The existing and commercially available sensors are strongly affected by the surface reflectance of the furniture in the rooms. However the proposed sensor, with its logic circuit, ensures daylight dimming not affected by the highly reflective furniture. This paper presents the principle of the sensor's operation supported by numerical results obtained from lighting design software DIALux. The logic process performed in the microcontroller is also explained. Finally results from testing of a prototype are discussed and compared to the action of a commercially available sensor. It is concluded that the newly proposed sensor offers very good stability of the dimming function and it is not affected by the highly reflective objects and furniture introduced to the room.","PeriodicalId":289209,"journal":{"name":"2017 Eleventh International Conference on Sensing Technology (ICST)","volume":"103 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124570112","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Inspection methods for these materials must offer reliable information to enable a thorough assessment of the structural integrity of the aircraft. Non-destructive testing methods NDT are at the forefront of these techniques, where the associated sensors have to offer reliable data, based on flexible, non-contact and low cost equipament. The paper presents an eddy currents based NDT technique that enables the depiction of 1D and 2D flaws in carbon fibre reinforced polymer CFRP, where the associated electronic circuit block is based on a Wheatstone bridge for signal acquisition and processing purposes.","PeriodicalId":289209,"journal":{"name":"2017 Eleventh International Conference on Sensing Technology (ICST)","volume":"409 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133645148","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Accurate estimation of lung volume, as well as preservation of calibration over the period of wear, are required for such a system. In this paper, the preservation of calibration of a Respiratory Inductive Plethysmograph (RIP) in a 24-hour period was evaluated. Attachment options, such as an RIP belt held in place by tension (belt), RIP belt held in place by adhesive (belt+adhesive), and RIP belt sewn into a T-shirt (belt+shirt) were studied and compared using data collected from three subjects performing usual daily activities. An 800 ml bag was used as the gold standard for evaluation. The average volume obtained for the belt, belt+adhesive, and belt+shirt options were 0.89+0.28 L, 1.02+0.27 L, and 0.79+0.05 L, respectively. Additionally, comparing these against a reference volume of 800 ml, the average RMSE was 0.24+0.05 L, 0.24+0.23 L, and 0.03+0.03 L, respectively. Results show that the RIP belt sewn into a T-shirt provides a better preservation of the calibration throughout the 24-hour period.","PeriodicalId":289209,"journal":{"name":"2017 Eleventh International Conference on Sensing Technology (ICST)","volume":"105 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128153878","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The insensitivity is achieved by the conversion mechanism itself. It is a combination of a SC relaxation oscillator and an integrating type analog-to-digital converter whose integration time is made an integer multiple of the time period, Tintr, of the interfering signal. Although in a typical dual-slope converter, the integration time can be set as a suitable multiple of Tintr, the deintegration time is a function of the measurand. Thus, the extent of interference rejection that can be achieved, using such converters, is limited. The SC relaxation oscillator in the proposed CDC is operated for a fixed duration to make a measurement. This duration is set as a multiple of the Tintr. In this scheme, the final output is proportional to the number of transitions in the output of the SC relaxation oscillator which is directly proportional to the value of the sensor capacitance and has negligible sensitivity to the presence of the interference signal. The proposed scheme has been realized and tested using a SPICE tool. The non-linearity of the scheme is found to be less than 0.1% for a sensor capacitance, varied from 15 pF to 25 pF. The study conducted, to evaluate the effect of coupled interference from a distribution power line, showed that the sensitivity of the output to the interference is negligible for a large range. This paper also proposes a method to further increase this range and to improve the resolution of the proposed conversion method. The proposed converter is suitable for capacitive sensors that are used in the consumer applications.","PeriodicalId":289209,"journal":{"name":"2017 Eleventh International Conference on Sensing Technology (ICST)","volume":"315 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132155322","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An interdigital sensor jointly with Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) was used to study the resistive and capacitive properties of samples. Molecular Imprinted Polymers (MIPs) containing recognition sites for CTX-1 molecules were synthesized. The sensor was coated with the prepared MIPs to increase the sensitivity of the sensor to CTX-1. Different known concentration samples were tested and the sensitivity curve was plotted. The Nyquist fitted Curve and its equivalent Randle's circuit was estimated using a complex non-linear least square method (CNLS). The initial results are promising for further development of an inexpensive and portable device for early detection of bone turnover, so therapy can be started earlier.","PeriodicalId":289209,"journal":{"name":"2017 Eleventh International Conference on Sensing Technology (ICST)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130425823","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The nano-grating structure assisted MSM-PDs are suitable candidate for various applications, such as faster optical fibre communications, high-speed chip-to-chip interconnects, sensor networks and high-speed sampling. For this modelling, finite difference time domain (FDTD) simulation tool is used to simulate and calculate the light absorption enhancement factor (LAEF) of nano-structured MSM-PDs. In this research, various nano-grating shapes are used, such as, hyperbolic, trapezoidal, triangular and rectangular. Based on simulation results, we have compared the LAEF of nano-grating shape dependent MSM-PDs. In a particular case of simulation, rectangular shaped nano-grating structure MSM-PDs achieved about 12-times higher LAEF than the conventional MSM-PDs.","PeriodicalId":289209,"journal":{"name":"2017 Eleventh International Conference on Sensing Technology (ICST)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131715864","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

All these processes consumes energy. The level of energy consumption is higher in transmitting stage as compared to sensing, collecting and processing the data. The requirement of transmission power is directly depends on the distance between the sender and receiver nodes. In this paper, a comparative network life time analysis is done in between the Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy (LEACH) and its variant protocol LEACH-Two Level Cluster Head (LEACH-TLCH) protocol on the basis of energy consumption, residual energy and dead nodes. In this paper Tertiary Head-Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy (TH-LEACH), a new energy efficient routing protocol is also proposed. This proposed protocol improves the behavior in terms of number of dead nodes and total energy consumption in the network hence, optimizing network lifetime.","PeriodicalId":289209,"journal":{"name":"2017 Eleventh International Conference on Sensing Technology (ICST)","volume":"620 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132636973","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
