It has a simple communication mechanism based on named contents instead of their physical locations. In NDN-based mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs), the participating nodes have limited resources. Interest message flooding is a key research issue in this area. Due to Interest message flooding, the participant nodes frequently take part in the forwarding process and die earlier because of limited remaining energy. In this study, by leverages the benefits of NDN paradigm, we have proposed a new scheme, named robust and efficient multipath Interest forwarding (REMIF) for NDN-based MANETs. Performance of the proposed REMIF scheme is investigated by using ndnSIM. The results show that proposed scheme performs better in terms of content download time and the total number of Interest messages injected in the network.","PeriodicalId":290227,"journal":{"name":"2016 9th IFIP Wireless and Mobile Networking Conference (WMNC)","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122579611","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Though SDN is considered to be a suitable candidate for various use cases in mobile networks, none of the work so far has discussed its advantages and actual realization for Train-to-Wayside Communication System (TWC). In this paper, for the first time, the architecture and use cases of SDN controlled mobile backhauling framework for TWC is proposed. We discuss how our proposed architecture can efficiently handle mobility management and also provide dynamic quality-of-service (QoS) for different services on board. As a first step, a software prototype is developed using industrial standard OpenDayLight SDN controller to have our architecture evaluated. Since the automotive sector is being considered to be an important driver for 5G network, our SDN based mobile backhauling solution can be positioned in 5G where SDN plays an important role.","PeriodicalId":290227,"journal":{"name":"2016 9th IFIP Wireless and Mobile Networking Conference (WMNC)","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131139382","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The common challenge in designing WSN applications comes from the specific constraints of sensors because of their limited physical resources such as weak computational capability, small memory capacity, and especially limited battery. In this paper, we consider sensor redundancy in WSN and we conduct an experimental study to better highlight the importance of its exploitation. We also implement OER `Optimization of Energy based on Redundancy', a protocol that exploits redundancy in order to save energy. Moreover, we extend OER by a fault tolerance mechanism. Through extensive simulations, we show how OER combined with FTMOer outperforms traditional routing protocols that do not exploit redundancy.","PeriodicalId":290227,"journal":{"name":"2016 9th IFIP Wireless and Mobile Networking Conference (WMNC)","volume":"342 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134289853","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

When AAL applications are provided through the Internet, it is possible to create new applications involving the concept of Internet of Things (IoT). The AAL-IoT applications can be used to event detection (such as fall detection or blood pressure) and send messages to an emergency service or a family member through the Internet. The event detection is frequently performed by sensor networks. However, these networks can present some difficulties to provide the high quality of service required for AAL-IoT applications. Thus, this paper proposes a new routing metric that considers information about the nodes and their connections, seeking the network performance enhancement for AAL-IoT. The proposed metric is an additive composition of information about link quality and nodes energy. The results obtained through simulation show that the proposed routing metric can increase the network performance to better meet the AAL-IoT requirements.","PeriodicalId":290227,"journal":{"name":"2016 9th IFIP Wireless and Mobile Networking Conference (WMNC)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125953682","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Beacon frames can be extended by adding additional information (so-called beacon stuffing) making it possible to deliver this information to mobile devices (smart-phones, tablets, etc. equipped with 802.11 interfaces) without the need for association with the local infrastructure. This feature can be used to support location-based information services (LBS) related for e.g. advertising local opportunities, temporary obstacles and traffic disturbances or emergency notifications. In this paper we discuss technical solutions that support LBS using 802.11 beacon stuffing. For a selected approach we present the design, implementation details and performance evaluation for Location-based Wi-Fi Services (LoWS) - a complete open source solution. LoWS supports an original, highly efficient way to encode information. The LoWS system can be integrated in an existent 802.11 infrastructure while the receiver application can be installed on commercial off-the-shelf Android devices. The LoWS system is modular with well-defined interfaces making it an attractive tool for modifications, changes and improvements.","PeriodicalId":290227,"journal":{"name":"2016 9th IFIP Wireless and Mobile Networking Conference (WMNC)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128055245","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our propose is to characterise buffer starvations for streaming video in the presence of bandwidth that varies over time. This variation of the bandwidth is caused due to the frequent changes of channel states and mobility. Specifically we develop an analytical framework to investigate Quality of user Experience (QoE) for streaming by considering a Markov Modulated Fluid Model (MMFM) that accurately approximates the nature of network traffic. We drive the close-form expressions for calculating the distribution of starvation as well as start-up delay using partial differential equations (PDEs) and solve them using the Laplace Transform. We illustrate the results with the cases of the two-state Markov Modulated Fluid Model that is commonly used in multimedia applications. We compare our analytical model with simulation results using ns-3 under various operating parameters. Finally, we apply our analysis results to optimize the objective quality of experience (QoE) of media streaming realizing the tradeoff among different metrics incorporating user preferences on buffering ratio, startup delay and perceived quality.","PeriodicalId":290227,"journal":{"name":"2016 9th IFIP Wireless and Mobile Networking Conference (WMNC)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128167609","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fuelled by recent advances in networking, communications, computation, software, and hardware technologies, IoT has stepped out of its infancy and is considered as the next breakthrough technology in transforming the Internet into a fully integrated Future Internet. Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are utilized by IoT to collect, exchange, and deliver data remotely leveraging the potential of IoT in practical applications and services. However, delivering data remotely might be threatened by various and serious security attacks. This work focuses on developing a visual-assisted tool for exposing security threats in IP-enabled WSNs. The proposed tool, called EyeSim, is a human-interactive visual-based anomaly detection system that is capable of monitoring and promptly alerting for the presence of wormhole links. In addition, it is capable of indicating the malicious nodes that form the wormhole link. EyeSim may expose adversaries by conducting cognitive network data analysis based on dynamic routing information. The efficacy of EyeSim is assessed in terms of detection accuracy. The simulation results show that EyeSim has the capabilities to accurately detect multiple wormhole attacks in real-time.","PeriodicalId":290227,"journal":{"name":"2016 9th IFIP Wireless and Mobile Networking Conference (WMNC)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126371254","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At the same time, evolution and standardization of Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) technologies made them an attractive solution for building of complex network systems. Moreover, growing maturity of WLAN standards such as IEEE 802.11 allows for introduction of WLAN architectures other than a classic point-to-multipoint structure. An interesting example of such architectures is described in IEEE 802.11s mesh extension to the popular WiFi standards family. It is a very comprehensive proposition, likely to provide advantages in both infrastructure access and ad-hoc setups. However, due to distinctive characteristics of wireless mesh networks, many network services designed to function in classic, cable-based Local Area Networks will perform inefficiently in such an environment. The paper presents a proposition of a cross-layer procedure integrating Multicast DNS name discovery, ARP address resolution and IEEE 802.11s mesh path discovery, which offers significant advantages compared to a standard deployment of these services in IEEE 802.11s wireless mesh environment.","PeriodicalId":290227,"journal":{"name":"2016 9th IFIP Wireless and Mobile Networking Conference (WMNC)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116404136","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
