Morphological characteristics, such as skin fold thickness, limb girth and length, body weight and body fat percentage have an impact on endurance running. The objective of this systematic review study is to collect and analyze studies about the influence of morphological characteristics on running performance of endurance athletes. Based on an analysis of electronic databases and the inclusion criteria set, 20 studies were included in the analysis. The length of the extremities and the sum of the skin folds thickness have the highest statistical significance as the predictor. The results of the analyzed studies indicate that slim limbs, longer legs, lower total skin fold thickness and lower body fat percentage are some of the characteristics that can be good predictors for competitive success and a model to be tended during the preparation period of male and female endurance runners.","PeriodicalId":304543,"journal":{"name":"Facta Universitatis, Series: Physical Education and Sport","volume":"124 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134310149","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Regular companions of sports activities are sport injuries of various parts of the body, depending on the type and conditions in which sport activity is performed. In this paper, we analyzed knee injuries because they are the most dominant. The knee, which is the largest, the most complex and the most stressed joint, is most exposed to injuries. We analyzed 124 respondents who were treated in the Ribarska Banja, by physical and balneological treatment, during the period 2005-2006. Anamnestic data, as the most common cause of injury, include insufficient training, insufficient physical preparedness, rough start of an opponent or uneven terrain. The knee joint is the most commonly injured region in athletes, and because of the complexity of the joint itself, these injuries are very complicated. Balneal treatment showed positive effects on healing and accelerated return to the field. Balneo Climatic Treatment is always accompanied with certain methods of physical therapy and rehabilitation, and all of them together can accelerate healing. The successful return to the field depends on the applied therapeutic methods and on an early beginning  of therapeutic treatment.","PeriodicalId":304543,"journal":{"name":"Facta Universitatis, Series: Physical Education and Sport","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115367514","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The sample consisted of 311 selected young players (175 males and 136 females), of the ages of between 12 and 16, who had trained handball for a minimum of 3 years. They have been tested by assemblies of young representative selections of the Handball Federation of Vojvodina. Three anthropometric variables were applied (Mass, Height, BMI), 8 tests of the Eurofit battery for the evaluation of motor abilities, and 3 tests with a ball that contained basic technical elements of handball. A factorial analysis for both genders was conducted individually, in order to establish model characteristics of young handball male and female athletes. For the subsample of girls, where three qualitatively different groups existed (the national, regional and club level), a canonical analysis was also conducted. Both subsamples resulted in a bi-component structure. With boys, the first component was formed from general motor skills, and the second from physical dimensionality. With girls, both components were similarly saturated, but they had reversed hierarchy (the first factor was formed from anthropometric, and the second from motor skills variables). A boy and a girl that are distinguished from their peers by a higher physical strength and larger physical constitution were used as the typical model of beginner handball players. In the sub-sample of girls, two canonical factors were gained, but neither was significantly discriminable. The Eurofit battery of tests did not prove to be discriminatory enough in the selection of young handball players.","PeriodicalId":304543,"journal":{"name":"Facta Universitatis, Series: Physical Education and Sport","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122919027","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The sample of participants consisted of 103 obese children (63 girls and 40 boys), first grade students (mean age 7.04 years) of elementary schools in Nis. The following fitness parameters were measured: HR in load, VO2max (ml), HR in peace, bend forward - bend backward - throw test, hand taping, 20m dash with a standing start, Abalakov test and forward bend on the bench test. Morphological characteristics were determined by measuring 13 parameters of longitudinal and transversal dimensions of skeleton, volume and body mass, as well as subcutaneous fat tissue. Canonical correlation analysis was used to determine the relations between the set of variables representing fitness parameters and the set of variables of morphological characteristics. Based on the coefficients of canonical correlation analysis, it can be concluded that the spaces of morphological characteristics and fitness parameters are interconnected with two pairs of statistically significant canonical factors (p˂.05 and p˂.01). The general analysis of the relationships between the first pair of canonical factors suggests that subjects with higher circular dimensionalities of the body, accentuated adiposity and body mass tend to have poorer