This article discusses the problem of uneven development of regions.\u0000Objectives. The article aims to analyze the methods of smoothing spatial polarization and develop an algorithm for assessing the balance of regional development.\u0000Methods. For the study, we used a comparative analysis, and the tabular and graphic visualization techniques.\u0000Results. The article finds that the processes of polarization are due to socio-economic inequality, and it presents an original methodology for assessing the balance of spatial development, developed on the basis of the cluster approach.\u0000Conclusions. At the State level, it is necessary to approve a unified methodology for assessing the balance of Russia's spatial development. When developing programmes for the development of regions, it is necessary to be guided by the concept of leveling spatial imbalances.

This article discusses the role of road infrastructure in the development of the economy and the issue of ensuring the interconnection of economic subsystems of the region.\u0000Objectives. The article aims to determine the degree of influence of the road infrastructure of the regions of Russia on economic subsystems.\u0000Methods. For the study, we used the virtual clustering method and a regression analysis.\u0000Results. The study outlines the spatial and functional configuration of the Russian regions distribution by intensity of road infrastructure service of economic subsystems. The relevant statistical indicators are correlated with the length of public roads of federal, regional or inter-municipal and local significance. Calculations help predict the increase in the intensity of service for almost all subsystems.\u0000Relevance. The practical application of the study results will contribute to the strengthening of strategic and operational management systems for the development of road infrastructure.
