In a study of patient-reported chemotherapy side effects, diarrhea was the second most common side effect reported after fatigue.In response to a patient’s diarrhea, a treating physician may reduce a therapeutic dose or discontinue the cancer therapy altogether, potentially worsening patient outcomes. Specifically, patients with cancer and diarrhea are 40% more likely to discontinue their cancer therapy Furthermore, the cost of care for patients with cancer and diarrhea is estimated to be nearly 2.9 times higher than for patients with cancer without diarrhea.","PeriodicalId":301285,"journal":{"name":"Onco Zine - The International Oncology Network","volume":" 16","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141833927","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there are numerous challenges that limit the therapeutic efficacy of CAR T-cells in the treatment of solid tumors and hematological malignancies. Among the barriers to of these therapies are severe life-threatening toxicities, possible side effects such as cytokine release syndrome, modest anti-tumor activity, antigen escape, restricted trafficking, and limited tumor infiltration. To overcome the limitations, scientists have produced so called Co-stimulatory Synthetic T-cell receptor and Antigen Receptor or Co-STAR cells.","PeriodicalId":301285,"journal":{"name":"Onco Zine - The International Oncology Network","volume":"9 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141658820","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the European Union, the definition narrows down to 5 in 10,000 people, while in the United States, a rare disease is defined as a condition that affects fewer than 200,000 people. By these definitions there are more than 6800 (“Rare Diseases”) rare diseases. While the exact cause for most rare diseases are not known, several of these are usually traced to mutations in a single gene, which would essentially be passed down from one generation to the next. That is the reason we see these rare diseases running in families.","PeriodicalId":301285,"journal":{"name":"Onco Zine - The International Oncology Network","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127781231","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data is a formalized representation of information suitable for communication, interpretation, or processing, according to ISO/IEC 2382:2015. But while we have made giant strides in our understanding of the disease, the current approach to biomarker development is still simplistic and fragmented, limiting our ability to understand the underlying biology of the patient’s cancer, tailor treatment to individual patients, monitor treatment response, detect early signs of relapse, and identify potential new targets for therapy.
