The time range approach was proposed to capture the notion of time imprecision in event occurrence. According to this concept, efficient time range constraint reasoning techniques were developed for embedding domain knowledge in a deep level constraint model. The imprecision in these events contributes to a certain degree of uncertainty in the correctness of a microprocessor system operation. A knowledge based diagnostic system for microprocessor systems design was designed and developed. The system performs worst case timing analysis. In particular, for the asynchronous bus operation of the MC68000 microprocessor, the sequence of events during a read cycle was traced through an inference process to determine if any constraint in the model was violated Although satisfactory results were obtained, the possibility measures implicitly embedded within time ranges were not properly quantified for effective temporal reasoning. To overcome this shortcoming, the fuzzy time point model is proposed. The original time range representation, specified by two crisp interval end points, is replaced by the fuzzy time point representation that is specified by a single fuzzy value. The degree of fuzziness of a fuzzy time point has dependency on the functional specification of the corresponding timing parameter. An approach which integrates measures of achievement in these three areas has been lacking in the past. It is argued that the combination of multiple criteria decision making (MCDM) and fuzzy logic provides a promising theoretical framework for the evaluation of alternative farming systems. Three well-known MCDM methods are described to illustrate a range of problems that may arise using conventional MCDM methods. These problems include: (1) the treatment of noncommensurate units; (2) the ranking procedure for a solution; and, (3) the degree of discrimination between attribute values, and, hence alternatives. Neural network technology is utilized in the real time identification of the mode of vibration of any structural system under seismic loading. The parallel processing nature of neural networks fit the nature of multi degree of freedom systems. Such a property would result in considering the whole structure and eliminating the need for problem reduction. The proposed mode identifier is a multilayer neural network. The pattern identification process is considered a state evaluation stage that is required as a first step in the development of a fuzzy neural active controller. In order to attain best performance, cache memories have to be managed either with hardware support or compiler support. The compiler approach makes use of specialized cache memory management instructions to generate an optimal management. This is done by generating an optimal scheduling of these specialized instructions for the program being compiled. Up to now, conservative approaches have been used to tackle this issue despite the occurrence of unpredictable real time events and the fact that many variables are imprecise. This explains the unstable performances of these algorithms varying from excellent to very poor. The response of the SLP system is so slow that it is difficult to maintain an optimal open canal level by manual or two step pump speed control operation and to reduce overflow of seawater. The objective of this paper is to apply the fuzzy control method, which can utilize the flexibility and the heuristic operation strategy employed by operators, to SLP system in fossil fired power plant. In order to verify a proposed fuzzy system, we developed simplified models such as mathematical model of SLP, CWP, seawater level and intake canal. The result of the simulation test shows that the proposed fuzzy control method can reflect successfully the experience gained in skilled manual operation. It is suitable for on-line training or on-line adaptive fuzzy control systems. With the parameters of the triangle or trapezoid membership functions and the number to be fuzzified as the inputs, it automatically calculated the proper membership values for the fuzzy control systems. The chip is designed with a standard cell approach and implemented in the MOSIS CMOS 2 /spl mu/m technology. For 4-bit inputs, there are 1,744 transistors in the chip and the size of the chip is 1,515 /spl mu/m by 1,088 /spl mu/m.
