The 3r generation (3G) and wireless fidelity (WiFi) are the two main wireless technologies which access Internet using wireless devices. Some major cities in the U.S. have either deployed or have future plans to roll-out city-wide broadband wireless network using WiFi technology. Even if 3G and WiFi have different origins and features, they will become competing wireless Internet access services in the near future. In this paper, using a game theory, the authors build a competition model of 3G and WiFi and demonstrate which technology will have a better market position and what an optimal pricing strategy is through equilibrium analysis. The authors found that in the equilibrium analysis, WiFi could have a better market position in the future. On the other hand, by using a higher pricing strategy, the profit of 3G providers would be higher than that of WiFi providers. Finally, the municipal WiFi could be useful as a public Internet access method and prove to be competitive in this market with its attractive low pricing.","PeriodicalId":296096,"journal":{"name":"2007 Wireless Telecommunications Symposium","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130200503","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, securing the architecture is a great challenge because of the number of vulnerabilities introduced. EAP-AKA is the authentication solution adopted by the 3GPP to secure accesses to 3G-WLAN architectures. Two types of EAP-AKA authentication are available, full authentication and fast re-authentication. This paper presents a localized fast re-authentication protocol to substitute the standard fast re-authentication protocol. The proposed protocol achieves faster re- authentication by locally performing the authentication procedure. A new keying framework is introduced to minimize authentication delays during re-authentication and handover operations.","PeriodicalId":296096,"journal":{"name":"2007 Wireless Telecommunications Symposium","volume":"107 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131508970","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A from its original design, but an efficient approach is needed to support voice traffic over CDMA EVDO Rev. A for graceful migration from CDMA2000 1x to CDMA EVDO Rev. A as voice service revenue is still the dominant income source for cellular service providers. To understand the system design tradeoffs, we first investigate the traffic characteristics of EVRC-encoded real voice traces and we find that the correlation structure of voice traffic exhibits strong long-range dependence. We further observe that the burst length distribution of voice traffic is heavy-tailed. Traditional Markov-model could not accurately characterize the true nature of the voice traffic. In the major part of our study, we examine the tradeoff between the initial play out delay and voice quality for real voice traces over CDMA EVDO Rev. A. We also examine the tradeoff between voice quality and RF conditions, e.g., the location of mobiles and the number of mobiles in a sector, etc. Finally, we address the performance aspects of voice traffic over CDMA EVDO Rev. In a UWB-OFDM transceiver, resource efficient FFT/IFFT hardware is a necessity due to minimal silicon area and low power requirements. Resource requirements can be reduced by using finite precision arithmetic in the FFT/IFFT algorithms. However, this introduces round-off and overflow noise, resulting in a degradation in BER performance. To address this problem, the finite precision arithmetic and wordlengths should be optimally designed at every stage of the FFT/IFFT. In this paper, we first present a mixed-radix FFT/IFFT algorithm for a UWB-OFDM transceiver with low multiplicative complexity. A round-off noise propagation model is derived and used to determine the optimal wordlength of the outputs and twiddle factors at each stage. The performance of the resulting system is compared to that with infinite precision arithmetic.","PeriodicalId":296096,"journal":{"name":"2007 Wireless Telecommunications Symposium","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122064168","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

CETAR uses statistics of the energy consumed for each type of node activities to select a node which seldom plays a role of source node as a routing node. By preserving the energy of active source nodes, CETAR can prolong the life-span of target specific operations in the WSN in which targets are not precisely known at the deployment of the network. Simulation model shows that the geographical and energy aware routing (GEAR) with CETAR can send significantly more packets than GEAR without CETAR for both uniform and non-uniform traffic regardless of network size. Most importantly, the new metric proposed in this paper can be widely deployed to existing energy aware routing protocols.","PeriodicalId":296096,"journal":{"name":"2007 Wireless Telecommunications Symposium","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123571648","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

CDMA systems have been highly successful due to the huge increase in capacity offered compared to other technologies. An effective technique to further increase the capacity of time-varying wireless channels is the employment of adaptive rate transmissions. Here, the transmission rate, bandwidth and power can be adaptively adjusted depending upon the instantaneous channel conditions. In this project, we analyzed the rate identification technique in such multirate systems. In this paper, we focus on trust establishment in mobile wireless networks and introduce the idea of TrustRings. The concept of TrustRings facilitates the calculation of trust-values for nodes in mobiity networks based on an egocentric network model. Each node concentrates autonomously on the establishment of its own TrustRings by placing itself as the centric node in the middle of the network. Then, it starts building 3-dimensional spheres using the multiple of its own transmission range as the radius of each sphere. The innermost sphere is generated by exactly the transmission range of each node. By further iterating this process, the second sphere is created by using the doubled transmission range and so on. Furthermore, each node maintains a trust-value-database to store the initial-trust-value of other network participants, which results from positive and negative experiences with network participants only within the node's direct transmission range. After a node has located its communication partner in a specific TrustRing, the initial-trust-value offers the foundation for calculating the node's trust-values within a specific TrustRing. The main advantage of the proposed model is that it takes the characteristics of mobile networks, such as uncertainty of reliable communication, into account and provides the opportunity to deploy a sophisticated trust model.","PeriodicalId":296096,"journal":{"name":"2007 Wireless Telecommunications Symposium","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133722112","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
