Authors from different study fields have recognised the multiple possibilities of video games for language learning and for interdisciplinary use. Education can benefit from the potential of these artefacts if properly integrated into the educational process. This article describes a language learning experience based on electronic games – of the ARCADE type. This research has been carried out in order to study the learning of vocabulary, grammar and other school curriculum in Portuguese and French classes, both in Elementary and Vocational Education. The results show that video games have a positive impact on motivation for learning and cognitive development. Students’ perceptions show that ARCADE games were helpful in improving vocabulary and language skills. Interest in these games was the same for boys and girls, however further studies are needed. The data was obtained through questionnaire and provided by a sample of undergraduates. We reflected on the concept of digital educational resource and presented the results of a study assessing the importance given by undergraduates to digital educational resources as well as their classification as a support to learning concerning aspects associated with learning strategies, motivation and learning tasks. We used research methodologies associated with both the quantitative and the qualitative paradigms. The results showed the existence of significant differences, between the 1st and the 2nd year students regarding the item study alone. The same one focuses on the attention as cognitive process of renewed format, linked to the learning, from tools of the Platform Learning Management System (LMS), of two matters of the Bachelor in Computer Science and Software Engineering of the University. The methodological design applied is mixed, called DexPlis, of quantitative and qualitative phases. It is important for teachers, learners and other educational agents to think of themselves as co-learners in a social collective aware of their role in developing the skills and knowledge they need to function in today’s world. In this paper we present partial data from a case study conducted to analyse the contribution of social web tools for knowledge construction in a post-graduation course. We describe the context of the study and the methodology adopted, followed by a description and discussion of the results. Data used for the purpose of this paper were collected through a questionnaire and a focus group, and results presented relate to the development of relevant competences and attitudes for teaching practice. Results suggest that the use of social web tools can contribute to the creation of personalized learning environments, in which the development of skills related to the social, technological and professional spheres can be supported. As the videos will be shared in public displays, the Portuguese research team developed three workshops with twelve teachers from a Portuguese Secondary School representing different school departments and sharing organizational responsibilities. The aim was to generate scenarios of possible features and interaction for the curricular integration of the technological device. Our findings suggest that teachers are not motivated to use, on their own, technologies in the classroom, but receptive to new and challenging technologies when properly stimulated. They were able to generate scenarios that take advantage of the possibilities offered by digital public displays to stimulate learning processes. It gathered data regarding various aspects of 1:1 computing from 145 pre-service teachers at a public university in USA. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were applied in data analysis. Findings show that pre-service teachers consider the use of 1:1 computing in the classroom changes interactions between instructors and students. The positive influence includes enhanced communication and providing medium for presenting materials. Significant difference was found in time spent using 1:1 computing in varied types of settings (F(3,576)=37.70, p<.05). They include: how to adapt content/activities to learner´s specific needs; how to plan corrective feedback; how to fit teaching-learning-assessment techniques to a specific educational context; how to choose the educational tools more appropriate to a teaching-learning-assessment method; how to choose a language to express a pedagogical model; how to adequate the teaching-learning-assessment activities deployment to a specific educational format (distance, face-to-face or blending learning). Currently, educators, teachers included, are faced with those questions and therefore the development of teaching-learning systems is vital to help them in the design of learning situations in order to alleviate their burden in preparing lessons or teaching-learning activities. This paper presents an overview of a set of mechanisms that can help educators taking informed decisions when designing teaching-learning scenarios. To this end, a survey of the most relevant computer-based teaching-learning systems since 1960 along with developments in the learning and the instruction domains are presented. In addition, reflections on educational material design, teaching-learning activities more specifically, are also introduced. Those considerations aim at bridging the gap between relevant theoretical aspects and the teachers’ daily activities in the design of teaching-learning scenarios. The use of online information services in post-secondary education has led to dramatic changes in faculty teaching methods as well as in the learning and study behavior of students. At the same time, traditional information media, such as textbooks and printed handouts, still form the basic pillars of teaching and learning. This paper reports the results of a survey about media usage in teaching and learning conducted with Western University students and instructors, highlighting trends in the usage of new and traditional media in higher education by instructors and students. In addition, the survey comprises part of an international research program in which 20 universities from 10 countries are currently participating. This is due to recent development in mobile technology and its use in supporting educational and instructional activities. The efficacy of creating instructional contents still serves as a major confrontation for educators at all institutions in all spheres of education. The main objective of this project is to integrate the use of mobile technology with instructional content retrieval to improve teaching and learning. In this paper, we have developed a mobile application for content retrieval in mobile learning. This application is linked to a repository where instructional contents reside. This approach would help students access instructional contents anywhere away from their regular learning environment using their mobile device. Students would also have access to an E-learning website whose database would also serve as a repository to the mobile application. The effectiveness of this work is to provide an ease of learning for students by offering a tool that would help access course materials from anywhere.
