Building on Ryan LaMothe's work, the author posits that the criminalization of Mexican people can be understood as a contemporary case of disidentification. The author argues that one way of counteracting this disidentification is to accompany people of color with compassion and a spirit of solidarity. To illustrate his point, he reflects on his own case as a graduate student of color and on the significance of his relationships with his mentor, Robert C. Dykstra.","PeriodicalId":29885,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pastoral Theology","volume":"30 1","pages":"20 - 34"},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2020-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/10649867.2020.1719685","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41582946","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The author focuses on four theoretical constructs gleaned from Cannon’s work – ‘Asking the Question – Who is God? and the Appreciation of the Question’, ‘Womanist Reframing – Challenging Patriarchal Analytical Frameworks’, ‘Conscientization – The Importance of Self and the Significance of Resistance’, and the importance of ‘Telling the Story’. Using the metaphor of a Black Butterfly, the article reminds us of the legacy left by Dr Katie Cannon and the important womanist ethical tenet of ‘responsibility’ in the generative justice theology’s responsible work noted as a Grand Metamorphosis.","PeriodicalId":29885,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pastoral Theology","volume":"29 1","pages":"169 - 179"},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2019-09-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/10649867.2019.1673026","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43774300","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Justes left a lasting legacy in the field of practical theology. Her work embraced issues of personal care and social justice. As a scholar, she advocated for an inclusive theological anthropology that embraced partnership and mutual interdependence. She challenged traditional sex-defined roles in mainline Protestant traditions and taught pastors and theologians to listen to the marginalized voices present in every community. Her life and scholarship will be remembered for her compassionate mode of hospitality and her bold embrace of difference.","PeriodicalId":29885,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pastoral Theology","volume":"29 1","pages":"145 - 150"},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2019-09-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/10649867.2019.1699354","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"59703801","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
