In both cases, the goal is to prevent unauthorised copying of copyrighted material, by tracing at least one guilty user when illegal copies appear. The most well-known collusion-secure code is due to Boneh and Shaw (1995/98). In this paper we improve the decoding algorithm by using soft output from the inner decoder, and we show that this permits using significantly shorter codewords.","PeriodicalId":291012,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Information Theory Workshop, 2005.","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129206876","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We restrict ourselves to the class of lattice codes and formulate the joint detection and decoding problem as a closest lattice point search (CLPS). Here, a tree search framework for solving the CLPS is adopted. In our framework, the CLPS algorithm decomposes into preprocessing and tree search stages. The role of the preprocessing stage is to expose the tree structure in a form matched to the search stage. Here, it is argued that the minimum mean square error decision feedback (MMSE-DFE) frontend is instrumental for solving the joint detection and decoding problem in a single search stage. It is further shown that MMSE-DFE filtering allows for using lattice reduction methods to reduce complexity, at the expense of a marginal performance loss, and solving under-determined linear systems. For the search stage, we present a generic method, based on the branch and bound (BB) algorithm, and show that it encompasses all existing sphere decoders as special cases. The proposed generic algorithm further allows for an interesting classification of tree search decoders, sheds more light on the structural properties of all known sphere decoders, and inspires the design of more efficient decoders. In particular, an efficient decoding algorithm that resembles the well known Fano sequential decoder is identified. The excellent performance-complexity tradeoff achieved by the proposed MMSE-Fano decoder is established via simulation results and analytical arguments in several MIMO and ISI scenarios.","PeriodicalId":291012,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Information Theory Workshop, 2005.","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126284492","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In comparison with the traditional BLAST architecture, the proposed multirate DSTI system has more practical virtues while achieving near capacity performance for sufficiently large multiple antennas. The key findings of this paper are: (i) the derivation of the probability density functions of per-layer mutual informations, which can be used to estimate per-layer rates, and (ii) the design of multirate DSTI system using punctured turbo codes. Simulation results show significant gains in packet error-rate (PER) performances.","PeriodicalId":291012,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Information Theory Workshop, 2005.","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133889922","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The decoding complexity of BEAST is significantly reduced compared to the Viterbi algorithm. An analysis of the asymptotic BEAST decoding complexity verifies BEAST's high efficiency compared to other algorithms. The best of the obtained asymptotic upper bounds on the BEAST decoding complexity is better than previously known bounds for ML decoding in a wide range of code rates.","PeriodicalId":291012,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Information Theory Workshop, 2005.","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122249155","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We derive a closed form expression for the mutual information of single input single output Rayleigh fading channel when the input distribution is complex Gaussian. We compare the channel capacity and the mutual information attained with Gaussian input using the derived closed form expressions. Furthermore, we argue that the mutual information is bounded by the signal to noise ratio with the simulation results showing the sub optimality of Gaussian signalling in non-coherent Rayleigh fading channels.","PeriodicalId":291012,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Information Theory Workshop, 2005.","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126329488","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, it is concerned with the question of how maximum likelihood sequence estimation (MLSE), in the shape of the Viterbi algorithm (VA), can be utilized in the framework of turbo decoding. It is shown that the conventional VA, which is a soft-input hard-output decoder, can be used for iterative decoding of turbo codes. Moreover, it is demonstrated how the VA can be used for obtaining accurate BER estimation as well as an effective stopping criterion.","PeriodicalId":291012,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Information Theory Workshop, 2005.","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122885479","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The links connecting the nodes are supposed to be erasure where symbols are received correctly without any error, or lost. We consider that the nodes are not able to use any interference cancellation mechanism. The interference might be suppressed through using separated physical channel or thought a time-sharing mechanism. This model is realistic for many practical scenarios in the context of wireless networks. In previous works, the capacity region of broadcast erasure channels as well as the capacity of the single-sender relay channel (under degraded and non-degraded hypothesis) has been derived. This paper extends the previous results to the more general case of multi-relay channels. We derive the cut-set bound for a general (stationary ergodic) multi-relay erasure channel, and we show that it can be reached through a practical linear coding scheme based on MDS codes.","PeriodicalId":291012,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Information Theory Workshop, 2005.","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133506747","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We will show how it can be used both in analysis and in design of codes. The MI constellation will be of special interest in case of in-line bit interleaving, since it is then very useful in the design of the outer code.
