Over the last five years, significant investments in this field have brought the term “Metaverse” back into discussions as a potential ideal for social interaction within virtual environments. This paper aims to contextualize the Metaverse and its potentialities by investigating its relation to new users from a UX (user experience) design perspective. This work aims to understand the pragmatic and hedonic aspects of user experience and information mediation of novice users during their first interaction with a Metaverse application. To achieve this, we selected six users and analyzed their first interactions within the popular digital platform called “VRchat”. For data analysis, we used a method inspired by Marc Hassenzahl’s AttrakDiff tool and investigated the interactions based on three main aspects: interactivity, immersion, and self-identification. As a result, we noticed a positive impression of virtual reality (VR) on user experience after immersion. We also observed some UI (user interface) solutions that are functional, and others that are not, in an immersive interface. Based on these findings, we propose some hypotheses for solution paths to enhance these three aspects of the Metaverse experience.","PeriodicalId":289306,"journal":{"name":"InfoDesign - Revista Brasileira de Design da Informação","volume":"44 33","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138995786","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Through accessibility affordances, developers and design teams can allow players with various needs (vision, hearing, motor, and cognitive) to use any given educational game to its fullest purpose while enjoying the experience, and educators can ensure all students engage in digital activities. Despite the recent increase in accessibility efforts, it can still be challenging for design teams to evaluate accessibility quality in digital educational games. Educational games have an extra layer that aims to promote learning of specific content, meaning its accessibility features have to allow learners to receive and process the content of information. This study proposes an applied and research-based rubric to discuss accessibility quality in educational games. The rubric is designed to support the design process with reflective guiding questions to address educational accessibility challenges.","PeriodicalId":289306,"journal":{"name":"InfoDesign - Revista Brasileira de Design da Informação","volume":"14 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138997972","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, data visualizations carry many hidden messages, and it is up to the designer to use visual elements wisely in order to foster a healthy interaction. When it comes to death, information becomes delicate, and it is important to consider the connections between form and meaning, as these can influence audience behavior. Seeking to better understand how data visualizations have dealt with such a topic, this article analyzes two data visualizations on the number of deaths by COVID-19 through the analytical lens of remediation. The Close Reading method was applied to map the elements of both visualizations and analyze how these can promote death awareness.","PeriodicalId":289306,"journal":{"name":"InfoDesign - Revista Brasileira de Design da Informação","volume":"11 20","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139000979","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the efficiency of information communication as its central focus, Information Design (ID) can be an important area in the construction of knowledge about digital media. This article presents a systematic review of the Brazilian scientific production of digital media through the look of Information Design to record the development of ID in the country since the first CIDI+CONGIC event in 2003. The review pointed to some prominent themes in these decades, such as infographics and interfaces used for science and education. It also revealed some universities with an emphasis on the type of scientific production investigated. In addition, some difficulties were noticed at the conception of a registry of Brazilian science due to the change in terminologies and the evolution of theoretical approaches over time.","PeriodicalId":289306,"journal":{"name":"InfoDesign - Revista Brasileira de Design da Informação","volume":"351 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138996795","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study describes the development of a method to evaluate children’s and mediators’ experience while reading digital books on mobile interaction devices (MIDs). We reviewed and extended a set of metrics to assess the readers’ experience through ludic approaches and data-gathering methods. Building on previous research we extended the Multimodal Analysis model. The method was validated through empirical tests with 6 dyads of parent-child involved in joint reading in a total of 18 sessions. The results corroborate the effectiveness of the method informing the design and development of children’s books for MIDs.","PeriodicalId":289306,"journal":{"name":"InfoDesign - Revista Brasileira de Design da Informação","volume":"338 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138996592","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