results in motoring tasks requiring body flexibility, explosive leg strength and running speed, and also have poorer results in the parameters of cardiorespiratory fitness. It can be concluded that obesity in young school age has negative implications on the fitness parameters in children, and therefore on their overall growth and development.","PeriodicalId":304543,"journal":{"name":"Facta Universitatis, Series: Physical Education and Sport","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125255423","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The experiment was carried out on a top judo team of 9 competitors in a 4-week training period. The distribution of training loads ranged between the anaerobic threshold and maximum oxygen consumption. In four weeks of training, the judokas significantly improved their results for maximum oxygen consumption (VO2max) from 2% to 15%, maximum relative oxygen consumption (VO2rel) from 2% to 16%, the Cooper test (K) from 2% to 15% and the speed at which the maximum amount of oxygen (vVO2max) is expended, from 2% to 15%. The judokas started from 64% to 83% of their genetic capacity in maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max), from 64% to 83% in maximum relative oxygen consumption (VO2rel) and 70% to 85% of the capacity at which they consumed the maximum amount of oxygen (vVO2max). After 4 weeks of training, 72% to 91% of the genetic capacity of maximum oxygen consumption (VO2max) ranged from 74% to 92% of the maximum relative oxygen consumption (VO2rel) and from 78% to 93% of the genetically projected capacity at the maximum amount of oxygen rate (vVO2max). In order to achieve these results, the judokas had to expend 943.80 to 1887.71 liters of oxygen ((∑VO2) to cross a distance ((∑ DT) from 67523.0 m to 102386.0 m and consume from 4719 to 9438.55 kilocalories ((∑ kcal).","PeriodicalId":304543,"journal":{"name":"Facta Universitatis, Series: Physical Education and Sport","volume":"114 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130500483","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As most COD tests use total time to measure COD performance, the COD deficit has been developed as a metric to isolate COD ability independent of linear sprint speed. This study investigated relationships between sprint time, 505 time, and COD deficit in collegiate women’s rugby union players. Seventeen players from the one team performed a 20-m sprint (0-5, 0-10, and 0-20 m intervals were measured), and the 505 from each leg. The COD deficit for both legs was calculated as the difference between average 505 and 10-m time. Correlations were calculated between the 505 and COD deficit with the sprint intervals (p ≤ 0.05). To compare 505 time and COD deficit, z-scores were derived; the difference in these scores were evaluated for each participant. The COD deficit did not correlate with the sprint interval times (r = -0.370 to -0.045). Right-leg 505 time did correlate with the 0-10 and 0-20 m intervals (r = 0.483-552). Six of 17 participants for the left leg, and five of 17 for the right leg, were classified differently for COD ability when comparing standardized scores for 505 time versus COD deficit. More than half the participants (53-59%) had meaningful differences between 505 time and COD deficit for each leg. These results suggested that the COD deficit may be a more isolated measure of COD ability and provided a different measure of this ability compared to 505 time in collegiate women’s rugby union players.","PeriodicalId":304543,"journal":{"name":"Facta Universitatis, Series: Physical Education and Sport","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131253489","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The goal of the research is to determine the predictive values of psychological characteristics in the competitive selection of karatekas. In relation to the subject matter and goals of the research, as well as studies carried out so far, a hypothesis has been formulated: significant differences exist in goal orientation between karatekas of various competitive orientation. The study included 79 karatekas, 12 to 14 years old, 37 of whom are competitors in bouts, 23 of whom practice katas, and 19 respondents who take part in both disciplines. In order to evaluate the motivational orientation, we used the Task and Ego Orientation in Sport Questionnaire (TEOSQ), designed by Duda & Nicholls. This study was performed on a sample of 56 healthy preschool girls that were divided into two groups, a developmental training group and a control group. Motor fitness tests were used from several test batteries: the 20m dash, Obstacle course backwards, Standing broad jump, Arm plate tapping, Seated straddle stretch, Bent arm hang, Sit ups. The basic characteristics of developmental gymnastic training process consisted of station and circuit work and obstacle courses two times a week lasting for 60 min with intensity around 160-180bpm. After the training intervention, the training group showed significant (p < 0.05) improvements in almost all the parameters analyzed (e.g., Obstacle course backwards; Standing broad jump; Arm plate tapping; Bent arm hang and Sit ups) compared with pretest values, with percentages of change and ES ranging from 13.3% to 48.2% and 0.64 (moderate) to 1.20 (large), respectively. No significant changes were observed in the control group after the training intervention except for the standing broad jump and arm plate tapping (p < 0.05).
