However, research on risk and protective factors is lacking in sexual minority youth. In this study, we aimed to identify novel risk and protective factors for suicide attempt using machine learning decision tree method.METHODS: The French cross-sectional study Portraits d’adolescents included 14,265 aged 13-20 years old adolescents. Decision tree algorithm was used to predict SA and to compare the different risk and protective factors between sexual minority youth and heterosexual peers.RESULTS: Twenty predictive factors were identified among the 70 survey fields output from the predictive modeling for SA. Substance consumptions were among the top risk factors for SA. Parental support was an important protective factor among all adolescents regardless of sexual orientation. Interestingly, through the decision tree, real-life friend support was found protective in heterosexual youth, online friend support was a protective factor in homosexual adolescents.CONCLUSIONS: Using the decision tree-based algorithm, we not only verified those important protective factors that were demonstrated in existing studies, but also discovered novel protective and attributive factors, such as real-life and online friend support. We urge that social networks should be optimized to provide safety and support for the sexual minority adolescents.","PeriodicalId":29829,"journal":{"name":"Minerva Psychiatry","volume":"96 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135185419","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However it is evident that this period has contributed to increase the risks connected to the inappropriate use of digital devices. The aim of our study is to demonstrate how the COVID-19 pandemic and the consequent lockdown had an impact on children's use of digital devices. METHOD(S): One hundred and thirty children aged between six and 18 from Montalto di Castro were recruited in the study carried out in November 2020. All participants were asked to fill in two identical questionnaires: questions of the first questionnaire were related to the pre-lockdown period, while questions of the second questionnaire were related to the period between March and November 2020. RESULT(S): The average age of the 130 participants was 11.8+/-2 years. The amount of time spent by using digital devices is significantly lower in the pre-lockdown period than in the lockdown period (P<0.02). The smartphone addiction index is significantly lower in the pre-lockdown period (P<0.001). The analysis of headaches in the early morning hours - considered as one of the effects deriving from the use of the smartphone before sleeping - showed a statistically significant difference between the two groups (P<0.05). There are also significant differences related to physical activity and its frequency, with data showing the increase of children who did not perform physical activity (P<0.0001). CONCLUSION(S): This study does not only show a constant increase over time of the smartphone/tablet use, but also how the pandemic and social restrictions have worsened the phenomenon itself. This is particularly evident for the duration of exposure to screens, the addiction to smartphones, the quality of sleep and the practice of physical activity.Copyright © 2021 EDIZIONI MINERVA MEDICA.","PeriodicalId":29829,"journal":{"name":"Minerva Psychiatry","volume":"309 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2023-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79935859","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The case involves a 65-year-old male shift nurse who took SARS-COV-2 infection through a co-worker and that had been hospitalized for interstitial pneumonia from April 6 to April 17. After recovery, he developed psychiatric symptoms overlapping between different dimensions of psychiatric disorders and started to be followed by the Occupational Health Department of a Major University Hospital in central Italy. He reported a score of 28 at the Peritraumatic Distress Inventory and of 39 at the Self-Rating Anxiety State. He was treated with a combination therapy of SSRI and NaSSA antidepressants with clinical remission. In this case study, authors discuss the possible overlapping role of post-traumatic stress and anxiety symptoms in patients discharged after COVID-19 hospitalization that may deserve appropriate classification, treatment and follow up with the future goal to refine clinical management of post and long COVID syndromes of subjects who present low abnormalities in other specialty investigations.Copyright © 2022 EDIZIONI MINERVA MEDICA.","PeriodicalId":29829,"journal":{"name":"Minerva Psychiatry","volume":"20 6 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2023-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78034679","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
