{"title":"Charles Adams and the Controversy over Use of the Woman’s College Library in Segregated North Carolina","authors":"Erin Lawrimore","doi":"10.3776/NCL.V71I1.388","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.3776/NCL.V71I1.388","url":null,"abstract":"On November 13, 1950, \u0000Edward Kidder Graham \u0000Jr., the recently installed \u0000chancellor at the Woman’s College \u0000of the University of North Carolina \u0000in Greensboro, (now the University \u0000of North Carolina at Greensboro), \u0000wrote a letter to his administrative \u0000counterparts at Bennett College \u0000and North Carolina Agricultural \u0000and Technical College, both African \u0000American institutions of higher learning \u0000also in Greensboro. In the letter, \u0000he issued an open invitation for these \u0000leaders as well as other faculty members \u0000and student body representatives \u0000to attend the upcoming Harriet \u0000Elliott Social Science Forum titled \u0000“Public Opinion in a Democracy.” \u0000Graham stated that “the round table \u0000sessions on Friday afternoon are for \u0000faculty and student representatives \u0000of participating institutions, and all \u0000seats are open to all delegates at these \u0000round table sessions. Librarians at ECU’s Joyner Library have collaborated with Project STEPP since 2010 to provide library instruction for the program’s students. In the course of our collaboration, we have considered principles of Universal Design for Learning and the special needs of students with learning disabilities in library instruction.
