In this study, we investigate the effects of sodium and potassium channels blockage and the average degree of connectivity on the spontaneous collective firing regularity on scale-free network which consisting of stochastic HH neurons. The obtained results reveal that potassium channel blockage has constructive effects on the firing regularity whereas sodium channel blockage has disruptive effects on the firing regularity. On the other hand, the spontaneous firing regularity exhibits coherence resonance depending on both the channel blockage scaling factor and the neuronal membrane area. The results also indicate that there is a lower boundary for the average degree of the network connectivity where the coherence resonance exists when the value of the network connectivity is greater than this lower boundary.","PeriodicalId":301397,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Symposium on Innovations in Intelligent Systems and Applications","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116746718","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The alignment of unknown face images with templates generally improves the performance of the face recognition system, and this process uses locations of the eyes and mouth. In this work, we compare different features (gray-level values, distance transform features, gradients and local binary patterns) for automatic localization of eyes and mouth. To this end, we use the sliding window approach using the linear and nonlinear support vector machine (SVM) classifiers. We created new frontal face data sets to train and test our algorithms. The experimental results show that the SVM classifier using the Gaussian kernel yields better results than the linear kernel. Among the four feature extraction methods, the performance of the local binary pattern features draws the attention for having better detection rates in both the linear and the nonlinear cases with smaller feature size.","PeriodicalId":301397,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Symposium on Innovations in Intelligent Systems and Applications","volume":"85 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134100074","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The integrated drive scheme is fully stabilized using a novel FACTS based green filter compensator developed by the Second Author that ensures stabilized DC bus voltage, minimal inrush current conditions and load excursions when load demand exceeds the Nickel-Metal-Hydrid cell battery capacity. The paper presents a Modified Tri-loop PID controller to control the DC/DC converter, Green Plug Filter Compensator GPFC scheme using dynamic error tracking. This paper presents also the dual regulation Modified PID Tri-loop controller for a Nickel-Metal-Hydrid cell battery powered four-wheel drive electric vehicle. A Tri-Loop dynamic error driven control scheme is proposed to regulate the DC motor current, limit inrush current and power speed overloading conditions, in addition to motor dynamic speed reference tracking. A type B Dual DC/DC converter is employed to match and control the power transfer from the Nickel-Metal-Hydrid cell battery to the PMDC motors load. Although there is some globally accepted positioning systems (e.g., GPS, GLONASS) for outdoor environments, there is not such a system for indoor. In this study, an ultrasonic based positioning system (SESKON) is developed especially for indoor robotic applications. The SESKON uses only ultrasonic signals, so it differs from other positioning systems that are developed for indoor. The SESKON uses Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA) technique for position calculation. TDOA is preferred since it does not require clock synchronization between receiver and transmitters. Tests are conducted to show the effectiveness of the developed SESKON system.","PeriodicalId":301397,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Symposium on Innovations in Intelligent Systems and Applications","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131518874","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Meteorological parameters used to estimate daily pan evaporation from Lake Eğirdir at the southwestern part of Turkey are air temperature (T<inf>a</inf>), water temperature (T<inf>w</inf>), solar radiation (R<inf>C</inf>) and relative humidity (R<inf>h</inf>). The GEP and RBFN models are developed by using different input combinations with these four parameters. The GEP model with T<inf>a</inf>, T<inf>w</inf>, R<inf>C</inf> and R<inf>h</inf> parameters has the highest R<sup>2</sup> (0.812) and the lowest MSE (0.0066 mm/day) values for testing set. The R<sup>2</sup> value of the best RBFN model is obtained as 0.794 with T<inf>a</inf> T<inf>w</inf> and R<inf>h</inf>. It can be seen that the GEP model was slightly more superior to the RBFN model. It is concluded from the results that GEP and RBFN can be proposed as an alternative to daily pan evaporation measurement.","PeriodicalId":301397,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Symposium on Innovations in Intelligent Systems and Applications","volume":"120 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133471229","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main difficulties in modelling pressurised, fluid pipelines arise from the complex interactions involving boundary conditions, reflections and non-linear behaviour. This paper presents a new method of modelling pipeline systems that provides an accurate transient response of the system incorporating a frequency-dependent fluid friction term. The modelling method employed is based upon distributed-lumped parameter modelling techniques which enable the inclusion of a wide variety of non-linear effects. The model comprises a distributed element representing the pressure and flow rate through out the length of the pipeline and a lumped element that represents the boundary conditions at the pipeline exit. The simulation results for the system are compared with experimental data validating thereby the analytical procedures proposed.","PeriodicalId":301397,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Symposium on Innovations in Intelligent Systems and Applications","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132661241","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Though fraud prevention mechanisms such as CHIP&PIN are developed, these mechanisms do not prevent the most common fraud types such as fraudulent credit card usages over virtual POS terminals through Internet or mail orders. As a result, fraud detection is the essential tool and probably the best way to stop such fraud types. In this study, classification models based on Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) and Logistic Regression (LR) are developed and applied on credit card fraud detection problem.
