The data analysis technique used is qualitative descriptive analysis from 10 data on the title Jokowi speech on YouTube and obtained from the observation method. In its disclosure, five types of semantic meaning have been found, namely conceptual meaning, connotative meaning, social meaning, effective meaning and thematic meaning. The type of meaning that is often found is conceptual meaning (38.20%). To follow the flow in a speech script, we can analyze the semantic meaning in it. A speech is a formal presentation given to the audience. A speaker can deliver a good speech as long as the speaker focuses on his goal and tries to convey the goal in the minds of the audience. But sometimes the audience cannot understand what the speaker is saying. In this case, semantic meaning and speech are important things to be researched and studied in depth when applied to social linguistics.","PeriodicalId":287111,"journal":{"name":"PRAGMATICA : Journal of Linguistics and Literature","volume":" 79","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139207264","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study employs qualitative research methods to analyze the language variations and unconventional vocabulary present in the music text. By observing and recording the lyrics of several Black Eyed Peas songs, the researcher examines how slang contributes to the appeal and relatability of the group's music. Sociolinguistic slang is seen as a form of informal language that develops within specific social groups, often serving as a means of social identification and solidarity. The study reveals that the Black Eyed Peas incorporate slang to establish a contemporary and informal flavor in their songs, facilitating a connection with their audience. Lexical cohesion is one of the most important tools for bringing text together. Lexical cohesion is grouped into five types. Due to the large number of types, research on lexical cohesion needs to be carried out and the problems to be studied are: the types and uses of the most common types found in Donald Trump's campaign speeches. The theory used is the theory of lexical cohesion types taken from Cohesion in English by Halliday and Hassan (1976). This study uses four of Donald Trump's speeches as data sources. Data collection is carried out in the form of library research, which searches for and downloads data sources and then reads the relevant data included in it. All data is grouped into the appropriate type group. The data that has been collected is analyzed descriptively and frequency. The results of the study show that five types of lexical cohesion are found in Donald Trump's campaign speeches. The five types of lexical cohesion found are repetition, synonym, superordinate, general words, and collocation. The mostly type of lexical cohesion found is repetition.","PeriodicalId":287111,"journal":{"name":"PRAGMATICA : Journal of Linguistics and Literature","volume":"2018 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122420303","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
