as most of the returns are qualitative in nature. So, there is need for investigation into the issue. In this article, an attempt has been made to consolidate available literature, compare and justify using a multiciteria decision making tool, i.e. AHP and finally, a case discussion on e-governance in the education system of India.","PeriodicalId":305774,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Applied Industrial Engineering","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115693695","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Because of the various kinds of end users, the implementation of the ERP is a complex process to handle. Some of the effects of individual, technological and organisational factors are taken into consideration as in the impact of the usage upon ERP and its effect upon the end user. The results however suggests that the system functionalization supports the organisation in the functioning of the HR practices, training and development, self-dependency of employees (end users) and the compatibility factor of the end users as well. The usage of ERP has no doubt an impact upon human resources functions and operations. Because human resources involve the human capital, therefore the process of human resource management (HRM) is undergoing changes implementing various tools of technology while improving performance. The amalgamation between HRM processes with information technology being termed as electronic human resources management. (E-HRM). So, the phenomenon of E-HRM works to functionalise all operations and activities that the human resource management system dealt with. Both in terms of E-HRM and the virtual human resource management systems do not go with the same interpretations as those streamlined by Lepak and Snell's “The network founded structure built on partnerships and typically framed by networking technologies to support the organisation attain, develop and deploy intellectual capital.” It is not wrong to say that the decentralization of human resource functions is the essence of E-HRM. Those functions typically can be availed through an intranet or other web technology channel. When such facilities are provided within an organisation it helps the managers and employees empower themselves to perform the chosen HR functions themselves, relieving the HR department of those tasks. It is even foreseen that as E-HRM grows and renovates business culture, there would be changes, but the need is to be inculcated to a substantial measure.","PeriodicalId":305774,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Applied Industrial Engineering","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125149046","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since there is a rapid growth for the demand of computational power increases by scientific, business, and web-applications, it leads to the creation of large-scale data centers. These data centers consume enormous amounts of electrical power. In this article, the authors study energy saving methods by consolidation and by switching off those virtual machines which are not in use. According to this policy, c virtual machines continue serving the customer until the number of idle server attains the threshold level d; then d idle servers take synchronous vacation simultaneously, otherwise these servers would begin serving the customers. Numerical results are provided to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed model for data center management in particular, to quantify the tradeoff theoretically between the conflicting aims of energy efficiency and QoS.","PeriodicalId":305774,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Applied Industrial Engineering","volume":"96 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121961395","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Studying process flow flexibility for reducing bottlenecks has always continued to open new research avenues. This methodology has been formulated keeping in view of sequential manually executed assembly processes, where a single operator is involved, the process steps are entirely manual or semi-automated. The concept can also be extended to other scenarios by computing a process flexibility measure in terms of time, resources and methods. Essentially this article talks about the use of an algorithm for effective scheduling on assembly lines, computing the most optimal path that that the process flow could have taken given how the process has proceeded. Current activity scheduling methods tally the progress against a plan, which is ideal and does not account for unforeseen wait times. The output of the algorithm which is the most optimal approach as computed for a given scenario will help achieve rhythm and reduce wasted time in places where it's possible to avoid them. A standard tool to measure the exact amount of compressible wait time or Muda Type of waste is chosen, the overall equipment efficiency was adopted for gauging this approach. This discusses the generalization of the principle used and its formulation as an algorithm and a flow chart.","PeriodicalId":305774,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Applied Industrial Engineering","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121018457","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
