However, there is a lack of knowledge on the effects of tourism on sustainable development in these countries. This research aims to fill this gap by analyzing the short-run and long-run effects of international tourist arrivals on the three sustainable development pillars, i.e., economic, social, and environmental. GCC nations are putting a premium on the tourism sector to diversify their economies. However, in these countries, there is a lack of knowledge on the effects of tourism on sustainable development. The empirical investigation suggests the existence of significant long-run linkages between tourism and all sustainable development pillars. Moreover, the PMG-ARDL model shows mixed results regarding the impacts of tourism on sustainable development. First, tourism accelerates economic sustainability only in the short-run, while it promotes social sustainability, as represented by job creation, in the long-run. Furthermore, tourism deteriorates the ecological footprint in the short-run. However, it contributes to environmental sustainability in the long-run. Finally, the short-run country-specific analysis corroborates the previous results, suggesting that tourism improves economic sustainability but harms environmental sustainability in all countries. However, the effects of tourism on social sustainability reveal some short-term heterogeneity, as it boosts job creation in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait and reduces it in Oman and the United Arab Emirates. The findings of the present study have significant policy implications for achieving sustainable development goals in GCC. countries.","PeriodicalId":29751,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Tourism Management Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2024-07-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141815429","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study was cross-sectional. The data were collected through face-to-face interviews between November 1, 2023 and January 30, 2024 from individuals receiving services in thermal facilities in Samsun and Kütahya provinces. A questionnaire form consisting of 4 sections was used to collect the data. The form consisted of personal information, healthy living awareness, health perception and mental well-being. As a result of the study, 388 questionnaire forms were analyzed. 38.4% of the participants were between the ages of 60-69 and 57.5% were female. There was a statistically significant difference between age, marital status, chronic disease, health perception, healthy living awareness and mental well-being. The mean value of the health perception of the participants was X̄=2.86 before thermal and X̄=3.24 after thermal. A statistically significant, positive and strong relationship was found between healthy living awareness, mental well-being and health perception (r>0.500, p<0.01) as a result of correlation analysis. Multiple regression analysis revealed that health perception and healthy life awareness predicted mental well-being (p<0.01). The most important result of the study was that mental well-being increased as health perception and healthy life awareness increased. The other important result of the study is that the level of health perception, healthy life awareness and mental well-being decreases as age increases. In addition to healthy life awareness and mental well-being, those with chronic diseases had lower levels of health perception.","PeriodicalId":29751,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Tourism Management Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2024-07-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141815798","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Sustainable tourism policies, like responsible tourism, should be adopted by countries that see the significance of building tourism around pristine natural and cultural resources. This will help to pass on their values to future generations and ensure that they continue to generate economic benefits. It is important to determine the responsible tourism perceptions of tourist guides, who are important stakeholders in the tourism industry and are conscious of the protection of the natural environment in the tours they manage. In this context, it is aimed at determining whether tourist guides' perceptions of the quality of work life have an impact on their perceptions of responsible tourism. For this purpose, first a conceptual framework was developed, and then data from the study were collected from 405 tourist guides with face-to-face surveys that contained the Work-Related Quality of Life Scale (WRQoL) and the Scale of Responsible Tourism (SRT). The study’s data were analyzed with a statistical package program and discussed in terms of descriptive and inferential statistics. As a result of the analysis, it has been determined that there is a significant relationship between the perceptions of quality of work life and the perceptions of responsible tourism of tourist guides. In addition, with the regression analysis, it was seen that quality of work life perceptions positively affected the responsible tourism perceptions of tourist guides.","PeriodicalId":29751,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Tourism Management Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.7,"publicationDate":"2024-04-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140683162","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Dark tourism sites have received considerable attention as a growing phenomenon in the 21st century. Dark tourism is associated with death, disasters, and atrocities; and includes places such as murder sites, battlefields, cemeteries, and places where tragedies have taken place. The Gur-e-Amir Mausoleum in the Central Asian city of Samarkand in Uzbekistan was chosen as a dark tourism site. A convenience sample of 21 visitors, of which 10 were international travelers and 11 were from Central Asian countries, agreed to be individually interviewed using a qualitative methodology. The results found that a range of emotions were expressed during the visit, with the majority of visitors expressing positive emotions on a scale from good to great, which included feelings of contentment, astonishment, excitement, and admiration at the conclusion of their visit. For many of the local visitors of the Islamic faith, it also provided a religious experience that for, some included prayer and meditation.","PeriodicalId":29751,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Tourism Management Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.7,"publicationDate":"2024-04-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140741448","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These uncertainties have raised questions about how working conditions have evolved and may continue to change in the future. This phenomenon has not only had a widespread impact on the travel industry, but it has also extended its influence to the education sector, consequently affecting numerous other sectors in the broader economy. Within this context, the role of departments such as Human Resources (HR) has gained increasing prominence. These departments are entrusted with the crucial responsibility of monitoring workplace standards, particularly in terms of compliance