The Dutch Drug Policy (DDP) model combines both leniency and strict laws whereas the Indian Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act) went from being a stringent policy in the past to a more flexible one lenient policy in recent years. The objective of the current review was to explore the history of the development of the Netherlands and India’s drug regulating policies, followed by the analysis of the policies using the Walt and Gilson health policy triangle. Methods: Official government documents and relevant articles on the DDP and NDPS act were identified for policy analysis. Analysis of the policies showed the effectiveness of the DDP model in controlling the drug problems in the Netherlands in some instances. Results : The results of the analysis also highlight some gaps in the Indian NDPS act. Based on the analysis of the two policies, the review explores the possibilities of implementing similar policy measures adopted under the DDP in the Indian NDPS Act for future reforms. However, the review acknowledges the disparity in culture and political system in the two countries and hence suggests deliberation of the policy measures implemented under the DDP before considering their implementation under the Indian NDPS Act. Conclusion: The review aimed the direction of future research towards generating more evidence on contextual factors unique to the Dutch and Indian societies and prevailing circumstances arising due to modern-day drug problems for a recommendation of evidence-based policy reforms.","PeriodicalId":286756,"journal":{"name":"Manipal Journal of Nursing and Health Sciences","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133145298","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Though the causes are multiple, maternal factors of low birth weight are significant. A large number of infant deaths can be prevented if these factors are identified early, and prompt management of low-birth-weight babies will save a life. The objective of this study is to identify the maternal factors associated with low birth weight in newborns among postnatal mothers. Method : An exploratory research design was adopted to assess the maternal factors associated with low birth weight in newborns. Non-probability convenience sampling technique was used to recruit 79 mothers of babies whose birth weight is less than 2,500 gm at 37 weeks’ gestation admitted to a tertiary care hospital. A checklist was used to identify maternal factors contributing to low birth weight and data analysis was done by descriptive statistics. Result : The maternal factors associated with low birth weight in this study were found to be mothers’ weight < 45 kg (64.6%), height < 146 cm (53.2%), psychological stress during pregnancy (84.8%), consumption of excess junk food during pregnancy (64.6%), family history of low-birth-weight babies (50.6%) and haemoglobin level less than 12 gm/dL during pregnancy period (68.4%). Conclusion: There are significant preventable maternal factors associated with low birth weight in newborns. Health professionals should create awareness among pregnant women so that these factors could be addressed at the earliest.","PeriodicalId":286756,"journal":{"name":"Manipal Journal of Nursing and Health Sciences","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124906854","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The current pandemic situation of Coronavirus Disease 19 (COVID-19) infection has further hiked the burden of cardiovascular problems. Since India has a large number of cases with cardiovascular problems the interlink between the COVID-19 infection and CVDs has greatly challenged the field of medicine. The interaction between the drugs used in the management of COVID infection and cardiovascular problems is another major area of concern. With the variant nature of the Coronavirus, cases have surged leading to increased mortality and one of the major causes for mortality is cardiovascular complications. This article aims to reflect on the effect of cardiovascular morbidity on COVID-19 infection and the cardiovascular outcome of COVID-19 positive patients in India. The relevant articles for the review were searched using the three databases: CINHAL, Scopus, and PubMed and the search was limited to the studies conducted from January 2020 till May 2021. The review highlighted that Diabetes and Hypertension were the most common comorbidity and were the major contributing factors for the mortality among patients diagnosed with COVID-19 in India.","PeriodicalId":286756,"journal":{"name":"Manipal Journal of Nursing and Health Sciences","volume":"409 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115914922","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
