Registry reports are printed every year as a booklet, and this is the 30th year of registry reports. Unlike previous years, registry reports include an additional chapter this year due to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). The effects and results of the COVID-19 pandemic on kidney replacement therapies are presented in the 2020 reports. Methods: In this article, we obtained data from the Turkish Society of Nephrology 2020 registry report and summarized the coronavirus disease 2019-associated data and statistics for kidney failure with replacement therapy patients. Results: The number of patients on kidney replacement therapies was 83 350 individuals at the end of 2020. Totally, 1610 kidney replacement therapy patients were infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. Hemodialysis had the highest frequency of coronavirus disease 2019 (19.5%), followed by transplantation (12.2%) and peritoneal dialysis (8.6%). The mortality rate was highest in peritoneal dialysis patients with 29.6%, 24.4% in hemodialysis, and 11.2% in kidney transplant recipients. Conclusions: Coronavirus disease 2019 has significant effects on the survey of patients undergoing kidney replacement therapies through severe complications. © 2022 Turkish Society of Nephrology. However, though it is very rare, it should be kept in mind that coronavirus disease 2019 infection might be complicated by thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura, resulting in severe thrombocytopenia which makes heparin use contraindicated. The complications of thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura have been elucidated after this pandemic infection. We report a case of acquired thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura due to late hematological manifestation of coronavirus disease 2019 infection. A 47-year-old male patient who developed microangiopathic hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, and acute kidney injury (stage 3) with macroalbuminuria was diagnosed with thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura based on very low plasma ADAMTS13 activity and borderline ADAMTS13 inhibitor level 4 weeks after coronavirus disease 2019 infection detected by positive nucleic acid amplification test (reverse-transc ription polymerase chain reaction). Coronavirus disease 2019 infection usually leads to thrombotic events, making it necessary to treat it with low-molecular-weight heparin. However, even though it is very rare, it should be kept in mind that coronavirus disease 2019 infection might be complicated by thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura, resulting in severe thrombocytopenia, which makes heparin use contraindicated. This is the first case reporting the appearance of stage 3 acute kidney injury in thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura due to coronavirus disease 2019 infection after a window period of 1 month and successful treatment with only steroids. © 2022 Turkish Society of Nephrology. The occurrence of acute kidney injury ranges from 0.5% to 80% across various studies. This study was conducted to know the kidney manifestation of coronavirus disease-2019 in the south Indian population and its association with severity of disease. Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study that assessed coronavirus disease-2019-positive patients admitted from September 1, 2020, to October 31, 2020. Data were collected by accessing electronic medical records. Proteinuria and hematuria were assessed by dipstick. Lab data including serum creatinine were noted. Creatinine on 7 ± 2, 14 ± 4, and 45 ± 15 (after discharge) days was captured. Descriptive analysis was done in frequency and proportions for categorical variables and mean and standard deviation for continuous variables. Chi-square test was used to compare kidney manifestations based on the severity of coronavirus disease-2019. Kruskal–Wallis and Mann–Whitney tests were used to compare mean values of different inflammatory markers and severity of coronavirus disease-2019, acute kidney injury, proteinuria, and hematuria. Results: A total of 1561 patients admitted during the study period were screened. After exclusion criteria, 426 patients were enrolled. The occurrence of acute kidney injury was 14.8%. Proteinuria was seen in 75 patients (17.6%) and hematuria in 39 patients (9.15 %);47.5% of patients with acute kidney injury, 45.9 % with proteinuria, and 34.4 % with hematuria had severe coronavirus disease-2019 illness. The recovery of acute kidney injury at a mean duration of 45 ± 15 days post-discharge was 83.63 %. Conclusion: Kidney involvement is not uncommon in patients with coronavirus disease-2019. The presence of acute kidney injury, proteinuria, and/or hematuria is associated with increased mortality among patients hospitalized with coronavirus disease-2019. © 2022 Turkish Society of Nephrology.