with hygiene regulations and health procedures. The research was conducted in the accommodation service sector of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), encompassing businesses operating in various regions. A sample size of 20 was selected, with data collected from five different facilities situated across the Northern part of the island. This research seeks to shed light on the evolving landscape of human resources management practices in response to the transformative changes brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. To achieve this objective, a qualitative research approach was employed. Oral interviews with business executives supplemented this strategy, giving the research findings more depth and context. The culmination of this study is presented in the final section, encapsulating the results and their implications. This research contributes to the ongoing discourse surrounding the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on human resources, shedding light on the evolving landscape of work in the tourism sector.","PeriodicalId":29751,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Tourism Management Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.7,"publicationDate":"2024-01-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139535127","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Quantitative research was carried out, having been used as data collection technique, a survey with the supplier companies of the Federal University of Goias - Brazil in 2020. The interpretation of strategic responses to the shock caused by the pandemic in the light of the behavioral theory of firm allowed to conclude that the concept of organizational slack is useful for understanding the associations found between the effects of the pandemic on companies and the strategic answers. By performing a multiple correspondence analysis, it was possible to verify the formation of three distinct groups involving categories of pandemic effects and strategic responses of companies. The association between the negative effects of the pandemic and strategic response of retrenchment can be interpreted as the search for a solution to a deterioration of the organizational slack. The association between the positive effects of the pandemic and the strategic response to innovation illustrates the role played by the organizational slack, allowing flexibility in the face of uncertainty.","PeriodicalId":29751,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Tourism Management Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136105597","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To further understand operational performance, three measures including on-time delivery, project quality and cost minimization where used. This study was conducted in a non-contrived setting and the quasi-experimental research design method was adopted. A questionnaire was distributed to 121 study elements made up of managers and supervisors of eight selected construction firms with operational/regional offices in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. The retrieved and valid copies of the questionnaire were analyzed with the aid of the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The findings indicated that operational performance of construction companies in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria as measured by on-time delivery, project quality and cost minimization is highly dependent on how engaged stakeholders of such a project are. Such engagement leads to high project quality, timely delivery of projects as well as cost reduction as stakeholders would have better understanding of the firm’s operations. It is then concluded that stakeholder engagement is key to project success for construction companies operating in the Niger Delta, specifically Rivers State. Hence, managers and supervisors must deliberately ensure that project stakeholders properly engaged all through the various stages of the project.","PeriodicalId":29751,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Tourism Management Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136317487","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, competition between destinations has increased, and many new destinations have begun to be offered to tourists. This situation has caused the decision-making processes of tourists to become more complex. Because consumption preference decisions are affected by emotional as well as rational factors. Many factors play a role in tourists' destination choices and purchasing decisions. When we consider countries as destinations, country personalities can also influence the destination choice of tourists. From this point of view, it is aimed at determining whether the country’s personality as perceived by tourists visiting Turkey has an effect on their destination choice and satisfaction. It is known that a positive perception of country personality has a significant effect on consumers' destination choice and, accordingly, their satisfaction with the destination. In this context, first a conceptual framework was created, and then data were collected through face-to-face and online surveys with tourists. In the research, 395 of the questionnaires applied to foreign tourists visiting Turkey were evaluated. The data obtained in the study were analyzed with the SPSS statistical package program and discussed in terms of descriptive and inferential statistics. As a result of the analysis, it has been determined that there is a significant relationship between the country personality's destination choice and satisfaction. In addition, with the regression analysis, it was seen that the personality of the country positively affected both the destination choice decisions and satisfaction perceptions of the tourists.","PeriodicalId":29751,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Tourism Management Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135087967","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An interpretive methodology was utilised in order to assist in understanding the level, intensity and impact leadership on the project. The scope for this research was the on-site supervisory team. The targeted population of interest was made up of 16 lower-managers/engineers located at one on-site main office during the construction phase of a Dam project. The research outcomes comprised of four 4 main-themes and the corresponding 17 sub-themes, with 259 discussion targets. The research outcome raises substantial issues associated with the toxic leadership of a WB Donor group and addresses these implications that affect the project construction internal/external stakeholder management. The project appears to be run by the WB Donor group through “Munchausen syndrome by proxy” where unprofessional dogma is the focus of the management operations. This is also indicated by the leveraging the management of one project, to provide finance for another project, which is reinforced through toxic leadership.","PeriodicalId":29751,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Tourism Management Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.7,"publicationDate":"2023-08-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75985098","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
