So trifft auch der Konsument in Deutschland immer häufiger auf die beiden Einzelhändler aus Japan. Seit April 2014 hat Uniqlo hierzulande neun Ladengeschäfte eröffnet, alleine sechs davon befinden sich in der deutschen Hauptstadt. Seit November 2005 dagegen ist Muji vertreten und zeigt mit seinen sieben Geschäften an fünf Standorten, gemessen an der Filialanzahl, eine bisher noch geringfügig kleinere Präsenz. Das Kerngeschäft von Uniqlo liegt im Verkauf von Modeartikeln und Accessoires, Muji vertreibt eine große Auswahl an Alltagsprodukten, Bekleidung und Einrichtungsgegenständen.
