Numerical techniques such as the method of moments are used to solve highly complex mathematical expressions. The article shows that for simple structures a good compliance with measurement results can be achieved. However, one has to be aware of mismatches of about 20 dB /spl mu/V/m in the specific frequency band, which seems to be caused by incorrect models used in the chosen analysis technique. One possible reason for these mismatches is analysed. The theoretical background is described and illustrated by real benchmarks. The first assumption for the reason of these mismatches is often the inaccuracy of modelling the digital and/or analog devices, but only small changes occur after modifying them. Moreover, it can be stated that in the case of fully theoretical examples, which could be solved for analytically, the compliance between the numerical and analytical solution is nearly perfect. Therefore, we conclude that the measurement environment causes the mismatches.","PeriodicalId":296175,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility","volume":"6 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-08-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124877605","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The transmission matrix of a multilayer composite panel, relating the tangential components of the electric and magetic fields at the input and output planes, is deduced by considering also the anisotropy of the material. Therefore, the obtained surface impedance of the composite slab is expressed in matrix form. The proposed formulation is implemented in a finite-difference scheme. Applications are carried out in order to investigate the influence of different parameters, such as panel composition and fiber orientation.","PeriodicalId":296175,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility","volume":"250 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-08-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121365261","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

If such lines are situated close to transmitting antennas or near metallic structures the inhomogeneity of the exciting field has to be considered carefully. Computing the coupling-in process, it is generally not possible to simply assume plane wave conditions. From well-known reasons cables should be fixed very close to metallic walls and structure parts respectively in order to keep their effective height as small as possible. In numerical models this leads to the requirement that surface areas underneath each line must be subdivided into very small patches, at least perpendicular to the line direction. From computational, physical, and CAD reasons it appears not to be practicable to include lines into the overall mutual electromagnetic interaction process in a numerical model, for example setting up the system matrix in a method of moment (MoM) simulation. It is shown that physically reliable results can be achieved if the output of a MoM field computation is combined with the transmission line (TL) method in a suitable manner.","PeriodicalId":296175,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility","volume":"38 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-08-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125873383","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper introduces a technique for using applying numeric modeling to immunity problems. Modeling can be used to simulate the effects of radiated immunity as well as radiated emissions. Second, models eliminate the 'try-it-and-see' approach to immunity problems of guessing at the source of an immunity mechanism and experimentally trying many possible solutions until an effective remedy is found. With modeling, solutions are not considered until the central mechanism of the problem is adequately understood. Once an adequate model is developed inspection of the RF current flows at the frequencies of primary interest is particularly instructive in this regard. Then using well known electromagnetic effects (such as reciprocity), modeling can be made much simpler, and effectively extend the usefulness of existing modeling tools.","PeriodicalId":296175,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-08-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121640276","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The radiated tests were performed in accordance with the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Standard J551/5. This standard specifically addresses the testing of electric vehicles for broadband radiated emissions. The experimental electric vehicle platform uses an electric converted 1993 Dodge Dakota pickup truck. The vehicle is powered by a Motorola designed AC controller which converts the DC power from twenty-four 12 VDC deep cycle lead acid batteries to three phase AC power. This vehicle is utilized as a semiconductor evaluation test vehicle with a particular emphasis on evaluating the performance of microprocessors in a harsh automotive environment. EMC tests were conducted which included radiated magnetic field and radiated electric field emissions from 9 kHz to 30 MHz. Additional tests were performed on the SAE J1850 multiplex communication bus to measure the induced voltage transients. The test results presented in this paper are for an experimental electric vehicle which has minimal EMC design features and are not to be construed as representative of commercially available electric vehicles.","PeriodicalId":296175,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-08-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114896450","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This work presents and applies a TEM-cell based method of testing two key aspects-quiescent current and memory integrity-of the radiative susceptibility of low-power microcontrollers. The units were exposed to radiated EM fields of 20 to 1000 V/m at various frequencies from 0.1 to 1000 MHz. Significant changes in quiescent current occurred only at field values above 70 V/m, which is a much larger ambient field than the microcontroller is expected to experience when used in personal portable electronics products. RAM was changed only after illumination by fields of greater than 275 V/m.","PeriodicalId":296175,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-08-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133004514","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The effectiveness of this test method is primarily determined by the field generation capability of the test set-up. In this paper, a \"flat biconical\" illuminator, constructed for these tests, is described. The illuminator is basically constructed of two sections, each formed in the shape of a triangle, somewhat resembling the profile of a biconical antenna. The dimensions of the illuminator, scaled to the HF band, were selected such that it is closely \"tuned\" to 10 MHz. This configuration was expected to provide sufficient bandwidth to the illuminator, ensuring little incident E-field variation over the entire test frequency range. The radiation characteristics of the illuminator as well as a comparison between its measured and computed characteristics are presented. From the data provided, it may be concluded that the proposed illuminator is a cost-effective, easy to construct and efficient illuminator for the HF band, for the purpose of LLSC assessment.","PeriodicalId":296175,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility","volume":"90 39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-08-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129878883","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These procedures allows the EMC engineer to quickly analyze reasonably complex coupling problems. The spreadsheet computational technique emphasizes how electromagnetic energy flows from the source or culprit to the receiver or victim. Each step in the computational process is represented by a relatively simple, easily understood coupling model. This technique frees the EMC engineer from computational housekeeping and allows attention to be focused on the physics of the situation.","PeriodicalId":296175,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-09-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129796134","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
