A multivariate control chart is used to detect changes in multiple variables. Ueno and Nagata (2018) proposed a multivariate exponentially weighted moving likelihood (MEWML) control chart aimed at detecting minor changes in the mean vector and variance-covariance matrix. Although the MEWML control chart can accurately detect the change when the variance increases, it is unable to detect the change when it decreases. A reduction in variance implies that the procedure is moving to a better state. Therefore, detecting the change can lead to an improvement in the procedure. In this paper, we detect reductions in variance by considering both the upper and lower control limits. Through a simulation, we demonstrate that reduction in variance can be detected by using the lower control limit.","PeriodicalId":301168,"journal":{"name":"Total Quality Science","volume":"134 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125805708","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Comprehensive description of main effects and interactions in Plackett Burman design","authors":"Yo Oishi, S. Yamada","doi":"10.17929/TQS.6.43","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.17929/TQS.6.43","url":null,"abstract":": Plackett Burman designs are used to estimate main effects because the columns assigned main effects are mutually orthogonal. However, correlations between estimates of a main effect column and a two-factor interaction column are not orthogonal in general. There are variations in the magnitude of correlation depending on the size of Plackett Burman design. For example, correlation coefficients between a main effect and a two-factor interaction are either 0 or ± 0.33 in Plackett Burman design N=12. However, most of them are ± 0.2 and some of them are 0.6 in Plackett Burman design N=20. When a correlation coefficient between main effects and two-factor interactions is significantly large, analysis results may be depart from the true status. Therefore, in this study, we comprehensively describe correlation coefficients between a main effect and a two-factor interaction for all designs proposed by the Plackett and Burman designs such that N=8,...,100. In addition, for designs that have large correlation coefficients, they are classified according to how to construct a design table and examined in detail. We describe certain rules in combination of a main effect and a two-factor interaction with large correlation coefficient. We also show how to construct designs that avoids large correlation based on the rules. University. He teaches applied statistics and quality management at undergraduate and graduate schools. In order to derive the tendency of dependency pairs which means defect phenomena, dependency parsing and BM 25 are applied for the analysis. From results of calculating occurrence and BM 25 score for pairs of dependency words and modified words, some tendencies are found in each of high score’s pairs. For the analysis of recall information, correspondence analysis, co-occurrence network and self-organizing map are conducted to find the relational words between three categories of defect factor. Twelve primary factors of five parts are shown as the factors in fuel device which causes liquid leakage. Finally, factors of important defect phenomena is discussed. Several dependency pairs are shown as important defect phenomena, and primary factors of parts are shown as an example of factors of liquid leakage which is one of them.","PeriodicalId":301168,"journal":{"name":"Total Quality Science","volume":"64 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-02-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128492653","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By using a design with high 𝐷𝐷 optimality level, we can estimate parameters accurately under the assumed model. However, it should be noted that there exists bias in the estimator if active factors and their interactions are not included in the model. In order to reduce the bias of estimators caused by not incorporating active two-factor interactions in the model, we construct experimental design considering both accuracy and robustness against the existence of interactions. This research constructs robust fractional factorial design against the existence of two-factor interactions by distributing low level of confounding on two-factor interactions into main effects. New designs considering robustness and accuracy are obtained by multiple criteria optimization with this new criterion of robustness and 𝐷𝐷 𝑓𝑓 criterion that is a sort of 𝐷𝐷 -optimality. Various algorithms for constructing optimal designs have been proposed such as 𝑘𝑘 exchange and coordinate exchange. This study use the column wise-pairwise algorithm because of the advantage that it can be applied to supersaturated design. Also, we carry out multiple criteria optimization with reference to the method proposed by a previous study. In this way, we obtained 16×15 and 12×16 design matrixes, which is more robust to the existence of two-factor interactions than the conventional design.","PeriodicalId":301168,"journal":{"name":"Total Quality Science","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121609591","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Degradation over time is often modeled by stochastic processes to account for inherent randomness. Based on the assumption of additive accumulation of degradation, a family of degradation stochastic processes based on the Lévy process (the Wiener, gamma and inverse Gaussian (IG) processes are members of this family of processes) has been well studied in the literature. Recently, degradation stochastic model based on the generalized inverse Gaussian distribution was provided. This model is a generalization of the prominent existing degradation models in a sense, under the mild conditions. In this study, we propose a stochastic degradation model based on the Birnbaum-Saunders (BS) distribution. The BS distribution can be obtained as an approximation of an IG distribution. The BS distribution is proposed as the fatigue failure life distribution based on a physical consideration. The maximum likelihood estimation of the proposed model is also developed. Four case applications are performed to demonstrate the advantages of the proposed model, based on the well-known real degradation data sets of the GaAs laser devices and crack sizes of three kinds of specimens, and also a simulation study is conducted.","PeriodicalId":301168,"journal":{"name":"Total Quality Science","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125455067","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this situation, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare is promoting the establishment of an Integrated Community Care System that can appropriately provide various daily life support services. This system requires cooperation of relevant organizations such as hospitals, nursing facilities, and pharmacies in an area. In order to measure the state of cooperation and identify the issues in establishing the Integrated Community Care System, a questionnaire survey is executed to these organizations. However, there is no clarity on an appropriate design of the questionnaire survey, which can accurately identify the issues. As a result, there were problems with the conventional questionnaire survey, and thus, the results obtained by the conventional questionnaire survey cannot be utilized to identify such issues. The purpose of this study is to propose a design method of the questionnaire survey, which can identify issues accurately. First, we analyzed the conventional questionnaire and survey results to clarify problems. Thereafter, we considered the measures to overcome these problems and proposed an appropriate design for questionnaire survey. We confirmed that the questionnaire was improved by the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":301168,"journal":{"name":"Total Quality Science","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-03-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122988653","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

CMs are expected to create and nurture the best image of the company and the products among consumers, and to promote the purchasing activities of consumers through consumer viewing. However, these effects are difficult to produce without strategies. CMs should be designed with the appropriate concept and content. Therefore, there is a need to recognize what stimulates the psychological change in consumers leading to purchase activity: that is, the physical change of recognizing the item and buying the item. Subsequently, and the element(s) of the physical change should be analyzed to shed light on the appropriate target consumers for designing CMs. In this study, we focus on a popular yogurt brand in Japan called “Meiji’s Purobio yogurt R-1”, analyzing the psychological change in consumers attributed to CMs on TV based on the attributes of 3,000 consumers’ data and their TV browsing history. For grasping the psychological state of consumers, we apply the attention, interest, desire, action, satisfaction model and define the consumers’ five psychological states based on questionnaire data. The factors of CMs with effects on consumers in each psychological state are clarified using two clustering approaches.","PeriodicalId":301168,"journal":{"name":"Total Quality Science","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133218143","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Control charts make it possible to effectively manage the manufacturing process but it assumes the availability of large historical data sets. In the high-mix, low-volume production environment that has become a mainstream in recent years, sufficient samples for estimating process parameters cannot be obtained often. In such a situation, the control chart does not function properly. In addition, in manufacturing processes such as cutting, process averages can change due to deterioration even if the process operates in the in-control state, leading to type I error increases. Therefore, herein, we use hierarchical Bayesian modeling to propose control charts that function appropriately for trendy data sets in high-mix, low-volume production. We then show the usefulness of such an approach by comparing with a conventional method. Since hierarchical Bayesian modeling makes it possible to assume the same distribution for parameters of various types, it is possible to use all the information to estimate parameters comprehensively. This capability makes the new approach effective for high-mix, low-volume production. proposes control charts based on hierarchical Bayesian modeling for trendy data sets in a high-mix, low-volume production.
